I don't know if the makers really planned it that way, but I felt Bose family was presented as the ideal family whereas Dixit family was meant to be a dysfunctional one. And the mothers from both the houses were meant to be so opposite of each other to establish that stark contrast. Even Dadi's support towards Asha was highlighted only to point out how atrocious a mother in law Ishwari was.

I think the first part of Season 1, especially the first 150 episodes were done very well.. the contrast between the families was shown beautifully. The Bose family, open and non judgemental, loving in a fun and easy way, a family that could take a joke. The Dixit family loving but took each other and the rest of the world very seriously. This was understandable due to their severe circumstances, where the young boy had to grow up suddenly and be the partner for a widowed mother with 4 kids and no proper job or education.

I think as much Ishwari was manipulative and weird, I loved the way she was characterized and one could sympathize with her emotions, understand her over-attachment to her son, her insecurity was shown excellently, where she herself didn't understand why she was feeling so low and depressed. Ishwari's layers and complexities made her stand out so nicely in those episodes.

I couldn't understand for the life of me why he couldn't just bring her. Would anyone have said anything , no. There was no reason why he was so hesitant.

Asha I think also was frustrating because I did not understand why she was so friendly with Dev post leap. I mean am sorry this man slapped your husband, threw you out of your house, didn't check up once after throwing you out , and also treated your daughter terribly.

I would understand if she was indifferent because she didn't wanna hold on to grudges but why was she so supportive of the relationship. I would'nt have been. Bijoy made sense. He I think was definitely right.

Oh and the thing that frustrated me, when Dev screamed at bijoy claiming he gave Sona wrong shiksha. His mother was ready to compromise and bijoy didn't support their relationship. Sona stood up to him and asha stopped him. Uh why , explain to me why she cares more about Dev than her husband's feelings.

P.s I love this place. Thank god I discovered it. I had all these thoughts yet I couldn't share them with anyone before

Oh my god THIS!!! I don't understand first of all how his family even planned a surprise party for him without even bothering to inform his wife. Sure Ishwari had her own problems, but what about Nikki, Riya, Mamaji? Nobody even cared that she wasn't there.

In my opinion, Dev's *worst* shade was during the Mission Baby Dixit track. It was so gross! Sona was so uncomfortable and obviously so. He kept continuously dismissing her very valid concerns like "theek hai na, don't wear the dress", "theek hai na, we'll change the room". All he needed was to have one conversation with Sonakshi, validate her concerns, tell his mom not to keep calling.

Even that Simla sex scene seemed a little uncomfortable tbh. I know it was meant to be portrayed as ✨passion✨- but she was visibly resisting, in tears, was fighting with him and he just kisses her out of nowhere. The lack of consent was clear and the whole thing had a weirdly abusey vibe to me, even though it wasn't directed that way necessarily.

Dev's insensitive & if I may say so his "cowardly" behaviour as well as his family's behaviour on his birthday disturbed me a lot while watching the episode. I just couldn't believe he didn't even dare to open his mouth to tell his mother that Sona was waiting for him at the restaurant. It was also shocking that none of the Dixit family members even noticed that Sona was missing.from the celebration. It emphasized the fact that no one even considered her as a part of their family & that she was the outsider.

Asha was fortunate enough to have a very loving and supportive mother in law who took her side whenever Bijoy and she had an argument or fought with each other. Also inspite of their many arguments, Bijoy, was a very supportive & caring husband. Maybe that was the reason she never really understood what Sonakshi was going through at the Dixit house. She never knew what it felt like being treated like an outsider in your own home. She might have thought that with time, everything would get sorted out & Sonakshi would settle down at the Dixit house.sooner or later. And that could be the reason why she forgave Dev & Ishwari inspite of her daughter being treated badly & even after they humiliated her husband, Bijoy. Also it is possible that she might have felt that Sonakshi being a righteous kind of person would see everything in black & white & be quite rigid in taking a stand for what she believed to be the right. Like any other parent , she didn't want her daughter to face problems in her marriage hence always advised Sona to compromise & make adjustments.

Bijoy may have anger issues but he is a very protective & supportive father to Sonakshi. He always took pride in her achievements & gave her sound advice whenever Sona needed one. And he knew that as long as Ishwari controlled & manipulated Dev with her emotional blackmailing, Dev would never go against his mother's wishes & take a stand for Sona. And hence he was never in favour of their relationship.

In season 2 he had totally became an ideal husband & knew well how to support his wife & encourage her in her ambitions. Honestly, to me,that's where Dev's character arc reached & I would like to believe it stayed there.

I refuse to believe that this season 3 Dev is that same Dev. The whole season 3 doesn't make any sense to me & after it ends, I am going to pretend it never existed.😆

Love seasons 2 Dev. But I still think he didn't really redeem himself very much in season 1. Sona came back to him more in the urgent need of not wanting him to leave

Bold 1. I agree. It was so frustrating. And he somehow kept blaming her for feeling the way she did. Also gaslighting her like "sirf tumko aisa Lagta hai" bro why even then are you on this trip in the first place. He said things to sonakshi he never would've said to ishuwari.

I also hated that he mocked her motherhood at such a time and then never checked up on her. Bro what sort of person are you, she might as well be in full blown depression because of you and you don't enough to make sure she's alright. Even if Sona didn't have Soha Dev still would've left her at the time when she needed him the most.

Bold2. I don't necessarily think the consent was lacking it was more so angry sex. But that shouldn't have solved anything, how does that solve anything, why were they all lovey dovey and smiley after that. The issue at hand still was there.

I'm interesting in watching this show if Soha is not there with Dev and Sona! 🤢

Soha is very much a part of Dixit family else I dump this show.

Bold: Exactly!! He couldn't say that she is waiting for me? Okay, if he didn't want to reveal their night out plans, he could say, Sona is not here, let's wait. If he said that, no one would have been able to say, no we don't want to wait for her. That scene showed how much she was an outsider. As I had written in another post, she became Dev's wife but she she never became part of his family.

Bold 1: I think he was trying to smooth waters and justify all those things, since it was his MOTHER'S doing. Otherwise, he himself was uncomfortable and annoyed at all those preps.

Bold 2: Consent was there. It started off as angry sex, but turns to passion. They, for once, forget about all the drama.

What annoyed me about Shimla was the next morning. Sona just wanted to go home to Ishwari, forgetting all this intrusion!! Instead of addressing how she felt when Ish invaded their privacy, she just brushed it all away for one night of passion!

Nah not because of passion. She would have still behaved the same if that hadn't happened. Actually Sonakshi understood her stand with Ishwari & Dev very well. It pains my heart to even think of this, but the thing is Sonakshi was perfectly aware of how much power Ishwari held over Dev & what a spineless Maa Bhakt Dev was. She knew that if Ishwari was displeased with her Dev wouldn't think twice before chucking her out. She had learnt it the hard way that for Dev, all it mattered was his Maa & his Maa was smart enough to know this & use this as per her convenience. So, to solidify her position in the house, in Dev's life, Sonakshi was on a mission please Ishwari from day 1. Whatever may happen, she never risked displeasing Ishwari lest she threw another fit & Dev asked Sonakshi to leave, again. Dev did love Sonakshi but the problem was that his love wasn't strong enough for him to support her against Ishwari's wish. So Sonakshi tried her best to appease Ishwari at whatever cost. She knew Dev wouldn't support her so she thought winning over Ishwari was safer bet. If Ishwari slapped her on one cheek she would readily present her other cheek to please her irrespective of however bad she felt inside. That was her gameplan. The sad thing is, she was fighting a lost battle & even after doing all these, she still got thrown out. That was inevitable. She was just successful in postponing it for a bit which made her naively think that she could prevent it altogether but that just was not possible.😔

Bold: Totally she was!!! That halwa making disaster, or the bedsheet choice, before or after marriage. Sonakshi was very attuned to Ishwari's moods and whims. Sadly, nothing worked ☹
