I accept that our society is not as progressive as we wish to see but it's not as regressive as they're trying to portray. I can understand that ishwari coming from older generation where still people think that a boy as Ghar ka chirag and girl as paraya dhan want a boy. I have seen in-laws cribbing about not having grandson but I also saw couples taking stand for themselves before their family. It may be happening slowly but I am seeing that change in the present generation. We ourselves told our family that whether it's boy or girl, we will have only one kid. My in-laws still try to change my decision but we are firm about what we want and never given this decision making right to others, whether it's parents or in-laws.
Parents and in-laws gives their suggestions, sometimes interfere in their decision making process till some level when it comes to kids but I have not seen interference to this level where a mil is completely robbing the decision making power from a couple regarding their kid with her emotional blackmailing and OTT interference. Not allowing a husband and wife to take decision about their life and future and forcing her own decisions on them in what ever the way possible is little too much.
