Can the real Sona please stand up?

So lets forget Dev for a moment. Right after their first break up, I believed Dev has deep rooted abandonment issues and the dude needs a psychiatrist. His mom instead of talking him through it encouraged his behaviour cos it suited her purpose. And now he behaves the exact same way with Sona and am sure Suhana will get a taste of her crazy possessive papa too in the future. God bless her boyfriend/hubby😆 But thats not the point of my post. Positive, negative, amazing, pathetic, normal, crazy- whatever be the emotion, we know what Dev feels. We understand and see every single emotion of his especially post leap. Whether people approve or disapprove of his behaviour, we atleast know what he is going through and why he is behaving in a certain way and the difference of opinion boils down to different perspectives.

Now lets talk about Sonakshi. Some love her, some hate her, some cant stand her, some are neutral etc. etc. Which is not really an issue cos its the case with every fictional character. The biggest problem with Sonakshi is that no one really knows what she wants or what she is going through and everyone interprets her actions the way they deem fit. I dont know if the writers think so but I have to clarify- strength and independence does not equate to lack of emotions. You can get scared, react to situations and yet be super strong in life. Every time Sona reacts in a certain way without really expressing her emotion (cos the writers never give her even a monologue and she ends up mouthing stupid dialogues), this is how viewers interpret it-

Set 1- Oh she is very strong. Doesn't show her emotions and moves on unlike Dev who is over-emotional.
Set 2- Oh she is pathetic. Egoistic and doesn't even care for Dev while he is going crazy for her.
Set 3- Oh she has faced a lot in life and this is her defence mechanism. She doesn't want to become weak and dependent on Dev.
Set 4- Oh Sona is a robot and nothing affects her anymore cos she is super bahu.
Set 5- Please give her sexy costumes and give us romantic scenes 😆

So the real question is who is right? What exactly does Sona feel? Has she become an emotionless robot who doesn't give a damn or has she suffered too much to care? Only God knows the answer to this cos writers just dont bother explaining her POV. There is so much debate, discussion on Dev and the appropriateness of his actions and thoughts while every single debate on Sona is centred around people interpreting what she feels and defending/getting offended by it cos no one really knows what goes on in her head. There is a thin line between subtlety and lazy writing and the writers have long crossed that line. The last time there was clarity w.r.t. Sona and her thoughts was way back in January before the leap. Post leap, am yet to see an episode which throws light on her thought process. Forget right, wrong, pathetic, amazing- atleast show what she feels for god's sake. Right now, it looks like a one sided love story where the guy is way too invested to one bunch/ a superwoman who can handle anything and everything to another/ 50 Shades of Dev Dixit to the third bunch 😆 Can the real Sonakshi please stand up? Can we chuck subtlety and help poor viewers understand her thought process? Make her cry, shout or just talk. Its been almost 6 months since people have had different interpretations for her reactions. I still dont understand why they separated and randomly chose to re-unite 😛

Wonderful Post. Agree with you. I wish the writers see this and clarify the doubts reg. Sonakshi's thoughts. I feel even Erica also is not aware of what is happening with Sonakshi in the show. That is why often I see her face not portray any emotion at all . She may have been directed that way I think. There is no clarity reg Sonakshi where as Dev's emotions and feelings are crystal clear before us. Time to wake up writers.

Agree with both of you...CVs have not balanced the characters of Dev n Sona post leap. We get a lot of details abt how Dev is feeling n his monologues infact too much of it...but Sona's emotional front has been a completely ignored and closed chapter.
I understand last 7yrs has made her strong..n she doesnt want to become vulnerable n dependent again but there shud be some moments shown when she feel lonely n vulnerable. Like there was scene post Ronita's mother talk abt single mother, whr Sona is standing by the window, flashback, tears fall but she quickly wipes them out. It was such a subtle beautiful scene.

Now we dnt see anything frm emotional side...writing n also direction needs to see what a blunder they are making. They shud understand that being strong doesnt mean you can have an ocassional vulnerable moment.

If CVs wants ti explore her past with this current track then it seems logical coz that wud explain her pov. But sadly Sona's pov has always been ignored n same wud continue.

Agree with the points you have mentioned, unfortunately this is what happens when the makers cater to the twitter crowd where the focus is more on Sonakshi's costume & Dev's hairstyle than the actual storyline, where the people are more worried about Dev-Sonakshi's intimate romance & where the makers troll/ignore the people who try to give genuine feedback.

Just my POV, no offence.

There is only so much the actors can do. Sonakshi was an amazing character when this show started. Because she was strong yet sensitive. Right now I have no idea what goes on with her. Dev had this amazing scene when mami spiked his drink where he explained what he feels for Sonakshi. Compare that with Sona's abrupt realisation. Dev had some of the best dialogues where even those who hate him could feel sorry for his state. While Sona spoke shit like jaap and mantra 😕😆 Now it honestly looks like Dev is too invested and Sona is past caring. Its high time they show atleast one scene where we understand what she thinks or feels 😆

LOL. The writers of this show seem to think being emotional means you are emotional all the time and cry at the drop of a hat and being strong means nothing affects you and you are superhuman. Sona was not shaken even for a moment after the attack. Not even a split second while Dev was being hyper. You gotta be kidding me. I dont even mind if they want to show her as emotionless cos of her past struggles but please show it/spell it out to us so we dont break our heads over it 😆

You are absolutely right. As viewers we feel the myriad of emotions felt by Dev.This is one reason why everyone is always fascinated with Dev's character,be it positive or negative. But Sonakshi has become so one dimensional that as a viewer I have become disinterested in her character as an individual. Off late she seems to possess just one shade and that is being Ms Perfect to the Imperfect Dev.

While it is true that women are emotionally stronger than men it doesn't mean they are not vulnerable. We all have our limitations, that's what makes us imperfect and imperfect is the new perfect. Even superheroes have weaknesses. To the creators, please hit the brake on the Wonder Woman track.
