Hello All!I am sure Yesterday's episode has been emotionally draining and very confusing for you as well.
Had it been full of loud emotions or big words, It would have been easier to understand what's going on in their minds, but because it was unexpectedly calm, subtle . .It was much more painful for us to see.
I think this show is still able to deliver the maturity it promised in the initial promos.
When I saw first saw the episode, It hit me hard with the way Dev was so open to the idea for second marriage. We all have grown up seeing and hearing about how love alone is sufficient to live through the life. Personally too, I believe being faithful is everything in a relationship and with Dev being so okay with marrying a random XYZ girl specially after confessing in his subconscious state that he was miserable without her, it seemed unreal and hurtful.
But I saw the episode again in peace today and saw it in a slightly different light.
The episode begins with Sonakshi promising her father
"Humare beech kuch nahi hai. Aur I am sure kuch ho bhi nahi sakta"
Sonakshi has entirely resigned to fate, given up on this relationship. She promises Baba because she knows it is her fate anyway, even if staying away from him would kill her, she knows they are never going to come back together happily.
Then, when Bijoy says "Ab mai nahi ja raha"
She says, "Mai apko jaane bhi nahi deti"
Whatever she had to do, she would have done it to keep Bijoy happy.
Here, Dev is restless to talk to Sonakshi. If you notice, what triggered Dev going to meet her at night was GKB saying Ishwari will talk to Sonakshi about the wish herself and it might also include the Bose family. This made Dev worried because obviously Ishwari herself talking to Sona about this would make things worse between them. Before GKB said this, Dev was very clear in his monologue as well as before gkb that he can't give what his mom wants.
When they finally meet, Dev is very hesitant to initiate the conversation and naturally so. What was worth noticing is how when Sonakshi makes him sit on the bumper when he feels dizzy, they share an eye lock. . Which lasted somewhat longer with Dev looking more intently at her and Sona breaking the eye contact.
He doesn't begin directly by saying what Ishwari said. He starts it in third person, "Kisi ne mujhse aisa kuch pucha..."
Sonakshi wonders how he is so sure about getting an answer from her. How Dev replied to this by saying "Kisi ko chhodne ke liye usse jaan na bohot zaruri hota hai" reflectance he still lives in the guilt of not being good enough for her.
I believe Dev came to Sonakshi, less for assessing her reactions (can't be ruled out completely) but more to know whether their relationship still stands a chance and to genuinely share his feelings about the situation and more importantly, know how she perceives it all.
When Sonakshi asks what he replied when Ishwari suggested their reconciliation (which was so calm, she did not overreact by questioning the absurdity of this question), he replies
"Pehle to maine mana kar diya par muje samaj nahi aa raha tha mai kya bol raha hu"
He was indirectly trying to say that he wasn't completely hopeless about being back with her.
What changed Sona's expressions was when Dev said , "Maa ko lagta hai mai akela hu". She understands Ishwari is wishing for this, not because of their eternal love or any such thing but because she feels he is alone and miserable.
Thus, it is followed by a question
"Kya tumhe lagta hai tumhe life partner ki zarurat hai?"
Dev admits he feels lonely and then tells her about Ishwari's suggestion for some other girl.
As soon as he said that, the tyre slipped from Sonakshi's hand.. and hurt her. I think it beautifully symbolized how terribly hurt she was. She pulls back her hand and Dev goes to her to ask "If she was hurt"
This was Dev trying to read her eyes by seeing if this talk hurt her like it hurt him. Sona out on her facade back by saying she was okay, Dev witnessed this change and que stions "Or mujhe dard ho raha hai uska kya?"
I think nothing else could symbolize how Sona was hurt and still remained calm and then Dev could see it all and thus questioned her about his pain. Me (Dev) marrying someone else could be okay for you (Sona) but what about my own pain? Notice how she went behind the car to regain her composure and only then could she calmly explain to Dev how they will always keep fighting every next day. .And it would affect Soha.
I believe it was all shallow explanations to escape the other odds in their lives. Dev was disappointed as he lowered his head to agree with her.
She says , "it would be a milestone for us"
"Us??"
Dev is perplexed because he cannot understand how him marrying someone else would mean a progress in their relationship!
Isnt it so ironic that even when they are talking about making space for another one in their lives, they are evaluating it all by its effect on their relationship.
Sonakshi brings it all to a closure for him, ready to erase everything from the past, wouldn't that mean erasing all the good memories as well?
As ashwathy di's post also said Sonakshi talking about being friends with him , with a fresh new beginning would mean taking away all his rights as her ex, as her love.
Obviously, if Dev marries someone else, it would eliminate their chances of coming back forever, with zilch hopes, that would mean no complexities, no doubts, no holding back! Hence a new beginning.
I see this track parallel to Natasha track where Dev was absolutely clueless about what to do, he just was going with the flow, it kept making him restless but he did not understand, he kept going to Sona again and again for solace, for advices as a 'friend' but he didn't realise it until the last day that It was her love without which he could not do.
Right now, while Sona has resigned to fate, Dev like the previous Sona has started believing in the concept of Surreal Love. He knows his love for her is intact and that is sufficient for him. For pleasing the world, he can do whatever his mom wishes him to.
(Edit- not to forget, how he concluded by saying "Agar tum khush ho, to its good" and when Sonakshi said She told bana nothing will happen he asks "How can you be so sure?")
Also, don't you think Dev evaluating this option of marrying someone else is hai last, very futile, attempt to escape the everyday pain of not being with her. What Sona tried with R, trying to fill that emptiness by putting someone else in Deb's place.
We all know what that resulted in.
Would love to read your views because I honestly don't know if I made sense or not😆
