INDIAN INSTITUTE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES (IIAS)
There was an English assignment coming up, and students had to study various literary works of renowned authors. For this, they required various reference books. The teacher had advised them to get it issued from the library.
LIBRARY
Sonakshi (Placing the book 'Shakesperean Tragedy' on the table)- "Good morning Sir, I need to study this book for my assignment. Will you please issue it to me??"
Librararian- "Ofcourse, (taking out the library slip from the book) Here is it...but please return it after one week."
Sonakshi- "Sure Sir, Thank you" ( goes)
She had hardly taken a few steps when Dev arrived at the Issue Counter.
Dev: "Sir, aapne toh kaha tha ki Shakesperean Tragedy ki last copy library mein available hai...main pichle aadhe ghante se dhoondh raha hun and am unable to find it. Will you please help me?? Its really urgent"
Librarian: "Oh...Dev...Kya kaha tumne?? Shaksperean Tragedy?? Yeh book toh maine abhi uss ladki ko issue kar di" ( pointing towards Sonakshi)
Dev turned around and saw Sonakshi with the book in her hand. He was already pissed off at her and not getting the desired book added more to his frustation.
Dev: (Moving towards her) "Listen Ms. Sonakshi...topper of Quaterly Examinations...mujhe yeh book chahiye because I need to complete my English Assignment...So you better return the book and I will get it issued"
Sonakshi was again surprised by his rude behaviour. He was not even requesting her but ordering her...!! But still she maintained calm and said: "Mr Dev...I have already issued this book and for your kind information I too need to complete my assignment. So, am extremely sorry...I cant return this book to you"
Dev: "Listen...main library mein pehle aaya tha...So this book should be mine"
Sonakshi: "Yeh kaisa logic hai?? Maine yeh book pehle issue ki...therefore its mine (turning towards the Librarian) Sir, aap hi kuch boliye naa"
Librarian: "Arre tum donon ko yahi book chahiye aur woh bhi aaj??"
Both Dev and Sonakshi nodded their heads.
Librarian: "Toh tum donon half half karlo..."
Both in unision- "Kya??"
Librarian: "Mera matlab hai ki why don't you both study together and share the book??"
Dev was not at all pleased with the idea. He angrily said "Sir, main bohot hi shaant environment mein studies prefer karta hun...I am in no mood to study when DISTURBING ELEMENTS(eyeing Sonakshi) are around"
That was it. Sonakshi could not remain calm after this statement of his. Here she wanted to make a peaceful settlement and Dev was busy instigating her and worsening the situation. She retorted back angrily: "Aap samjhte kya hain apne aap ko?? Main koi marri nahiin ja rahi hun aapke saath book share karne ke liye...(passing the book to him) you better take this book. I will somehow manage. Choti choti baton mein main apna time waste nahiin karti hun"
Dev: "Toh aapko kya lagta hai...ki main manage nahiin kar sakta?? I will buy this book...so you better take it"
Sonakshi: "No...thanks...I will borrow it" ( and leaves the library angrily)
Librarian: "Tum donon bhi naa...chalo, ab toh woh chali gayi...Dev main yeh book tumhe issue kar deta hun..."
Dev: "Nahiin chahiye Sir..."( and he too leaves the library)
Librarian: "Ajeeb hain donon?? Pehle donon ko book chahiye thi...ab kisi ko bhi nahiin chahiye?? Yeh book main hi padh leta hun"
AFTER A WEEK
There was an election for choosing the Students Secretary. Both Dev and Sonakshi had volunteered their names for the same. As a result, even professors were confused on who would be elected. Because Dev was already the most popular boy of the college and now even Sonakshi had been gaining immense popularity due to her academic record and helpful nature.
AUDITORIUM
Bunty (shouting): "Vote for Dev Dixit !! Vote for Dev Dixit!! Ab aap sabke saamne the most eligible candidate aayenge...so please give a great round of applause for Dev Dixit!!"
Dev stepped on the stage and was welcomed with clappings of students. He confidently spoke: "Good morning my dear friends. Let me keep it short and crisp.Waise toh mujhe koi post hold karne ka koi shauk nahiin hai...kuch logon ki tarah jo attention gain karna chahte hain (looking towards Sonakshi) par mere friends ne mujhe force kiya...unhe lagta hai ki yeh responsibility mere alawa koi aur handle nahiin kar payega...aur ab jab maine volunteer kar hi diya hai...then I will make sure that I fulfill my duties responsibly...though I already know, you all will vote for me, but still am saying it...Please vote for me"
Saying this, he stepped down the stage and was met by another round of applause by his friends.
Nishant: "Yaar, kya bola hai tune...maza aa gaya"
Vicky: "Haan yaar,...ek dum mast speech thi"
Bunty: "Haan...aur yeh sunke toh Sonakshi apna naam zaroor withdraw kara legi"
Hearing his praises, Dev swelled with pride
On the otherhand, after hearing his speech, Niti was enraged. She whispered: "Sona...dekh toh isko...aisa speech kon deta hai?? Attitude toh bhar bhar ke bhara hai ussmein. He is so arrogant"
Sonakshi: "Niti...humme kya karna hai usse?? Bolne de usko jo bolna hai...am sure students will vote only for that candidate which they think is most deserving"
Now it was Sonakshi's turn to deliver her speech
She stepped on the stage and spoke: "Good morning my dear friends...Many of you might not know me as am a new student here. But the problems faced by students are same everywhere. So if you all would choose me as your Secretary, I would try my best to convey the student's demands to the management and get it fulfilled...And..."
After seeing the effect of her speech on the audience, Dev and his friends started getting worried. But Vicky came up with an idea. He was standing next to the sound system and tampered with the wire. As a result, the mike through which Sonakshi was speaking stopped working. But still, she increased the volume of her voice and continued her speech.
Then an idea striked into Bunty's mind. He went to Biology lab and came back with a box of cockroaches. He quitely opened the lid of the box and all the cockroaches flooded the floor of the auditorium. Everyone ran helter and skelter and within no time the auditorium was empty. Only Dev, Sonakshi and Bunty had remained in the auditorium. The boys had managed to spoil Sonakshi's speech.
Sonakshi stepped down the stage infuriated and walked towards Dev and said: "Ek choti si college election jeetne ke liye aap log aisi harkat kar sakte hain main soch bhi nahiin sakti thi. Aap college secretary banna chahte hain na shauk se baniye. I am not contesting for the post anymore. And am observing that ever since you came second in the Quaterly Examinations you have not been taking your defeat sportingly. Well mister, if its a challenge, then let it be a sporting one. Why go for hide and seek business??"
Saying so, she left the hall leaving Dev pondering over her words.
JLS HOSPITAL
Asha had finished her work and was all set to go back home. Before leaving, she knocked in the door of her senior, Dr. Diwakar.
Asha: "May I come in Sir??"
Dr. Diwakar: "Yes Asha come in...(glancing his watch) am so sorry...tumhaare working hours toh bohot pehle hi khatm ho gaye the...aur tumhe ab tak yahaan kaam karna pada"
Asha: "No problem Sir, apni duty karne mein jo satisfation milti hai uske liye kuch bhi...main isse burden nahiin manti...aur maine Sona ko bhi phone kar diya tha ki main aaj ghar late aayungi"
Dr.Diwakar: "Haan...Sona?? Kaisi hai woh?? Naye college mein sab kaisa chal raha hai?? I hope she is doing good"
Asha:" Sab kuch theek chal raha hai Sir. Woh apne college ke Quaterly Examinations mein first aayi hai..."
Dr.Diwakar: "Wow...I am so proud of her...sach mein Asha you are very lucky ki tumhe Sonakshi ki jaisi beti mili hai"
Asha just smiled and after sometime took his leave and returned home.
BOSE HOUSE
Asha and Sonakshi were having their dinner and Asha was looking at Sonakshi after every two minutes.
Asha: "Sona...kya baat hai aaj badi chup chup ho??"
Sonakshi: "Nahiin toh maa...aisa kuch nahiin hai"
Asha: "Accha yeh toh batao woh elections kab hain??"
Sonakshi: "Kabhi bhi ho...mujhe kya?? Maine apna naam withdraw kar liya (she said frowning)"
Asha was puzzled and asked: "Kyon??"
Sonakshi asked angrily: "Maa...aap yeh bataiye ki ladke aisa kyon sochte hain ki kisi ladki ko aage nahiin badhne dena chahiye?? Hum ladkiyan toh aisa nahiin sochti..."
Asha: "Nahiin...aisa nahiin hai...boys bhi girls ko respect dete hain and everyone beleives in the principle of equality"
Sonakshi gritted her teeth and replied: "Woh sab toh kehne ki baatein hain...aajkal sab politics mein lage rehte hain...isse harao, usse tang karo, usse pareshaan karo...huff"
Asha smiled and asked: "Lekin woh hai kaun jiski itni tareef ho rahi hai??"
Sonakshi said: "Hai mera ek classmate...Dev Dixit...bohot hi reputed lawyer ka beta hai and he is very egoistic" (She made faces while remembering him)
Asha smiled at her cute antics and continued eating her dinner.
DIXIT MANSION
Here Dev was lying on his bed after finishing his dinner but sleep was miles away from him. He was again and again thinking of the words uttered by Sonakshi. Initially, he was angry on her for talking to him in this manner but as the time passed and he became calm, he began to ponder over her words.
Dev(in his mind): "Sonakshi mujhse aise kaise baat kar sakti hai?? Usse pata nahiin hai ki main kaun hun...Lekin fir maine bhi toh usse pareshan kiya tha. If I would have been at her place, I would have also reacted in the same manner. Or maybe even worse...Lekin maine aisa uske saath kyon kiya?? Kyonki woh Quaterly Examinations mein first aayi?? Kyonki usne mujhe beat kiya?? Lekin uss mein uski kya galti hai?? Usne bribery deke top thode na kiya hai...she achieved everything with her intelligence and hardwork. Aur yeh toh acchi baat hai na...intelligence is always considered as a virtue aur main issi baat ke liye ussey punish kar raha tha?? Oh God!! I am so stupid...woh college mein nayi aayi thi, mujhe usse acche tareeke se baat karni chahiye thi, I should have been friendly and I was busy plotting against her. Uske baad bhi usne kuch nahiin kaha mujhe. She is a very nice girl. Mujhe usko sorry kehna hi padega..."
Thinking so, he stretched his hand to pick up his mobile which was kept on the side table but then realised that he didn't have her number.
Dev(in his mind): "Ahh...Dev you are truly an idiot...apni classmate ka number bhi nahiin hai tere paas...aur woh bhi itni intelligent classmate ka...koi baat nahiin kal college mein sorry bol dunga...aur number bhi le loonga"
Thinking this, he smiled and drifted to sleep.
