CHAPTER 3
INDIAN INSTITUTE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES (IIAS)
Next day,
Dev came to college early, which was a rare sight because he was one of those students who used to come only when last bell of the college had rung...
His friends were shocked to see him in college before time.
Bunty: "Yaar Dev tu itna jaldi kaise aa gaya aaj?? Sab theek hai na??"
Dev: "Haan...sab theek hai...woh main aaj (he was about to tell about his intention of apologising to Sonakshi but then decided against it) ah...woh aaj jaldi uth gaya isiliye socha ki college jaldi aa jaun..."
Vicky: "Oh...accha...chal fir cafetaria chalte hain..."
Dev: "Nahiin...college ke baahar hi wait karte hain naa...umm...waise tum logon ne Sonakshi ko dekha?? "
His friends looked at him as if they had seen a ghost. Nishant walked towards him and checked his forehead, "Dev, tu theek hai naa?? Kya ho gaya hai tujhe?? Badi ajeeb batein kar raha hai?? Aur tu Sonakshi ko dhoondh raha hai?? Sonakshi Bose ko??
Dev tried to say something, but was interrupted by Bunty: "Dev?? Tujhe kya hogaya hai?? Aaj fir tu usse pareshan karega kya?? Kal bhi usne tujhe itna sunaya...tujhe toh usse sorry kehna chahiye...aur tu hai ki aaj bhi usse pareshaan karne ka plan bana raha hai??"
Vicky and Nishant looked towards him and asked, "Kya?? Sonakshi ne Dev ko bahut kuch sunaya tha kya?? Aur ab bhi yeh usko pareshan karne wala hai?? Yaar...tu samjh ja naa..."
"Mujhe toh lagta hai ki bhagwaan ne tujhe dharti par bheja hi hai dusron ko pareshan karne ke liye aur yeh maatha(forehead) hume isliye diya hai taaki ispe tu kalank laga sake" Nishant said dramatically
Dev now had enough. Already he was very nervous as he was supposed to say SORRY for the first time in his life and on top of that his friends were irritating him. He took out his frustation in the form of anger, "Bass karo tum log!! Maine kab kaha ki main usse tang karne wala hun?? Main toh usse khud sorry kehne wala tha...aur tum teenon mujhe kya gyaan de raho ho?? Khud toh kal auditorium mein itna toofan machaya...aur mujhe blame kar rahe ho?? Ab bohot hua...hum log Sonakshi ko sorry kahenge aur fir yeh fight yahiin khatm...Samjhe??"
The three of them nodded embarassed.
Just then, Dev spotted Sonakshi coming towards the college gate. He gestured them to look towards her.
Dev(hurriedly): "Chalo...Sonakshi aa gayi...ab acche se hum usko sorry bol denge."
All of them went and blocked her way. Sonakshi was shocked being surrounded by four of them.
Bunty: "Hello Ms.Sonakshi...actually joh bhi kal hua uske liye we are very sorry...please hum logon ko maaf kardijiye"
Vicky and Nishant too nodded and said: "Haan...please...We are really very sorry...aage se hum aapko pareshaan nahiin karenge."
Sonakshi smiled and said "Its ok...I forgive you and am glad ki aap logon ko apni mistake realise hui...and its absolutely alright..."
They too smiled and went. Now only Dev and Sonakshi were standing face to face.
Dev: "Umm...woh...actually...mera matlab hai ki...I mean mujhe bhi wohi kehna tha jo unn log ne kaha. Aap mujhe maaf kardena. Ok?? Ab bye"
He hurriedly went from there leaving a confused Sonakshi. She was surprised looking at his behaviour and smiled to herself.
Here Dev was busy cursing himself, (in his mind) "Uff...main bhi naa...koi kaam theek se nahiin karta hun...ab Sonakshi mere baare mein kya soch rahi hogi?? Maine sorry toh aise bola jaise koi order de raha hun...wait a minute...maine sorry bola kab?? Ahh...main itna nervous kyon ho gaya tha?? Sorry kehna tha propose thode na karna tha...wait propose?? Sonakshi ko?? Main bhi kya kya sochta hun...chalo jo hua wo hua...ab woh mujhe forgive kar hi degi...intelligent girl hai"
Thinking so, he moved towards his classroom. Sonakshi was already there chatting with her friends. He looked towards her and smiled. Sonakshi acknowledged it and smiled back. He felt relieved to know that she had forgiven him.
Over the next few weeks, Dev and Sonakshi did not interact but would just smiled if they would bump into each other. However, Dev wanted to catch a glimpse of her every now and then. He had now started admiring her for her intelligence, hardwork and dedication.
Today, the results of Inter-Class essay competition was going to be declared. So, there was a lot of excitement and curiosity in the students to know its result.
After a while, the professor entered and announced he results. Only Dev and Sonakshi's essay's were selected in the top two with Sonakshi at the top scoring 5 more marks than Dev.
But this time, Dev accepted it and was proud of Sonakshi's achievement. However, his friends were amused looking at his changed behaviour.
Vicky: "Dev...aaj tu itna shaant kaise hai?? Quaterly Terminal ke result wale din toh tune poora college sar par utha liya tha..."
Dev: "Yaar Vicky, yeh rank wank toh chalta hi rehta hai...ab har baar toh main waise react thode na karunga??"
Bunty: "Matlab itni asaani se Sonakshi ne teri position le li aur tujhe koi fark nahiin pad raha?? "
Dev: "Position le li matlab?? Usne mujhse zyada mehnat kar ke li naa...free ki thodi mili hai?? (he said smilingly)"
His friends were getting shock over shock. To lighten the mood, Nishant said, "Yaar tum donon kyon itne pareshaan ho rahe ho?? Dev toh bilkul sad nahiin hai...pata hai kyon??"
Vicky, Bunty and even Dev looked in his direction for the answer.
Nishant: "Because when someone is in love he happily gives his everything to the person he loves. Dev ne bhi wohi kiya. Kyonki woh jaanta hai ki aage chal ke usko apni better half jo ki Sonakshi hai, uske saath sab kuch share karna padega" and broke into fits of laughter. Even Bunty and Vicky joined him and Dev turned red in embarassment.
"Kuch bhi bolte ho tum log...dimaag hi nahiin hai...sirf bekaar ki batein karni aati hain" said Dev angrily trying to stop his cheeks from turning red
Bunty tried to control and his laugh and said, "Theek hai Dev naraaz mat ho...hum toh bas aise hi bol rahe the. (teasing him) par ek baat bolun...sirf Sonakshi mein hi Mrs Dev Dixit banne ki qualities hain..."
Dev smacked his arm and said, "Chalo ab...sirf faltu ki batein karni hoti hai tum logon ko"
On the other hand, Sonakshi and her friends too were discussing about the results.
Tanu: "Aaj toh main bohot khush hun...hamari sona ne uss Dev Dixit ko hara diya!!"
Sonakshi: "Tanu...tu kya ek hi baat pr atki hui hai?? Aur maine essay ke liye mehnat Dev ko harane ke liye nahiin ki thi...mere paas itna time nahiin hai inn cheezon ke liye"
Elena: "Sona...tu bhi naa!! (teasing her)Kabhi kabhi ekdum Mrs Dev Dixit ki tarah behave karti hai...uske against kuch nahiin sunti hai...bata na chakkar kya hai?? "
Sonakshi was annoyed and said: "Koi chakkar nahiin hai, chakkar tere dimaag main hai"
She walked away annoyed. Here Dev was also coming from other direction disturbed and flushed by his friends's comments. He did have a minor crush on Sonakshi and the mere thought of her being Mrs Dev Dixit sent chills in his spine.
Both were lost in their thoughts and bumped into each other.
Sonakshi: "Ahh..."(rubbing her forehead)
Dev was startled and immediately looked up to see her.
Dev(coming forward): "Am sorry Sonakshi...mera dhyaan nahiin tha...aapko zyada chot toh nahiin lagi??"
Sonakshi looked towards him and said:" Its ok...zyada chot nahiin lagi hai"
Saying so, she bent down again to pick up her books which had fallen down.
Dev also sat and helped her in assembling her books. He finally handed over the books to her and their hands touched for a moment sending jitters to Dev. He didn't even want to leave her hand but Sonakshi pulled her hand away and said" Thank you so much for your help...I need to go the library...see you later"
Saying so, she went away. Dev's trance was broken only when she walked past him. He smiled and ruffled his hair. He was experiencing some unknown feelings but wasn't sure about which name should he give to them??
