First things first loved the episode. I thought it was very maturely handled.
When you play cards you play blind not knowing the opponents hand and yet you try and predict what might be. When you fold you actually get to see the opponent's hand and validate how you played.
When Dev and Sonakshi walked in into their marriage they walked in blind. Trying to guess the others moves, playing blind and hoping that they were right. Each laden with insecurity and fear of losing the other.
Yesterday what came out is them exposing their hand. I and loved how maturely it was handled.
1. Dev still respects the Boses. He called Bijoy Baba. If his daughter has given him a challenge to become like Bijoy and he has accepted. He is starting that with respecting his target, he hopes to become as good as or better.
2. Dev is still willing to move mountains to get the apple of his eye in his life. In this case Suhana and yet he is happy just knowing that she is around. He doesn't want to own her , possess her , brand her as a Dixit. He is happy to have Suhana Bose in his life and that's what matters.
3. Dev finally learning to become a man of his word. Dev mentioned to Sonakshi multiple times that he wouldn't take Suhana away from his mother and yet he faltered multiple times. Each time he promised and didn't fulfil nothing really was at stake. The stakes are high now. He will lose his daughter. He has no other choice but to become the man of his word.
4. Sonakshi drafting the contract came as a surprise to some but she did it only after Dev revealed that he snuck into Suhana's room. Dev sought permission only because Soha asked him to. It is unfair to let the child become the parent. Hence the onus had to be on Dev to become the parent to be responsible for his actions and face the consequences.
5. Hence the contract.
6. The scene of signing the contract revealed many things mainly that Sonakshi didn't want Dev to play blind anymore. She asked him to read the contract in fact she insisted.
7. I thought Terms of the contract were to the point and fair.
a. It was fair to say Dev wasn't a part of Soha's life as he didn't know about Soha .
b. Reason he didn't know about Soha was his own doing. .. And this point seems to have hit a nerve with most viewers. How was it Dev's doing? How is Dev responsible? Hear me out...
Dev let his mother interfere in their relationship and drive it. So Dev is responsible in that sense. i.e. again he didn't stand up to his mother and ask her to step back as far as he and Sona were concerned, Pre-leap that is.
Sonakshi looks at Dev and Ishwari as one team. She has no idea about the changes in Dev post leap. So she views them as a single entity. Geena pointed this out in her post after the Goons beating up Dev and Ishwari thanks Sona. Sonakshi was okay till Ishwari thanks her and then her mask comes back on.
Dev realized this.
c. It also showcased 2 things from Sonakshi's side
i. Sonakshi trusted Dev the father so she was trying to come in terms with Dev being a part of Suhana's life. Sonakshi didn't trust Dev the Son.
ii. Sonakshi also realizes Dev wouldn't sneak into Soha's room unless Ishwari would have egged him on. This is clearly obvious in the statement, you are not the man I married. The man standing in front of her was Ishwari's son.
For all those who think Sonakshi is like Ishwari... here is where Sonakshi is different. She is willing to share her daughter unlike Ishwari but she is not willing to lose her daughter which is only fair.
8. Dev signing the contract, heartbreaking as it was it exposed Sonakshi's vulnerabilities and for once both of them knew where they stood.
Bijoy - Saurav
Bijoy and Saurav argument was only the start. Bijoy not respecting Saurav and interfering in his kid's life was okay as long as Saurav didn't have to impress anyone. While he himself struggles to find his identity Bijoy dismissing him and his views is not going to go down lightly. What Ronita does or doesn't do is hardly important here? How Saurav would like to be seen and perceived is what will drive his actions and words going forward?
Why Contract? What happened to the Prenup?
Many will ask why a contract when the prenup exists. And here is where we as viewers faltered. We read in too much into the prenup. The prenup is what it is, A prenuptial agreement that merely controls the division of property or wealth and it obviously had to be signed before marriage. The prenup was never valid. All the ones knowing law will agree with me.
The prenup merely brought out the financial insecurities of Ishwari and a question on Sonakshi's self respect by being perceived as a gold digger and complete lack of trust on Dev by both . The document was signed but Sonakshi thought Dev didn't trust her with his wealth and Dev thought Sona didn't trust him for his word.
The prenup is done. It would not be valid in the court in case of a custody battle plus there were no witnesses and the signatures were taken fraudulently. The role the prenup had to play was simple. Expose the lack of trust between the 3.
Sonakshi's on Dev, Dev's on Sonakshi and Ishwari's on Dev and Sonakshi.
Now comes the contract and here is where the CVs played it very very smartly. There was a lawyer sitting. There were witnesses and Sonakshi insisted that Dev read the terms. Hence in case of any eventuality, the contract can be used, the prenup cannot.
I always believed that a signed document would put the final wedge in between Dev and Ishwari and always thought it would be the prenup.
When the time comes Dev will want custody and the prenup will expose he has no right on his daughter. There will be a final showdown between Dev and Ishwari. But the prenup by not being valid and Dev wouldn't really fight a custody battle , I wondered how things will proceed.
However, yesterday's episode made me realize that when the time comes, Ishwari will be the one to insist on the custody and the signed document will indeed bring a wedge between the mother and the son and that will be the contract where he knowing signed off his right of Suhana being Dixit. She is and always will be Bose.
For once, Dev's and Ishwari's happiness coincide i.e. Soha but Dev wants to be a part of her life while Ishwari wants to own her. When the time comes Dev Dixit will start with taking a stand for his daughter in front of his mother.
Sorry for the long post.. But I loved the episode. I thought the situation was brought out beautifully and maturely. The layers were peeled, the inner core exposed.
All in all, I would love to see is Dev teaching Ishwari unconditional love and how to be a good parent.
