I am judging a man's character based on standing up for whoever is being abused under his roof.
If a wife is abusing his mother and a man turns a blind eye, I will blame him equally if a mother is abusing his wife and he turns a blind eye. It's not the relationship, it's the mistreatment he needed to stand up against regardless of relationship.
Considering Dev previously dumped Sonakshi based on his mother's command and only returned to her again with his mother's permission, is Sonakshi's thought that if his family is happy, he will be happy a far-fetched conclusion to reach?
So Sonakshi reached the conclusion by connecting 2 + 2 and reached 4. She thought if his mother is happy, he will be happy.
Was that her fault since she was living with her husband in a home her husband paid for but where her mother-in-law left no stones unturned to make her feel like an outsider.
She did try to communicate it to Dev. She was stupid enough to ask for one place in his house where she can feel that her presence is noted. His room. He agreed to turn it into a jungle to please her.
What happened we all know. She brought a swing, Dev tripped over it despite of never tripping on anything at Bose house where the living room was the size of his bedroom with much more furniture. He went crying to his mother. She walked in her son's room and got it removed like it's her personal domain, showing Sonakshi her status in the house where her wish has no value. Funnily though, that swing is still in their garden and everyone is still using it and no one tripped over the swing again.
What do you think Dev would have done if Sonakshi had not wanted to live under his mother's thumb and said to him that she'd like to have her own household instead of his mother offering the same?
The complaint for Sonakshi was that she tried to be a good daughter-in-law. What if she didn't want to be a good daughter-in-law? What if she had behaved like Elena? Would Dev be willing to walk out for her honour like Vicky did?
Her fault was trying to change herself trying to make a space for herself in that house where she never could have made a space like Elena still doesn't despite according to Ishwari being an ideal Bahu for choosing their family instead of hers. Elena is still being manipulated and being used for their own gain.
Dev's fault was breaking his marriage vows. To stand by his wife, to protect his wife, to treat her with honour and dignity.
It's not the relationship type that needed defending. It's the turning blind eye to whatever was going on despite knowing everything that was his biggest failure. Had anyone treated his sister and/or God forbid his daughter, he won't take seconds to turn into another of the hated character in the show - Bijoy. This is the father who treated his son-in-law well, when he kept his daughter happy. But turned out to be their worst nightmare when they mistreated his daughter.
I wish to see Bijoy asking Dev if God forbid, Soha was treated by someone the way him and his family treated his daughter, what would Dev do? I'd like to hear Dev answer that. May be that's why, God gave him a daughter, not a son so that he understands what a daughter's father feels.
