Interesting topic. My 2 cents.

It is genetic to an extent, some people are expressive and some are not. It also depends on how you are brought up. If you are surrounded by loving parents and siblings who are very perceptive to your need, you seldom have the need to open up. Because they understand you so well.

After marriage, it is a new environment. The same girl gingerly takes her initial steps of opening up. If
she gets encouragement and support from her spouse and in-laws and an open atmosphere at her in-laws, it will not be long to open up completely.

Contrarily if you are made to feel as an outsider, your opinion sidelined in favor of in-laws opinion/decision, it will stifle the hesitant new member to a complete hush.

Since I am the permanent resident of the GM throne... a dear fellow closet GMer asked me to check with you all... why did Dev's phone fall out of his jeans while he was looking at his ex wife in her orange/red dress? Think think think

I do agree with you that the in-laws attitude matters, but it's also a question of the girl's nature. Not only was Sona slow to open up, she was also very sensitive to disapproval. This turned out to be a recipe for disaster when mixed with Dixit house, where it was never the general practice to give positive reinforcement or encourage better communication, even among the existing members. Sona felt like an outsider because she wasn't treated the way she was in her home, but she never really understood that nobody was treated that way in the Dixit house.

Elena is a good example, though the other extreme, of how things could go differently in the Dixit family for a girl with different expectations. Unlike Sona, Elena never had any issues expressing her feelings or her disapproval and as a result, she has lived a fairly content life these past seven years. I am not saying that either Sona or the Dixits were completely right or wrong, just that their expectations didn't jive, and Dev and Sona didn't identify that problem accurately enough.

Yes, Elena did not have much problem because

1) She is not sensitive like Sona. Elena is a selfish girl, who is bothered about herself. She gives two hoots about others and what they think of her. She is actually a perfect match for Dixit family! 😊

2) Vicky is not under his mom's spell. 😃 He supported Elena in front of his Mom giving Elena a power which Sona could never had.

First of all thank you every one for all the appreciation. But I would like to say I was able to shed my inhibitions because of you all, especially Deepa, Sam n DQ. Thank you guys.🤗

Wonderful analysis everyone. I just wanted to read and read and for it to not end. Shaavi, Sam n Deeps outstanding posts.👏

Yesterday's episode the dialogue by Jotin that Sona is best in playing different roles to perfection at the same time whereas Dev could play only single role at a time got me thinking. Didn't the break up happen because Sona refused to play any roles other than Bijoy's daughter? The moment Bijoy asked her to consider his insult above her marriage she just blindly followed him. She shut off Dev completely refusing to be his wife or even his friend. When she came back with the money and gave it to Ishwari indirectly asking her to acknowledge that she was wrong, Dev told her that you hurt my mother even though Sona refused to acknowledge it. But it was Bijoy's daughter speaking not Dev's wife. She didn't listen to anything he said that day. Now my doubt is did he ask Bijoy's daughter to get out? Because his wife would have never hurt him by hurting his mother. Was he asking his wife to appear and assert her rights as his wife and instead Bijoy's daughter who has had enough by that time left him? Is that why he is angry with Sona because Bijoy's daughter wanted to punish Ishwari's son? I don't know if I made sense.😲

I think u might be right geena. Even after all these years she put up her name plate as sonakshi bijoy bose nd insisted it is important for her which pushed dev to break it citing some lame excuse. Also i was watching some old episodes nd during her date with ritwik he screams U R MINE. This guy literally cannot see her associated with anyone not even by name

@geena ...awesum post again ..n i agree wid u ...for dev his wife left him right after that slap incident to never return back ...n dat day sonakshi was neither Sonakshi Dev Dixit as she wud not have returned d money nor Sonalshi Bose Dixit as sge wud have talked it out wid dev and returned money to him personally...she was Sonalshi Bijoy Bose who came there to nullify her father's insult by returning money to ishwari and it was bijoy's daughter who was asked to leave by dev and not his wife coz for him his wife had already left days back

@ jasw, but Sona was perfectly capable of understanding the equation between Dev and Ishwari. She had similar if not to the same extend, relationship with her father. Both were not willing to hurt their respective parents even at personal cost. Dev would never have fallen so deeply in love with a person like Elena. Sona understood him completely and even made him understand his mother when there was conflict of interest in Neha's case. Both Sona and Dev knew Ishwari was insecure and they acknowledged it subtly also. So she would have never expected him to openly support her and her family in front of his mother. That was the reason he felt so out of depth when she pulled out the rug from underneath him when she refused to lend him her usual understanding shoulder. Just my POV. Not intended to hurt anyone.
