the ssn2 so far has portrayed dev as one of the most complex characters i hv seen...the layers that this character carries i am hoping the writers will sensibly and logically peel them off one by one...
18th jan epi had one such scene which i was really waiting for and that is the scene between dev and ishwari...i was really tensed wat they wud show and i may end up saying to myself nothing has changed between them in the 7 years...but now i can see nothing is same between them...
needless to say it was a brilliantly written seen and shaheer carried it off with such panache that i am speechless to see an actor whom i did not notice before this show...i used to watch MB only for saurav raj jain (krishna)...
few things i wud like to mention about the scene...
first thing i noticed he walked into the room with his shoes on...i mean i never saw him barefoot but then he always remained on this side of the bed...for the first time i say him go to the other side of the bed where ishwari has his little temple...the arrogance was less toward god than toward ma's faith on god...sona once told dev that it doesnt matter that he does not trust on god but he shud at least trust ma's faith on god...dev that time listened to her and did the puja but today he showed little respect to ma's faith clearly stating he has lost his faith on the one person whom he once considered as bhagwaan...
the lopsided smile...this is the second thing i noticed...it was a smile that only had a disinterested care towards ma...no doubt the earlier dev is no more for whom a single day did not pass widout spending quality time wid ma...today he comes once or twice a week and meets ishwari just out of duty to inquire about her health...gone r those days wen he used to touch her feet everyday and if he forgot he used to call from office to apologize...today he came to ishwari's room and left widout a hug and needless to say widout touching her feet...her blessings hv gvn him enuf to carry a broken heart for 7 years...today he neither has the energy nor the inclination to touch her feet...
loved these lines...dev saying whereever he goes but he always returns to her...but there was no sincerity in his voice and ishwari noticed that and so said "ghar ana teri ichha honi chahiye majboori nahi"...and dev's expression after that clearly proved her right...no more he feels the urge to come here...
dev saying maan ki sunni chahiye...he says that ppl may think he is moving from one place to another aimlessly but ishwari is his dhruv tara who always shows him the right direction...however the next line proved how sarcastically he said those words...as he says it is because of her right direction that everything is so fine today...everyone's future is secured and so his responsibilities r over and so he can now lead life as he wants widout any pressure...
the sarcasm i felt was wen he said today everything is alrite because ishwari is there as her dhruv tara to show him the right direction...but is everything alrite...today the life that dev is leading is far from perfection...staying out of home for days...coming to office once in a while...roaming around on expensive bike and having relationship with random girls...this is the kind of life he is leading...dev is saying he has fulfilled all his responsibilities in the sense he has secured future of his family financially by gving vicky a 500 crore company, fulfilling mami's wishes of diamonds and all...and in this way he feels he has done all that he can do for his mom since for her he is simply someone who is to fulfill his responsibilities widout any care for own dreams and wishes...
hence for dev ishwari is the dhruv tara showing him the right direction walking on which he is now leading a loveless, aimless life...
he said that now he wants to live in is own way widout any pressure and added in the end "thik hai na ma"...making it clear to ma she can hv no objective to the kind of life he is leading...
and ishwari sensing his disconnection from all relationships agreed to watever he said knowing very well gvn a chance she wud never wish a life like the one that dev is leading now...
i loved this part wen ishwari lectured about how dev shud tell his wishes to the stars and today she does not know wat he has ever wished for...clearly today she blames the stars for dev's unfulfilled wishes and so she states that if he is happy only then she is happy...
the way ishwari is still in denial mode and not accepting any fault of her in the current state of dev's life and the way she said she is happy if he is happy dev's expression clearly stated that ishwari's fake words has no effect on him...dev's happiness never meant anything to her except when his happiness centered around her demands...
and the final part of the scene...let me mention here shaheer emoting with his eyes in this part is simply beyond any words and so i will not try to define such masterpiece of acting with my limited knowledge of adjectives...
as ishwari started the topic of sona how maybe she has moved on since she always has been a strong girl dev's 7 year old wound suddenly rips open as the pain which is still so raw begins to pour from his eyes...but he makes sure his mom cant see the pain for very simple reason that his pain and agony have never meant anything to ishwari...for ishwari wenever dev expressed any kind of pain she believed that it will go in a few days as if he has some fever which will get cured in a short time...dev's eyes also portrayed a subtle frustration toward his mom seeing how cool she is about sona's moving on while his life is in shatters because of this lady...
wen ishwari stated sona may hv got married by now dev decided to end her charade by putting up an act by himself as he stated "lekin humein kya farak padta hai"...and he put his arms around her clearly emphasizing that it is she who doesnt care about sona's moving on...as she touches her face he immediately ended the conversation showing little patience for her display of affection...
ishwari's complain has always been how dev has always hidden his feelings from her like wen he first fell in love with sona...like his continued love even after the first separation and so on...even today dev has no inclination to share his feelings with her...the loss of sona maybe a 7 year old event but for him the pain is as raw as if she has left him ystrdy...hwever dev smiles and casually says hume kya farak padta hai and then casually walks away carrying all the pain within himself...
dev's lifelong love and trust on ma is no more...but he has sacrificed his dreams, his life, his everything for this lady whom he worshiped once but today her presence in his life is like an obligation for which he has to return home once in a while...
ishwari always complained y he never shares his feelings with her...but this ishwari used to say noone knows dev better than her...wat kind of knowing was that if she cud never read his emotions in his eyes...actually she cud always read but interpreted them according to her convenience...wen sona left him the first time she cud see his pain but interpreted it as a short run malady to be cured within a few days...even the second time wen sona walked out of ishwari niwas she stated the same thing...
dev has always been aware how his mom uses him only as a security for her family...his dreams that does not include dixits but his own life and happiness never meant anything to her...that is why he always hides his personal happiness from her like during his courtship with sona he postponed telling his ma even though sona insisted...
no son can be more unfortunate than dev who has to always wear a mask in front of his mom...
