I just wanted to make things a little clearer.. i explained it in the prologue that Dev was Sonakshi's bully during their school days. I actually took this bullying idea from real life. While it hasn't happened to me, it did with someone i knew closely. There will be an explanation to why Dev was so rude to Sona later in the chapters
Chapter 1
Sonakshi's POV
It was sunset. I watched with an unwavering gaze, as a fiery red orb of light slowly sank beneath the horizon, and threads of light lingered in the sky, mingling with the rolling clouds.
The site was so breathtaking that i just wanted to stand there but knowing my new roommate would be expecting me upstairs in my new flat, i carried my feet towards the stairs. Hostels weren't my best suit so i, in my 2nd year of medical college, decided to finally get an apartment on rent which i found after nearly 2 months of searching. It was a 2BHK flat which landed safely in my buget and even though i had never met my roommate, the flat called out to me.
As soon as the door open and my eyes landed on Hetakshi Sharma, i knew i was going to like her. The brunette was wearing a bedsheet around her neck as a cape, a weird cap and a 3d specs making her look like a comic book hero. She had the prettiest hair, tight curls of gold, all moving freely over her chubby cheeks.
I chukled. "Are you trying to save someone?"
She blinked at me and then laughed as she stepped back from the door, gesturing me into the apartment. "Welcome my dear new flatmate. My name is Hetakshi but you can call me Hetvi."
I looked back at Hetvi with a huge grin on my face, feeling good about the entire situation. "I'm Sonakshi. Nice me to meet you."
"Sona" she repeated, grinning at me as I took my first steps inside the ground floor apartment. It smelled great. Fresh and clean.
"I'm in 2nd year of architecture."
"That's Interesting." I threw Hetvi a smile over my shoulder. "I'm a medical student."
The walls were hung with fine grey canvas, it had a large, silvery grey, silky carpet, and the furniture was covered with dark green silky material. There were tons of books lying idly around the flat.
Hetvi hurriedly collected her novels and shoved it in a cupboard. "Sorry I'm a bookworm." Her lips curled up apologetically.
"Don't worry about it, i actually love reading." I gave her a soft, reassuring smile and she answered it, her shoulders relaxing
Hetvi then showed me the rest of the flat. The walls in my room were painted blue and had a mural, a tree with every colour of fall leaf imaginable painted by Hetvi. It had high ceilings, a massive bay window, gorgeous French Rococo bed.
"Do you like it?" Hetvi grin sheepishly as she took off the hat and cape leaving the 3D specs on.
"I had seen the flat about 3 months ago but that time it wasn't furnished and it looked plain as porridge." I admitted. "But i like it better now."
We talked a little about books and she showed me her book collection. Her eyes lit up when she bragged about her parents and her boyfriend who lived next door. His name was Abhik and they have been going out for 7 months now.
Seconds later, I found myself alone in the bedroom unpacking my boxes as Hetvi made tea in the kitchen. She offered her help but i declined; i liked doing things on my own. She told me i had two hours before her neighbor come in with food.
After an hour i was mostly done with unpacking when Journey sang 'Don't stop believing" really loudly at me. I slipped my phone out of my pocket and smiled at the caller I.D.
"Hey dad." I answered warmly.
"Have you moved into your new flat yet? Is everything okay? How is your roommate?"
I sat on the edge of bed. "Dad everything is fine. My roommate is pretty cool."
"Okay, call me if you need any help."
I bid my dad goodbye as the doorbell rang. That must be Hetvi's neighbours with food. The rich aroma of paneer wafted down and beckoned me. I rushed out of the room and towards the kitchen as i heard some muffling. Two guys stood in kitchen with Hetvi, there back turned towards me. I tried not to make any noise as i walked towards the table.
"Did you get a bottle of Sprite and some sweets for my new roommate?" I heard Hetvi asked one of the guys and i picked the mug of untouched tea resting on the table.
"Yes just like you asked."
My eyes widened at the familiar deep voice but before i could do anything, he turned around and his confused black eyes met my horrified ones.
"Munchkin?" He breathed out the name he gave me since the 7th grade when he discovered in PE class that i had the smallest height in the class.
My fingers trembling around the mug as the cold sweat broke out across my skin and blood rushed in my ears. My legs twitched, fighting the impulse to whirl around and run away far from this place.
"Dev." I gritted out.
Dev Dixit. The guy who made my life miserable with his little petty ideas. He pulled every little thing from beneath my feet and was indifferent to the fact that I could no longer stand. I offered my soul, my friendship to him like a brilliant white light, a force to heal an ailing world of cynicism. Yet what he did was wound me inside out and pushed me further away. I despised him. With all my heart.
