i can only echo what you have written. There are many like you who will still watch this show for Sharica! I am one of them. The mode of watching will definitely change. No more TV for me. I am done and probably look forward to the Ram Kapoor - Sakshi Webseries limited episode edition.

The staleness was not overnight... it all happened with the Vicky - Elena track, going on to the Ayaan track, The phantom child track, and culminated with the completely OTT 5cr swindling drama and the SIL slapping FIL crap

The leap may bring in some freshness but unless the writers stick to a proper sensible theme, irrespective of TRPs, i doubt if they can win back their lost audiences. The audience has become more perceptive than what it was a few years ago.

You are too kind, Mr. Das!

Coming to KRPKAB...the unwanted stuff/fluff added to keep the show running (through addition of tracks) ruined the show. They chose to not address a single a issue while continuing to add tracks to what end..we will never know coz its all wiped out now. Frankly, Vikki could have married anyone...Elena in that position doesn't add anything to the plot and so completely unnecessary track. And so is Ayan's as you said.

Perhaps this mess did us good. It yanked us out of this KRPKAB coma and gave us a reality check...never ever tangle with desi serials emotionally. 😆

Must admit that I enjoyed last night's episode ...it was pleasant. Can't remember the last time I felt that way watching this show. And thats a good thing IMO.

RIP KRPKAB as we knew it

Welcome Shaheer and Erica in their new avatars.

Aren't Dev and Sonakshi looking like Shaheer and Erica now 😆

I am kinda liking it..if not for its authenticity but for its freshness. We weren't informed of KRPKAB's upcoming death and we were barely given time to offer condolences. But we have a baby now to enjoy...lot happening but its happening. Either we stay or leave. Lets stick around for a bit and check it out.

First of all allow me to congratulate u on a beautifully written post. One of the best I have seen in this forum in ages.I loved the part that u wrote about marriage. So true. It takes time to understand what a marriage requires and I was hoping( stupidly,I now realise) that this show would be a good and realistic take on post marriage issues, especially with an obsessive mother

The serial had so much potential and could have been carried along so well. Alas!
The show was purported to be close to reality and that was one of the reasons I started watching it. The promos looked fresh and interesting. But now the makers have again decided to serve old wine in a new bottle.. the new bottle's brand name , of course, is Devakshi.. and we have people lapping up the wine for this sole reason. The show lost its claim to be close to reality ages back but over the last few episodes it became fiction in its most twisted form.

I agree that couples who divorce/ separate can rarely live happily together later. They can, at most be friends. The issues that separate them become so strong, fester so long and leave scars so deep that it becomes impossible to heal. And of course, such experiences transform the inherent nature and personality of the people concerned creating in them a general distrust towards married life. So things can mostly never be the same.

The final nail in the coffin for KRPKAB will of course be when Devakshi forget their differences ,reunite and live happily ever after( does that happen even in fairy tales??)

PS: I might still continue watching the show on and off coz just like u I have watched a grand total of 3 soaps on Indian Telly to date.. so I guess I might as well finish what I started ;)

@Bold - Ditto! I was angry for the longest time and then stayed away for a bit. It helped me calm down and realise that KRPKAB is just a serial. Yes, we had become too vested in it emotionally but my time away helped in emotional detachment. And I managed to watch last night's episode without feeling too much. I watched it and enjoyed it like I do an episode of a series that I watch for time pass. ...like...

Gosh! I rarely do that. Everyshow I watch...I love. There is one I watch where I hate the protagonists but watch it coz it is compelling..."The Affair". Have you seen it. It leaves me frustrated but cannot get away from it. And KRPKAB was taking me through a similar ride. But I stopped watching that other series after season 2. Why watch something that doesn't give you pleasure right.

I will therefore check out this show in its new avatar for a bit longer...if it doesn't make me feel any better...I'll be out.

But most of us are romantics at heart. I like to see a happy ending even if it defies logic because real life is too complicated already! Call me an escapist!

I don't know a couple such as devakshi with so much bitterness between them could come together in real life! But this is fiction & any day I would like a nice happy ending any day!

Yes, yes...Preethi. I get you. I started watching KRPKAB for the reason you mentioned but instead of happiness they gave us bitterness and negativity...which really pissed me off.

Lets wait and see what happens. Decent start to season 2.

TBH, I have been trying my best to stay away from the forum and Twitter as much as possible over the last week and to a great extent I have succeeded, barring a total of fifteen minutes I spent here posting few comments on posts that ranged from heartbreak, detachment, disgust, comic to hopeful.

Yes! you read that right. There are many who are still hopeful and trust me, I am not mocking them. Because in life, I am one of those who never gives up hope. I am the flag bearer for the idiom "hope is eternal". And that is precisely the theme of the famous movie "The Parent trap" with Lindsey Lohan as the child artist who plays twins (the original version of The Parent trap is decades before my time and hence haven't checked that out).

The Parent Trap is a movie about twins who were separated at birth due to their parents bitter divorce (rarely is divorce of any other kind) and have grown up not knowing each is one half of a pair of twins. The girls accidentally meet each other in a summer camp and decide to reunite their parents so that they can be one big happy family. Now, that movie made me laugh, cry, hope and love like crazy. And it made me believe that families are meant to be together and happy families stay together forever and ever.

And then I grew up.

I learnt that life is rarely simple and straight forward and marriage even less so. Marriage needs love that is stronger than the hurdles one faces, respect for one another, compassion for each other's families, comprehension of the smaller and bigger picture of an issue and compromise when necessary, for winning every argument is not more important than your marraige itself.

So when KRPKAB ended the way it did and the new promo began...it instantly reminded me of The Parent Trap, the theme that has been done to death be it on celluloid and more so on Indian television I am told (I say, I am told coz the sum total of my experience with desi serials is a grand number of 3 including KRPKAB).

Now, the question is...can the happenings in movies like the parent trap be mirrored/emulated in real life? Unfortunately for KRPKAB which proudly and repeatedly claims that is replicates reality...scientific research proves that lost and found ex-partners/spouses do not have a happily ever after when they remarry. According to one particular study, in the real world out there...only 6% of couples remarried their exes and most of them not successfully.

But we all know KRPKAB will end on a happily ever after note in spite of everything that happened last Friday (7 years ago according to the serial timeline) and despite whatever hardships Dev and Sonakshi will face going forward. And that is the reality (unrealistic) of our desi shows. But I Understand why the makers need to make it that way. After all it is their roz ki roti ka sawal hai na?

So, friends...I am not here to dissuade you from watching KRPKAB. Why should I, when I myself will be catching up on episodes as and when I can...coz I am huge Shaheer and erica fan?

But I do wish people/makers will stop hammering on about the realistic nature of it. Yes, KRPKAB has some elements that represent life but so does fiction in general (as art imitates life/draws inspiration from life) but one does not claim how real the story is unless it has been lived by someone if not in its entirety..at least to a great extent. And what I saw of the last few weeks and especially the last few episodes of show...I seriously doubt anyone experienced life the way it was shown. It was pure drama that was made to end the story that was beginning to look and feel stale due to its vicious circular way of story telling... so that the makers can begin another love story/ fresh romance all over again. Lets call a spade a spade. and there needn't be any bitterness to it coz the show after all is owned by the makers..not us.

So, here's to season 2 of KRPKAB and fun times with Shaheer and Erica in their new avatars (The producers should thank ShaRica and I sure hope the leads got a good pay rise with this leap. coz if it wasn't for ShaRica, I think the producers may have shut shop on this story by now). I may not watch it regularly anymore and may consciously detach myself emotionally but my love for ShaRica will probably keep me here for a while longer.

Realistic or not...Parent trap (Child playing the central role) will be the central theme for KRPKAB going forward; but of course we will have to bear the drama (hopefully not too loud) that will be brought on by Ish, RR and Vikki and how can I forget our Bijoy! The man can redefine the meaning of scream, My lord!

Sandy, Where are you? Missing you and your wonderfully insightful posts.

You predicted that the this post leap, the story would follow The Parent Trap and what an Oracle you have turned out to be. Come back, my favourite writer!
