TBH, I have been trying my best to stay away from the forum and Twitter as much as possible over the last week and to a great extent I have succeeded, barring a total of fifteen minutes I spent here posting few comments on posts that ranged from heartbreak, detachment, disgust, comic to hopeful.
Yes! you read that right. There are many who are still hopeful and trust me, I am not mocking them. Because in life, I am one of those who never gives up hope. I am the flag bearer for the idiom "hope is eternal". And that is precisely the theme of the famous movie "The Parent trap" with Lindsey Lohan as the child artist who plays twins (the original version of The Parent trap is decades before my time and hence haven't checked that out).

The Parent Trap is a movie about twins who were separated at birth due to their parents bitter divorce (rarely is divorce of any other kind) and have grown up not knowing each is one half of a pair of twins. The girls accidentally meet each other in a summer camp and decide to reunite their parents so that they can be one big happy family. Now, that movie made me laugh, cry, hope and love like crazy. And it made me believe that families are meant to be together and happy families stay together forever and ever.

And then I grew up.

I learnt that life is rarely simple and straight forward and marriage even less so. Marriage needs love that is stronger than the hurdles one faces, respect for one another, compassion for each other's families, comprehension of the smaller and bigger picture of an issue and compromise when necessary, for winning every argument is not more important than your marraige itself.

So when KRPKAB ended the way it did and the new promo began...it instantly reminded me of The Parent Trap, the theme that has been done to death be it on celluloid and more so on Indian television I am told (I say, I am told coz the sum total of my experience with desi serials is a grand number of 3 including KRPKAB).

Now, the question is...can the happenings in movies like the parent trap be mirrored/emulated in real life? Unfortunately for KRPKAB which proudly and repeatedly claims that is replicates reality...scientific research proves that lost and found ex-partners/spouses do not have a happily ever after when they remarry. According to one particular study, in the real world out there...only 6% of couples remarried their exes and most of them not successfully.

But we all know KRPKAB will end on a happily ever after note in spite of everything that happened last Friday (7 years ago according to the serial timeline) and despite whatever hardships Dev and Sonakshi will face going forward. And that is the reality (unrealistic) of our desi shows. But I Understand why the makers need to make it that way. After all it is their roz ki roti ka sawal hai na?

So, friends...I am not here to dissuade you from watching KRPKAB. Why should I, when I myself will be catching up on episodes as and when I can...coz I am huge Shaheer and erica fan?

But I do wish people/makers will stop hammering on about the realistic nature of it. Yes, KRPKAB has some elements that represent life but so does fiction in general (as art imitates life/draws inspiration from life) but one does not claim how real the story is unless it has been lived by someone if not in its entirety..at least to a great extent. And what I saw of the last few weeks and especially the last few episodes of show...I seriously doubt anyone experienced life the way it was shown. It was pure drama that was made to end the story that was beginning to look and feel stale due to its vicious circular way of story telling... so that the makers can begin another love story/ fresh romance all over again. Lets call a spade a spade. and there needn't be any bitterness to it coz the show after all is owned by the makers..not us.

So, here's to season 2 of KRPKAB and fun times with Shaheer and Erica in their new avatars (The producers should thank ShaRica and I sure hope the leads got a good pay rise with this leap. coz if it wasn't for ShaRica, I think the producers may have shut shop on this story by now). I may not watch it regularly anymore and may consciously detach myself emotionally but my love for ShaRica will probably keep me here for a while longer.

Realistic or not...Parent trap (Child playing the central role) will be the central theme for KRPKAB going forward; but of course we will have to bear the drama (hopefully not too loud) that will be brought on by Ish, RR and Vikki and how can I forget our Bijoy! The man can redefine the meaning of scream, My lord!

Lovely post Sandy. Your one line explains the whole post " Then I grew up". It is true for all of us. Falling out of love and getting separated hating each other but still in love with each other is different. They still have some unfinished business. Once they deal with it I will be in peace😆

Well said. Parent Trap has indeed become the hackneyed theme on Indian television. And like you I am here for Shaheer and Erica.

We won't get what we were promised...a couple's love winning over a possessive mother's resistance. We were cheated of it. From the initial promos to all the interviewers they gave us spoke about that theme and now it was burnt alive.

They had to embrace a tried and tested theme so that they could reinvent themselves and also extend the story so that they could make the required 400 episodes in order to meet the required number of episodes for this show to air in countries in Indonesia.

But we will get to see Shaheer and Erica romancing in new avatars that are closer to their real life styles and I am here for that. Devakshi's love story failed spectacularly but this extension will give ShaRica to hang together 😆

Yes I have watched that movie. It's really nice but their breakup condition was not as bad as Dev and Sonakshi and post breakup change was not drastic. So u could imagine patchup and happily ever after.
Here breakup was brutal, scared and aftermath is worst. Feel looking at Dev is They r ur Ex for a reason. Patchup of hard working Sonakshi with full blown Casanova Dev after accusation and abuses he threw at Sonakshi will leave a bitter after taste. It's like Dev is the victim whereas it's the other way round. So yes parent trap was nice but hope they don't use it here, cause Dev is not worthy.

Have been on a longish break from the jhoola episode ---- the promo gave me a bad premonition and I knew things would go downhill rather quickly unless Dev changed. But of course, the story tellers had no intention of letting Dev evolve, mature and grasp the bigger picture..address issues that need to be addressed. so...

yeh toh hona hi tha. But of course I did not expect everything to end the way it did last week and honestly, I do feel the decision to revamp the show wasn't planned. It had to be done for fear of shutting shop coz the writers were going in circles...retelling the same story they told with the first break up...just the incidents were different and more infuriating coz Dev never acknowledges and learns from problems and Sona was willing to overlook, forgive, forget everything including her self-respect. Looks like Sonakshi Bose and her mother remembered the great meaning for self-respect in the last episode😆 That swabhimaan dialogue was a joke coz Sonakshi behaved as if she didn't know the word for the most part of her marraige and Asha encouraged her to do so. And then it is Asha who is reminding Sona of self-respect.

Whats done is done. no point crying over spilt milk. I doubt if the show's TRP's will receive much of a boost a couple of weeks in and they will be under pressure to wind up the show and hopefully...this extension has given the makers enough time to showcase Dev's proper understanding of the extent of Ishwari's insecurities, Sona's terrible status in his house whilst she was his wife and his own redemption and Ishwari's redemption.

I am probably expecting too much but hey! umeed pe duniya khayam hai na? Hope is eternal indeed.

Sandy, you are a brilliant thinker, and an even better writer. I wish you wrote more often.

i can only echo what you have written. There are many like you who will still watch this show for Sharica! I am one of them. The mode of watching will definitely change. No more TV for me. I am done and probably look forward to the Ram Kapoor - Sakshi Webseries limited episode edition.

The staleness was not overnight... it all happened with the Vicky - Elena track, going on to the Ayaan track, The phantom child track, and culminated with the completely OTT 5cr swindling drama and the SIL slapping FIL crap

The leap may bring in some freshness but unless the writers stick to a proper sensible theme, irrespective of TRPs, i doubt if they can win back their lost audiences. The audience has become more perceptive than what it was a few years ago.

Its frustrating that the makers added all this unnecessary drama/plot twist for trp when they knew that people would watch this show regardless because of the lead trio chemistry. Many people will continue to watch this show regardless of how good/bad the story is because of Sharica ... So they could have taken advantage of this and just told the subtle story they started off with. Viewers wouldn't have felt cheated as they do now.

I Don't believe the story executed as it had been initially planned otherwise Shaheeri and Supriya wouldn't have publicly complained.
