When I was in school I remember this chapter in one of my science class. It was about learned behavior. In that the scientist uses a dog to prove what learned behavior is. What he does is tie a bell near the dogs bowl. Everyday ring the bell and when dog comes give a treat. Initially the dog does not understand that. But after a while the dog associated the sound of bell to getting treats. Anytime it heard the bell it would expect a treat.

Now Dev is similar to that dog in many ways. Ishwari has conditioned him with her emotional blackmail for 20 yrs and 20yrs is not a short period of time. It takes a good amount of time to question that.

Till Sonakshi came into his life, Dev never thought about himself or his feelings. He just mirrored Ishwari's feelings and everything for him revolved around Ishwari. He has never let anything come in the way of realizing her dreams. But in all this gen ever thought about his dreams. Nor he had any.

In the powe cut episode, when Sonakshi asks him to keep talking while she is using the washroom, he for the first time thinks of something funny. He makes scary sounds. When Sona comes running to him, he laughs. But as soon as the power comes on he stops abruptly. Imagine if you never laughed. It is not easy.

Dev is like superman. He has to project the persona of superman(THE DEV DIXIT) most of the times in front of his family and hide his Clark Kent(JUST DEV) persona always. Only because of Sonakshi he has started to acknowledge his Clark Kent Persona. But with Ishwari being the way she is it is not an easy task for Dev to talk about himself. She expects him to be superman at all times.

Most people think there is no character growth in Dev. But that is not the case. The more time he spends with Sonakshi, the more he is embracing the Clark Kent persona. He might not be completely vocal about his feelings yet, but has started to acknowledge it a little at a time.

One more thing is he doesn't remember what he told Ishwari in his drunken state. He thought that Ishwari agreed to marriage on her own. But he did realize it was not so and did mention it to Ishwari in the recent episodes. For a guy like Dev it is a big deal.

As to the current track, it is similar to previous episodes. I don't remember the episode numbers, but it is something like this. In the earlier episode where maami accuses Sonakshi as she did not give food to her. Now she accused Sonakshi as refusing to give baby to Ishwari.

Continuing the early episode, maami instigates Ishwari to the extent where Ishwari threw the food tray brought by Sonakshi. That is when Sonakshi leaves the job. Here maami uses that money to do the same. Earlier also it is Vicky who brings samosas for Ishwari to eat which Sona says is not good. Here too it is Vickky who brings this news for his mom to use. This time also the result of maami action is that it Sonakshi will leave the house.

If previously Dev waited for 5 hrs in cafe for asking Sonakshi to return home for his mother, this time it will be for him. Probably This is what will lead to confrontation by Dev or he may just shut himself up away from Ishwari. Whatever happens it is very much needed for Dev to accept himself in front of his mom.

Prenup will be the last straw where Dev questions Ishwari without the help of alcohol. Finally He will stand up to Ishwari not for Sonakshi, but for himself. Only when he stands up for himself will he be able to give Sonakshi what she deserves. The place in his family.

Thank you for your comments. I don't think Ishwari will be able to justify herself in any way with prenup nor Dev will buy her explanation. Even when Ishwari tried to justify sending Ritwicks alliance to Sonakshi, he was not really convinced. He did not say anything to Ishwari but he was broken nonetheless.

In the temple when Ishwari tried to blame Sonakshi, he did not let her. He told the truth. An earlier Dev would find it easy to not do that. I mean earlier Dev would say you are right and Sonakshi was wrong. He did not do that. He also said that he lives Sonakshi a lot.

This is the first time he has acknowledged that fact in front of his mother. Also in the segment, he once again tells the truth and not half truth. He is taking personal responsibility without consulting Ishwari. This is what is scaring Ishwari the most. She fears that soon Dev might not consult his mother with his personal decisions. That he will start living his own life without her help.

Dev needs to talk to Ishwari and let her know that it is not the case. For that he needs to humanize her and accept that she is a person with flaws.

Shaavi you have a wonderful way of looking & analyzing things. It really gives us frustrated viewers a differ perspective.

While I agree with all your points of dev being conditioned by ish for 20 yrs or so it is getting frustrating to see them going in circles with minutes character development.

Also the infertility was handled so insensitively esp from sonas character point of view. We were all expecting her to walk or at least speak up but she has really become a pale shadow of herself.

Now a slap to bijoy may push sona out but I feel it so extreme (going by past record I'm not sure if that will even push sona). How do you redeem dev from this action?

Great post. This is demeaning for all women, be it mothers or wives. The worse kind of traeatment the husband or saas can give to wife/bahu for not bearing a child. It's like watching a 50s movie with Lolita pawar, only difference Ishwari does everything with emotional blackmailing instead of being a straight bitch that probably gkb would be.
