Of course he knows that his mother is insecure about him.
I am so sad because knowing all this he dragged sona into this mess.
But , if am correct- that is why he didn't try anything post break up.
He didn't try to convince sona.
Because it was obvious that he can't go against his mother.
Now sona has chosen this life.
She can't complain to Dev now.
That is why sona is hell bent in pleasing iswari.
Because she knows he won't take a stand.

His mom knew what was best for him.. she totally intended to keep him single for life..she even named him after a bachelor (bheeshma - devrath) silly dev .. he thought he could love and marry a girl of his choice

Seriously...for a married woman who has seen the blissful side of marriage with someone like Dev who has bestowed her with so much love, care and protection, to renounce that...what you are calling as self-respect is ego...there is a thin layer of demarcation between self-respect and ego...if Sona leaves Dev then she has taken an impulsive decision and be repenting rest of her life for not fighting her battle and leaving it in the middle
