I understand that Devrath Dixit is a leading businessman and hence may have majored in business and management studies, but doesn't one need to pass grade 6 biology which details human reproductive organs and reproduction system, which includes eggs, ovulation, menstrual cycle etc to actually graduate middle school before going on to scale higher echelons of education system?Anywho...since the screenwriters of this show decided to bid adieu to common sense, logic and basic thinking, lets not break our heads on those supposedly trivial matters and move to more important things like Dev and hubris.

Hubris is a personality quality of extreme or foolish pride or dangerous over-confidence.

It was not hubris but extreme disappointment, helplessness, despondency and anger that made Dev question God. Dev's monologue with God struck a chord in me for two reasons. 1. Even those of us who believe in God, feel extreme anger when our faith in God does not help us tide the most difficult situation at the time (I have felt this kind of anger, hence I get it). 2. Shaheer's flawless performance.

Having said that, I was dumbstruck by Dev's following actions; Did that conversation between dev and the doctor really happen? Was I hearing right? Is this man for real? What is he thinking? Is he even thinking? The questions were endless but there was only one answer. It is hubris that made Dev speak that way.

If and when we normal mortals get angry with God, we probably will stay away from praying/seeking his help for a while, far longer in some cases and probably never in others. But Dev deciding to usurp God's role and that too with the stupidest plan humankind has ever seen, had to be his hubris speaking.

When a man loves a woman the way dev claims he does Sona, he should stand by her through thick and thin and protect her despite odds not being in their favour. But here is Dev playing with Sona's body and probably even endangering it just so she could remain the person his mother can love. Sona is no less stupid in this matter but we are talking about Dev here and my question therefore is, does Dev really love Sona? Or is his love conditional like his mother's? Even if one ignores the ethical mistakes happening in the scene between Dev and Doc, the morally wrong implications (Dev controlling Sona's body) left a bitter, sour and terrible aftertaste that is reminiscent of vomit in my mouth.

In literature, characters that exhibit hubristic qualities are ultimately punished to attain a morally correct ending and those characters meet with tragic end. Hubristic characters are used as examples of what one should not do and be. And today, the makers of KRPKAB turned Dev into that character one should never ever emulate. Going by literary devices, hubristic Dev should be punished and I hope to God, Sona wakes up from her stupidity for long enough to carry out the punishment.

P.S - My opinions above are based on watching only two scenes - Dev's scenes with God and the doc. I skipped watching the rest of the episode coz Ishwari has officially become unbearable in all her avatars for me and I wasn't interested in watching filler scenes.

You have given a very rightful view of Dev. But this hubris in him is cultivated by Ishwari. From his childhood she has given him to understand that failure is not an option. He has to win at all costs...

When they were poor, Ishwari did not want Dev to shift his focus to anything other than becoming rich. That was the only goal she wanted him to have. She created such a narrow path for it that it is like tight rope walking. Anytime Dev tried to look sideways or faltered, Ishwari was ready with her dose of guilt ot emotional blackmail. The FB where Ishwari broke the vase because Dev was playing cricket instead of studying. When Ishwari was slapped, Dev was deeply hurt and decided to hand over all decision and emotions (in terms of anything related to personal choices, dreams and wishes) to Ishwari.

After a while being this way both Dev and Ishwari became used to this arrangement. Ishwari on her end enjoyed the power of playing GOD to Dev and making his decisions for him. Dev on his end never learnt to deal with the consequences of his actions. He never learnt "newton's third law of motion" in relation to life and relationships. He never learnt that every action has not just the immediate profit/loss reaction, but it is far more complicated than that. He always just assumed that like in business, he can just throw money or use power to get his way and it will work that way.

Ishwari always just assumed that Dev never made any mistakes. Is it even possible for a person to never make mistake? Isn't learning from mistakes one of the best things in life? But since Dev has never learnt this, he makes all these impulsive decisions without thinking through leading him to bigger and bigger messes in his life.

Both Ishwari and Dev are living in their cocoons where both have created this false images of each other. Dev regards his mom as GOD and hence does not accept that her decisions or choices for him can be wrong, while Ishwari assumes that she is the only one who knows everything that is good for Dev and she can never go wrong with her decisions regarding him.

Both Ishwari and Dev have to fail each other to face the reality. Right now neither one is ready to face it... But as we know "Man proposes, God disposes". They will face with the biggest mess when Dev's this action will come to light and force both of them to introspect. They will have to face their mistakes and accept them... Only then can they move forward in their life...

Just my POV.

A wonderful post on Dev and his actions. Indeed, hubris makes people believe they are capable of actions / results that are beyond them due to God complex. Scientists are often accused of hubris that stems from their overconfidence; however, since Dev doesn't meet the requirements of a grade 6 science student...we will assume his actions are rooted in extreme foolishness which renders him incapable of common sense, moral senses and basic values.

Excellent posts both you and Shavi. This analysis is what I think what makers are aiming for. I don't think today was even about TRPs.

You dug into the core layer of the problem that has been plaguing Dev right from the beginning. Be it way he compromises Sona's job to bring her as his mother's nutritionist, to the way he tries to handle Ritwick's presence in her life, to the way he deals with Ranveer's issue, Dev dixit tends to foolishly find quick fixes for his problem. Hubris dictates his calls, hence, he believes they will solve any problem and he doesn't need to consult anyone on the right, wrong of it. Alas, if only it were so.

Will Dev finally pay the price for his God complex?

The problem is...The CVs keep taking us in circles on Ishwari's insecurities and Dev's acceptance of her as God and therefore justifying her behaviour. Which makes us wonder whether we will ever see Dev standing up for what is right? Or for that matter, will Sona ever speak up when she is wrongly spoken against?

I persoanlly don't watch the show regularly anymore. Just an episode here and there until the pace picks up will be enough. Staying emotionally vested in something that only poses more problems with rarely a solution in sight is not my idea of entertainment.
