There is so much to say about the past few episodes, that I just couldn't wait for the weekend!
I think Sona's anger, and her reaction expressed in the note was spot on! She needed to communicate to Dev how alienated she was feeling in the family, and she did so in a most effective manner. No arguments there. But I have also begun to see where Sona is tripping herself up in the Neha situation: she is trying to rush Neha into something she isn't ready for yet, that is, to consider Ranveer's side of the story and acknowledge her feelings for him. Right now, every time Sona tries to drive home the point that Neha loves Ranveer, it makes her feel stupid, because she genuinely believes that Ranveer doesn't love her back. Sona, remember when you thought Dev chose his family over you, that desperation you felt to prove that you had moved on, and that Dev meant nothing to you? That is what Neha is going through right now, and in such a situation, telling her repeatedly that she is, in fact, in love with Ranveer is bound to get an angry, OTT reaction from her; it goes against everything she is trying to crush inside her. Neha's anger makes Ishwari and Dev panic in turn, and then it takes no time for them to start frantically, destructively removing everything from the vicinity that might be upsetting Neha. That's what Ishwari was doing when she told Sona to visit her parents.
What nobody in the family is able to understand, is that maybe more than a solution -- either in the form of a divorce, or efforts towards reconciliation -- what Neha needs right now is someone to talk to, to vent, and to discuss her deepest fears and concerns about her marriage. Even in her darkest times with Dev, and even now, Sona has her family, she has Elina and Dada who make her talk even when she is trying her best to hide her true feelings or push them out. That is what Neha needs, and what Sona gave her very briefly, in that beautiful conversation they had last week. IF ONLY Sona had continued to have such conversations with Neha, to be a sister to her, let her insults wash off her back, and given her a space to open up, the thought process that Neha is beginning now might have come about much more smoothly, with less collateral damage. Sona absolutely has the right idea that communication is the answer, but I think she took it a bit too literally when she tried to jump straight to communication between Neha and Ranveer.
When Neha was apologising for convincing Dev to return Ranveer's job when Sona couldn't, I think the she was genuine. She knew how much it hurt her when Ranveer gave more importance to his family's opinions over hers, and she assumed Sona would feel the same way, but Sona showed her another side of why her and Dev's relationship was different. The crux of the issue in her and Dev's argument was not that he had taken Ranveer's job, although she did not approve of that move, it was that he had done it without discussing it first, thereby making her feel left out and unimportant. She doesn't want to change Dev, but she wants him to open up to her completely. A Neha who was beginning to contemplate this shut off abruptly when Sona suggested that she still cared for Ranveer, but I think she took it into consideration later when she thought about why Sona-Dev's relationship was so different from her own. Sona does so much more for Neha just by being in love with Dev, being indispensable to Dev, and showing her what a healthy relationship looks like, than she does by trying willfully to yank the threads of Neha's life together... I hope we see her understanding this soon, and putting her influence into effect! It's beautiful to watch Sona's character slowly, through trial and error, discover her strengths, and take shape as a much-needed member of the Dixit family.
Sona's absence shows so beautifully what she brings to the Dixit household, even when she's not trying. First and foremost, she keeps Dev happy, and only if Dev is happy and calm and in front of her eyes, can Ishwari focus on anything else. The minute Sona left, and Dev took off right behind her, Ishwari's attention was completely lost to Neha. This was evident when Neha went to the kitchen and opened up to her mother about her doubts regarding Ranveer's love. This would have been a perfect time for Ishwari to put a crack in Neha's stubbornness by telling her that not everybody displays love by stalking their partner, and that Ranveer had persistently called her but that maybe he just respected the fact that she doesn't want to talk. It's not clear if this is true or not, but at least it would have opened Neha up to the idea of communicating with Ranveer and asking him what he wanted. But instead, Ishwari was focused on insisting that Dev still loved everyone equally, and he was just doing his duty by Sona as a newly-married husband. And it was back to square one for Neha when she told Ishwari to sleep, only to watch her mother torture herself staying up in anticipation of Dev's arrival.
What can I say about the Bose family? I just love how much fun they have together! I was so impressed with Dadi's silent guidance in these episodes, hidden behind her wonderful sense of humour. While Asha was panicking and demanding to know if Sona and Dev had fought, Dadi made it all so casual... so what if they had fought? Let Dev experience the pangs of separation for a few days! But then when Dev did show up, she knew just how to ensure that he was given a clear path to his goal. Sona still has so much to learn from her family, so much wisdom and positivity that she can bring to her new home, and especially to Dev. And Dev, who did not have the privilege of growing up in such a positive environment, is just beginning to learn its healing power. Everyone, in their own way tried to ease the tension between the young couple. Asha invited Dev in, Elena made him sit next to Sona, Saurabh invited him to stay, Dadi ensured that Sona's excuses didn't work, and when all that failed, Bijoy grabbed the bull by the horns and threw them out! With this kind of parallel processing, and teamwork, not to mention humour, great problems become challenges to face together. I hope that's the lesson that Dev and Sona take away from their visit!
