On a serious note, karwa chauth is as much a husband and wife festival as it is a bahu-mil one. I won't go into the fasting for your husband aspect. That has its roots in the olden days where women were dependent on men in every possible way. Now a days it's done very sweetly in most families. The morning sargi is a mil-dil affair. Usually men join now a days. Most sensible mils pamper their DILs now a days. They get gifts, hubbies either fast or wait for moon before eating and the whole family eats together. Most mils (mine included) ask the dil to eat and just do the pooja.
As for Ishwari fasting, 4 days after kc is a fast called ahoi Ashtami. Which is today. It's done by moms for their sons. (See again, a mother needed her sons as her pension scheme back in the days). I am fasting for my 7 yr old daughter today. My ILs don't do anything like this. They don't do fasts. I saw my mother do this for my sister years before my brother was born. Let's see if Ishwari will do that. She can always do that.
Neha, as you know, is just a means to an end. In fact Ishwari should encourage her to fast. Ishwari's problem will arise from Sona decking up/applying henna and people generally fussing around her.
