Sona showed some very worrying behaviour today, when she didn't return Dev's apology in the car, sulked through his entire speech, and ended their fight only with grudging acceptance and further defence of her point of view. Don't get me wrong, I am always in support of Sona expressing her anger -- or whatever her feelings might be -- to Dev, but this was something entirely different. As far as we know her, Sona has always been very direct in her opinions. If she had a problem with Dev, she told him to his face and ended it then and there. Sulking and silent treatment were *never* her style. In fact, as much as I hate to say it, her behaviour in the car today had Ishwari written all over it!

Uncompromisingly honest communication (barring the infertility thing, I know), and the ability for each one to really listen to the other and understand their point of view, have been the greatest strengths of Dev and Sona's relationship. After every single fight they had before this, BOTH of them have apologised to each other, because they took time to understand each other's perspectives. Today for the first time I was left hanging when after Dev shared his feelings, I expected Sona to show that she understood how she had upset Dev, and where she might have gone wrong, She completely failed to validate his point of view, even when she knew he had a point (why else would she have hesitated to tell him?). If Sona is not more careful about the changes she's allowing in herself, there is a very real risk of the two losing the very thing that makes their relationship special.

Yes, a lot of the time, Sona has a more mature read on situations than Dev, but he definitely complements her blind spots, especially where her stubbornness to have her way comes to the fore. If Dev loses the prerogative to communicate with her at these times, and puts her on a pedestal, assuming she's always right, afraid that Sona won't communicate with him otherwise, then what makes his relationship with Sona any different from his relationship with Ishwari? And I think we can all agree, Dev does not need another Ishwari. 😕

I know it didn't seem like a big incident today, and that their fight was all patched up, but I feel it's these little things that gradually lead to the emotional distance we see in Neha and Ranveer's case; the very things you loved about a person become cause for resentment. I would be totally on board if Sona got a sharp reality check from her saucy nanad. Nobody knows better than Neha that there's no reward or recognition guaranteed when you sacrifice... instead, no matter how much you give, some people will just keep taking until they take you for granted! You should prioritise those few people who genuinely care about your happiness, most of all, yourself!

Brilliant analysis Sam! I have exactly same sentiments about that conversation. I personally felt that Sona should have apologised first because she was at fault, much more than Dev. Infact in my opinion, dev gave her a reality check - and even came down to Bose family, understanding her mellowed mood and point of view.
One very significant quality of Dev that he has displayed in ample quantity has been his unwavering appreciation of Sona and how he recognises her intelligence, grit, strength and maturity, without fail. I haven't seen Sona returning any such compliments to Dev.
Even when her dad was rude with him, Dev has been super understanding. No ill-will, no negativity towards them - he has a big heart.

great post Sam... that was exactly my worry from today's episode.

1. Sona didnt say anything when Bijoy was taunting Dev for no fault of his... isnt this exactly what GKB does to Sona... So i guess CVs want to point out that one should stand up for themselves and not wait for a saviour. I liked how Dev stood up and explained to Bijoy...

2. Sona Sulking and not accepting Dev's apology... i understand she probably didnt have a choice.. so she should have atleast explained him that Maa told this clause later and i didnt feel that it was right to back out because of abstinence rule. Maa kya sochegi... etc etc and sorry but i didnt have a choice or what ever...

but she prefered sulking and Dev had to manofy her...

Sona should stay away from Neha until Neha herself comes to her and opens up..

Thanks, I'm so glad to hear I wasn't the only one who caught this moment! 😊

1. I clapped and cheered for Dev when he answered Bijoy so calmly and directly. I guess being a part of the Dixit household gives you natural skills confronting harsh words without getting upset. After facing cruelty from people for just for being poor and helpless, dealing with Bijoy must feel refreshingly fair and therefore manageable to someone with Dev's background. Poor Sona is not as used to rejection and disapproval, and therefore struggles a lot more to stand her ground in the face of it.

2. I can't accept the idea that Sona didn't have a choice about the vrat. In fact, it was entirely Sona's initiative to say she would, but when she explained it to Dev in their fight, she made it sound like Ishwari asked her to do it, and she had to answer yes or no... very misleading. As far as I saw, Ishwari never even suggested that Sona take part. I think she wanted to inform her to prevent Sona from making any objections in front of everyone. It's a different matter that Sona saw this as a way to ingratiate herself to Ishwari, and got caught in a condition she didn't anticipate. The thing that irked me about the car scene was that Sona had previously thought to herself that she had gotten stuck, and knew that Dev would be upset, yet when he did get upset, she went on the defensive and refused to accept his point. That was messed up, I thought.

Totally agree about Neha! If the Dev and Ishwari upset her so much, I can't imagine how she'd react to the acerbic truth-bombs Taana-sen tends to drop, especially when she's in a bad mood! 😲

I know Sona needs to be very careful and intelligent in her thoughts. She needs to be more supportive of Dev. She is now going to understand how everybody takes advantage of Dev especially Ishwari. From the beginning she has been unfair to all her children. She thinks and had made everyone feel including Dev that she has given more importance to Dev but she has done that only (knowingly or unknowingly) thinking he will be her support system. Sonakshi should understand that and should always be more matured and supportive towards Dev .Dev also should realize her mom is not so innocent in her actions or words.
After marriage Dev has been more matured and understanding and also expressing his love and feelings. Sona should reciprocate in better way.She did feel guilty about accepting to do fast at least she should have expressed the same to Dev.

Sam , how do you keep noticing these nuances and analyse it so brilliantly !!! After watching that patch up scene , I felt something was missing, and I was expecting Sona's apology as well ,because I had seen more than once Sona apologizing to Dev even when it was not really necessary like during their first fight and patch up in rain , or when she was convincing him to sit in Pooja . But never in million times I would have compared it with Ishwari's behaviour with Dev ... Or took it as alarming till I read your post !!! 👏 But it makes so much sense !!! I also admire the honesty (sometimes brutal) in their relationship more than anything else ... And thats what I liked about yesterdays fight , even though Dev knew she was hurt , he didnt hold back and tried to make his point just like Sona justified herself .But after reading your post I really hope Sona wont go in this way further , and Dev would not make it his mantra that "You are always right" !!!

" Nobody knows better than Neha that there's no reward or recognition guaranteed when you sacrifice... instead, no matter how much you give, some people will just keep taking until they take you for granted! You should prioritise those few people who genuinely care about your happiness, most of all, yourself! "

This is just ... 👏👏👏 It can't be said in a better way !!! I'm so happy CVs are using Neha at the right time and I'm more than excited !!! Once again can't appreciate you enough for your unique perspective !!!

Sona's reaction speaks a lot both when Ish ordered Dev to hore Vicky or today when Ish accused Dev of forgetting his responsibilities bcoz of his marriage. I think gradually Sona is observing how Ish makes Dev feel so guilty abt his own happiness n how Dev is burdened by family responsibilities. Ish questions Dev's loyalty n that just hit the bulls eye n then Dev does whatever Ish asks him to do.

Regd fast she should have properly explained to Dev abt the circumstances in which she accepted to do it. But their reconciliation in car did seemed that Sona doesn't feel Dev understands her.

Hey Sam, welcome back. Spot on again. I too felt Sona was petulant with Dev and I thought she would defend Dev when Bijoy was accusing him. But voila, looked like the cat had got her tongue . Anyway the way that Dev responded with politeness was good. And she needs to take a leaf out of his book when dealing with the mad caps at the Dixit household. As you've rightly pointed out if she does not make a U turn soon she'll become someone unrecognizable even to herself and she'll lose the important person who values her the most - Dev, the love of her life 😕. Hope a rude shock will jolt her awake and discard her ambitions of being the perfect bahu- no one values her efforts anyway . I'm keeping fingers crossed that by the end of the week she'll get her 'bodhi tree' 😆 experience and give us the Sona we always loved from Monday... maybe I'm being too optimistic here, but what the hell this show has made me laugh, cry and empathize so much that I can't help but yearn for the best. And the fault to a great extent lies with Shaheer Sheikh and Erica Fernandes and the marvelous supporting cast. 😊

Him and his mom only see the world from their POV and that's sona's problem with him.

Thanks for sharing your point of view, but I disagree. Dev did make a huge mess of things, but Sona did not have to face the brunt of it. Ishwari knows Sona and Dev well enough to believe that Sona would not have sent Dev, and that Dev is capable of such impulsive, insensitive behaviour in anger. The way I saw it, she was much more upset with Dev for accusing her on Sona's behalf and expressed that directly to Dev. As for Dev, he has been on high alert with regards to his mother since the wedding. Why else would he assume that his mother forced Sona? He also picks up on all of Ishwari's micro aggressions -- like in yesterday's episode -- and makes sure to clear them up with Sona.

I know Sona is putting a lot of work into fitting in, but I see it as her putting all her effort into a black hole... she's never going to get the kind of reciprocity she wants and the sooner she realises it, the better.
