Hidden behind the facade of comic relief, I find the root cause of many a suffering tales in your post...patriarchy has made sure that son-in-laws never have to be in a situation where they have to prove themselves - they are never forced into a kitchen drama with their mother-in-law, drawing room brawls with the father-in-law or for that matter any kind of meaningful interaction with the wife's siblings. Once married, the son-in-law gets automatic entry into the good graces of the girl's family. But I do hope that even in jest if we could put dev and asha ji or bijoy ji together in a situation like the fish market, I would be happy !
