Been here from the start of the show, just not on the main forum though. The creations gallery was more of my place but after today's episode I thought I'd voice my opinion and hear some of yours. Went through couple of posts and if I'm not wrong people here are divided over the credibility of this show. Half of lot seem happy with it and half seems disappointed. Well, count me in the 'disappointed club'.
This show seemed so promising at the start and performed amazingly well until the Dev-Sona break up. After being a light-hearted show through the Dev-Sona romance phase while parallely showcasing Ishwari's track with effectiveness, it failed royally at inducing the angst and the pain during the breakup track which was so awaited. Agreed, we had some great scenes and performances by Shaheer and Erica, not to forget got to witness the short-lived but a thought-provoking and endearing character like Ritwick and some tiny-weeny good elements here and there.
But apart from that, what really happened? A drunkard and close to a stalker-ish Dev, a broken and crying Sona, a delusional Ishwari. I expected the breakup track to be so crisp, strong, powerful and impactful that when the reunion would happen, you'd want to jump, dance and rejoice. I expected an absolute distraught and nutter Dev (Yes, he was a nutter but not the kind that you'd imagine Dev Dixit's character to be), I expected severe loss in business, I expected an Ishwari who'd die inside each day watching Dev suffer.
I expected Dev to go through hell, regret, redeem himself and then win Sona back into his life. I expected him to be slightly more aware of his mother's condition. She's not a mother who is just a little insecure and possessive when it comes to her son. That's way too simple to put it as. I am not a professional nor do I have enough knowledge about mental health issues but if diagnosed professionally, Ishwari will be found to have suffering from a couple of medical conditions. I thought after knowing what his mother did and why she did so, Dev would want to delve deeper into the matter instead of just declaring Ishwari the winner of 'Dev Kiska Zyada Hai' contest.
Now, before you jump the gun and tell me what an incredible character Dev is, hold your gun's barrel. I don't hate/dislike Dev, I perfectly understand his reasons, his helplessness, his pain, his misery, his choices and reasoning and everything that he had to go through. Poor guy has had a traumatic childhood, was raised by a single mother and has seen life bring him all the possible hurdles. However, I stand by my original view that Dev should not have broken up with Sona that fateful day. At least not in the manner he did. That was absolutely reckless, insensitive and irresponsible. All that said and done, I haven't seen Dev do anything concrete since then. Absolutely nothing. He gets played along by literally every member of his family and he has zero control over his life.
How much do I blame Ishwari? For all the scars and misery she caused to Dev-Sona, entirely. For the recklessness they showed and hasty decisions both Dev and Sona took, not at all. Even now, when Dev should have been doing all the work, convincing Sona and her family, earning Sona's trust back, assuring her and her family that he'll be a good husband and son-in-law, winning Sona's love again and thus restoring DevAkshi, its still not the case. Instead, its Ishwari Dixit in action, going all out, doing all in her power and being an adamant woman in her efforts to get Sona back in her son's life. No wonder this woman is a survivor, even if a highly damaged one. And what's Dev done? Zero. Nada. Zilch.
Dev seriously needs to grow out of his power and money can get it all done attitude and quick and fast decisions business like approach when it comes to relationships. Showing up with pretty flowers and dreamy eyes, flashing cute smiles and decorating the garden up (basically, rainbows and unicorns everyone!) should not have won Sona. Where was the regret, the hesitation before getting close, the genuine apology? Nowhere. That's where Sona disappointed me, I never expected her to give in this easily. All it took was a Ishwari begging and an emotionally weak Dev for her to agree to marriage. I expected her to give Dev a tough time before she says 'yes'. She's been raising the right questions, concerns and doubts throughout the breakup period and now, all of a sudden, they have disappeared into thin air.
Basically, the show's potential is being lost each day with each episode with the bad writing and rushed up execution by the makers. One track isn't over and they jump right into the next one, no flow, no clarity and no sense of direction anymore. The sensitivity, the surreality, the genuinity, the magical touch, I see it all slowly (or rather fast, should I say?) fading away into nothing.
The only good parts about the episode/reunion was the closely knit, sensible and sorted Bose family and the part where Sona takes a few steps back but Dev doesn't let her go back further and pulls her into a hug. Far, far better than the emotionally disconnected and misplaced proposal. I hope the writers/team know what they're doing or its going to be sad to watch this show lose its quality and essence, some of which is already lost.
PS I always thought the promos of this show were scripted and shot brilliantly. I'll readily watch the compiled version of all its promos than these kind of episodes anyday. 😆
Thoughts? 😳
