THAT was today's episode - a slap in the face for every one in the serial who was deluded enough to think (for a painfully long while now) that Sona was over Dev and had moved on: that Dev was over Sona and had moved on!!
And what a resounding, satisfying slap it was!
After days of enduring grandstanding from Bijoy - all that ego, the unnecessary remarks, the taunts to Ishwari, to Dev that he was not good enough for Sona. That she had moved on. Was happy! All that self delusion, unable to see (despite his wife's every protest) that Sona was suffering, instead pushing her to get married...
And Elena (ok this character has never grown on me and I just gnash my teeth when she s on screen). The bubbly, chirpy, PUSHY, dense Elena who won't give Sona a second s privacy to grieve silently, too come to terms with her heartbreak, her loss. Who must knock on the door when Sona has closed it, who had to push Sona into RIthiks arms for the dance, who had to make the announcement about the exchange of rings in that hyperbolic drawing -out-the- torture fashion.
Then Rithik. Good friend, living- in -the -present Rithik, who has been through heartbreak himself, but ignores all its teachings. And who has convinced himself that Sona is able to heal at lightning speed, even though it took him 3 years to do so.
We can't leave out Sona. Who's arrogant/defeated/and yes deluded enough to believe she's the strong one. Has made the break. And can move on . And has the spectacular lack of judgment to invite her ex to her engagement.
Or Dev who has convinced himself he can stay strong and wish his live well when she goes off with another man.
And of course Ishwari, that high priestess of self-delusion and control, who simply did not see anything amiss for weeks. For whom now the bubble wrap is beginning to burst like firecrackers!
As it is for all these utterly, madly, insensible people whovhave just had their shields shattered!
How satisfying that the chinks in the armour should crack wide open. That Sona should betray Bijoy s faith and send Dev an invite. That Dev should disobey his deity and turn up at the engagement. And that he should stay, not just show his face and go. That he should last the course...Well almost.
That through the chinks the soft flesh should be exposed, and each of these deluded dimwits should squirm, some a little more of course. That they should still carry on the charades of normalcy -Dev and Sona with dangerous desperation, each hurtng, each bleeding inside for the other's hurt until the facade splinters, and the shards find purchase, and the blood gushes forth, and the never-actually-healed wound is bared for all to see.
The truth is out. In everybody's face. And can no longer be ignored, rationalized, denied or wished away. They each have to deal with it.
What a fantastic episode. The build up may have been slow but the climax was everything I could have wished for. Dev stayed true to character - a chastened ex wishing SOna well. Sona too all strong and mature and normal. And then the triggers and the deepening devastation until BANG! It all goes up in flames. Loved it. Can't wait for tomorrow!
