Dev and Ishwari: love, gratitude or debt?

The last scene of tonight's episode just made me wonder. Is what Dev feels for Ishwari - what makes him do things for her without thinking of the consequences and what makes him overlook her every single fallacy - unconditional love or gratitude for having raised him through a struggle-ridden childhood? Or is it that he thinks he owes her a debt of some sort? Because if it is love, it's a love I find it very hard to comprehend. From Dev's side, that is. From Ishwari's, I'd rather not say anything at all. If it is gratitude or a feeling of indebtedness, then that makes it conditional by default...and that's not how a parent-child relationship should be. Maybe that was what the writers intended to go for - to show that for all their claims to boundless love, theirs is a perfectly dysfunctional relationship too, after all. 🤔

The way Dev absolved Ishwari of all blame and walked away today broke my heart in two, and had me hoping to heaven that it would have the same effect on Ishwari. The woman lied through her teeth and I was wondering how she'll justify her own lying to herself now. I'm really close to believing that she is past the point of no return. I wonder how the writers plan to redeem her.

Special mention to Shaheer and Erica tonight though. The mirror scene and the last scene - both of them were OUTSTANDING today. I saw Sona and Dev's pain clearly reflected in their eyes. Wow. Touchwood for the actors they are today. 👏

Aptly pointed out, I felt the same. Its more than love or worshiping his mother. Every time Ishwari has to emotionally manipulate Dev, she plays her "sacrifice" trump card and it works too. Dev has always seen his mother working for them and also he has been brought up like that only. As you said he feel indebted. And some of the parents do this Humne tumhe itna bada kiya n all dialogues. Ishwari is one step ahead in all this. The main problem is she is herself not realizing that she has done something wrong or she don't want to. She is justifying her actions and trying to escape from everything. She has got a blind spot her son and wants to live in her own world only. The way she talked about Sonakshi today, i felt so bad. Its not only that girl but your son was involved too. But all she can see is what she wants to see.

Lastly both Shaheer and Erica were perfect as Dev and Sonakshi. We are actually blessed to get perfect leads.

I say he is brainwashed by her! Since childhood he has seen her struggle and she has raised him by putting the 'responsibility' weight on his shoulders. He is the 'man' of the house now so he will rise to it and he did.

It's also her possessiveness for him. since a kid she hasn't let go of him so he knows no different. He lives for her and her family. That's what she had instigated in his head. He fell in love, learned to be happy but yet now he is left with nothing but guilt that he isn't 'allowed' to be happy.

Messed up childhood always leads to messed up adulthood and Ishwari messed him up.

exactly ishwari has reached a stage from where there is no way for redemption...
i hope the show will end with dev and his wife sona going away to stay in another house...if after all these even if tmrw ishwari accepts sona still it shud not be shown that they will be living together happily ever after...

there shud be some things in life which shud remain unforgiven even if those things r committed by a mother...
nahi to it is like do or say watever u like since u know tmrw u just need to say one sorry to be forgiven for everything...

today one thing was clear that dev knows that his mom is blatantly lying since mamaji has already told him how ishwari feels about sona...

i dont think dev has forgiven her...but he cannot just let go of his 28 years of worshipping her in an instant and accuse her of anything...

but dont worry...from now on everything will be stored in his heart and mind...and one day the bubble is bound to burst...and wen the bubble will burst i am hoping for a superb confrontation scene when dev will demand answer for every pain that she has given to him...

Good post!
I think its both love and debt. Unconditional love for mother combined with an overpowering and overwhelmingly burden of debt. Dev's universe revolves around Ishwari and so does Ishwari's.

Their scene today was so heart-wrencing, Ishwari lied straight to Dev's face and so effortlessly shifted the blame and guilt she was to bear the burden of onto Dev. I always knew the kind of character Ishwari was going to be, understood where she's coming from and got her to an extent. But she greatly disappointed me today, not that this was the first time she did so, however, this was the last nail in the coffin.

I agree, I think she's past the point of no return and I wonder how the writers will be able to redeem her character. I hope one day she does repent and redeem herself though. She's one hell of an expert at emotional manipulation and its tragic how she doesn't realize that's she's ruining Dev.

Keeping the fact aside that Dev needs to grow a spine, my heart went out to him in the last 10 seconds walk. Deep down he knew why Ishwari did what she did, that's she did not send Sona the alliance out of the goodness of her but for own selfish motives. Dev still lets go of the matter taking the guilt on himself, broken, hurt and pained and walks away while the tears in his eyes speak volumes about his miserable condition.

Erica, Shaheer and Supriya were brilliant in their respective scenes. Brilliant job by them all!

PS Nandini, is that you? I'm sorry TM if I have mistaken you for someone else but your DP and writing style reminds me of a friend.
