What if The break up scene went differently? Here's what i imagined instead of the heart shredding pain we saw...

Sonakshi walked through the automatic doors at the ICU into the waiting area at 1 a.m., her eyes scanning the area for Dev. She spotted him sitting alone on a couch, head in his hands. She rushed to his side and put a hand on his shoulder. He raised bloodshot eyes to her, and her heart broke at the agony inside.
"Dev, I just spoke to the doctors. They washed out Ma's stomach and gave her an antidote for the sedative drug, they are giving her fluids and monitoring her urine output to flush out the medications. She'll be okay, but she needs to stay here for a few days. There hasn't been any sign of any organ damage, thankfully. She's okay Dev."
"Thanks Sonakshi. That helps a lot.She's sleeping ,"Dev murmured as she sat next and hugged his arm.
"Ma was very depressed Sonakshi. She felt sad and unhappy, and hasn't been sleeping well the past few weeks. And I didn't see it. I didn't even notice. When did I become that guy? When did I become so selfish?"
"Why do you say selfish Dev? Don't blame yourself Dev. We'll talk to her when she's better okay? "
"I know why she overdosed on those pills Sonakshi..."
"Why Dev"
"Your hunch was right Sonakshi. She doesn't approve of us, and doesn't know how to tell me to my face. She couldn't pretend to be happy and it was killing her. "
Sonakshi removed her hands from his. "Baba was saying the very same thing. It's hard to hear, but all leads seem to point in a direction I don't want to look Dev..." her voice wavered a little.
Dev took in a gulping breath and reached out for her hand. Taking it gently, he engulfed it with his, twining his fingers through hers and gripped it hard.
"You know how much I love you Sonakshi.", she leaned her head on his shoulder and nodded. "But you know I can't choose between you and Ma. Ma is everything to me. I can't bear to see her unhappy."
" I know Dev. Don't you want to know what it is about you and me, that your mother does not approve of? Is it me? Am I too bossy for your family? Does she have somebody else in mind for you? "
Dev's heart sank, hearing her change from calling his mother "Ma" to "your mother". Just that one word and an awful feeling knotted his insides.
"I don't know Sonakshi. She hasn't been communicating with me lately. She speaks in riddles and telling half truths. I don't know why Ma doesn't approve of you. Maybe she sees you as her doctor and not her daughter in law? Or maybe she feels cheated that she didn't know about us earlier. I don't know Sonakshi. I think I made a mistake keeping our relationship a secret. "
" I guess we'll have to call it off then..." Sonakshi said sadly. " I can't see you ever being happy, when your mother is unhappy. Inevitably, this will happen soon anyway. I'd rather it happen in a calm manner like this, rather than us throwing accusations at each other." With a sudden harsh draw of breath, she got up and straightened her clothes.
"Sonakshi... please don't leave right now. It's 1.30 am. Its dangerous outside for you to be alone..."
She sat back down, but two seats away from Dev. He saw her distancing herself from him and hated it. So he moved to sit next to her.
"Don't punish me Sonakshi. I can't bear it..." he said softly. His eyes glistened with unshed tears.
"I'm not punishing you Dev. I'm trying to make it easier for both of us.. This pain won't kill us, unfortunately..." her stoic face was betrayed by her words.
"I am not coming to work at your house anymore Dev. Effective immediately. I will email you my resignation by tomorrow. I think I can safely expect a letter of recommendation from you at least? I did finish my contract with good results. .."
"Don't call me or text me. I will not reply. Don't come by my house or speak to ELena or Dada."
Dev ran his hand through his hair frustratedly. She's breaking off all ties with me. Next I won't be seeing her at all ..!!
"Where will you go for work ? Back to the hospital, or somewhere else?"
"I don't know Dev. I haven't had much time to think it through. Anyway, whatever the decision, it doesn't concern you at all..."
"Sonakshi, please..."
"Please what, Dev? After this I need my space. I can't see you all the time because it'll hurt. I spent so much time taking care of you and your mother, now I need to take care of myself. You know what? I think I'll go now... "
"Don't go, Sonakshi ... Stay awhile more..."
She started crying with the pleading in his voice, she sat back heavily and wept into her hands. He felt wretched and gathered her into his arms. They sat there crying , sharing their heartbreak for a long time.
Sometime later, Dev dozed off on the couch, holding her hand. When he awoke, he was alone in that cold waiting room.
Ms Khargosh left me...
