This is a lame attempt to understand Dev's mother Ishwari. Chappals n tomatoes are welcome.

Ishwari was young when her husband died and was left behind with 4 small kids who were completely dependent on her. The only person whom she could turn to for emotional support was her own son. Her brother would have been a better and healthier option but with GKB as her SIL the chances were next to none. Her own eldest daughter Neha was already deeply impacted by the circumstances that she had turned bitter. Because her mother asked too much from her. But even as a child Dev had this habit of burying his hurt and projecting a front which made his mother inclined towards him. She let go of her daughters because it was easier being Dev's mother. They were so interdependent emotionally that they felt they were one. Dev was as possessive of his mother as she is of him now. The circumstances were such that it was needed for their survival. During that period if Ishwari were to be married again even to a person as understanding and caring as Sona is, Dev would have revolted. Even if it would have solved a lot of their problems and offered them security, because of Dev she never would have done that. When you face unusual circumstances together the bond formed will also be unusual.

They survived that period. Now all her kids are grown up. She have this fear of Dev going away from her. To rest her insecurities she now acts like a child n Dev indulges her. He acts like a parent and she the kid. It assures her that she is still dear to him. She is secure in the knowledge that Dev acknowledges her sacrifices and is completely devoted to her. For Dev his mother is his first priority. He does everything for his mother n his family because he can't see disappointment in her eyes for him. As long as their dreams remains the same their bond also will remain intact. She believes that no girl can touch Dev's heart because of the position his mother holds in his heart. He has put her on a pedestal. How can any girl reach there when Dev looks upon his mother as his ideal?

The relation ship between Dev n Sona shook her to this extent because of Sona achieving the impossible feat of making Dev sitting for pooja which her never did even for his mother. She understood the hold Sona has on Dev for him to do that. But she doesn't know the why? How can Dev give her that place in his heart that he had for his mother without her doing anything? What has Sona done that equated to all his mother's sacrifices ? How can the bond that they shared for the past 20+ years be weaker than the bond with a girl who came into their lives just 2 months back? She feels betrayed.

She would have been better prepared and may not have reacted to this extent if she was aware of the gradual progress of their relationship. She is prepared for the inevitability of his marriage. But if Dev had listened to his wife after a gradual deepening of their bond she in-spite of her insecurities would have handled it better. Now the truth is glaring at her. She is not the only important person in her son's life and he haven't even confided it to her.

Dev has to lose Sona, for Ishwari to understand what Sona has done for him. She may be possessive and selfish in her love for him. But love she does. Dev will be lost without Sona now that he knows how she completes him. Ishwari won't be able to bear seeing a Dev who is just a pale image of what he is now, without Sona besides him. Just like Sona made Dev understand and accept his weaknesses n faults Ishwari is also going to realize her failures as a mother. Once she learns to be a mother she will learn to accept Sona. From the moment Sona met Dev until he realized his love for her she went through one heartbreak after another. Now from Ishwari's realization to her acceptance of Sona both of them are going to face another series of heartbreak. It will be heart wrenching but as long as they are together the journey will be bearable.

I too agree that there is something more than just meet the eye in her past. She is this insecure for a reason. She have some very worry some past that she believes will shake her son's trust and devotion in her.

It is most definitely not lame. Takes something to understand the thought process behind so much negativity that is currently being projected by Ishwari. Definitely deserves a huge round of applause. 👏👏

During that period if Ishwari were to be married again even to a person as understanding and caring as Sona is, Dev would have revolted. Even if it would have solved a lot of their problems and offered them security, because of Dev she never would have done that. Probably, yes. She was the only remaining parent and it's natural for a child to cling to that parent. Add their financial issues, he would be even more desperate to hold on.

Mother and sisters are his world. No denying that. But his world can't be complete with just them, right?? And she knows that. But at the same time, she doesn't want him to love. Those contradictory feelings are confusing the hell out of everyone including herself. And she is having those contradictory feelings because she thinks he will leave her hand if he catches hold of a girl's hand. It is like expecting the bird to sit in the nest after sprouting its wings. Would have been understandable if Dev had been her only child. All this clinging, insecurity, fear... they would have been more... relatable... for the lack of a better word. But thats not the case here.

She doesn't WANT anyone to come into his life. I don't think it's about him not confiding in her or she being aware of the gradual progress. If he had confided in her after his proposal to Sonakshi that night long ago, what would have changed? I will tell you. Nothing would have changed. She would still think that girl came between them. That she is after his money. If she was aware of the gradual progress, she would have tried to stop that progress. Before marriage / after marriage / sudden / gradual... it still wouldn't have sat well with her because the bottom line is her insecurity. Until that is handled, until she realises that keeping Sonakshi away from Dev is sure fire way to lose her son, until they sit and talk out whatever is irking her to this extent.. they will be at an impasse. Because Dev will not go against his mother. Sonakshi will not ask that of him. And if Dev does break off with Sonakshi for the sake of his mother, it would be extremely foolish of Ishwari to think that things will be back to the way they were before. Because the day he loses his love, he would be losing a very large part of himself. And Ishwari will lose her son.

Good analysis. I agree they had an ugly past and Dev has been parenting a parent. In fact he has been hovering around every move of her like a helicopter parent to protect her from pain and disappointment and is always trying to meet her needs. Ishwari is one hell of a lucky woman to have a son like Dev. But the real parent- the mother is hell-bent to make him feel guilty, showing no empathy for his needs. Comparably it is quite easy to handle a misbehaving toddler than a disgruntled self centered parent. It may or may not be her past insecurities that are making her behave like this, or it could be she was always possessive, whiny and rebellious. Some people carry this traits regardless of how they are treated.

Thank you gigi😳

Yes Ishwari can be very difficult to deal with. Just like only Dev can manage her only a girl like Sona who loves Dev like the way she does and accepts Ishwari like her own mother can deal with the mother son duo.

Good analysis.

Glad someone is still trying to find why is Ishwari the way she is now.

Compare the struggles of an adult with a young child. I agree they had a tough life before. But then it wasn't just Ishwari who suffered. Dev and Neha too were part of it. But Ishwari being Ishwari never acknowledged or even tried understanding what a small child would have felt when she was given the responsibility of a mother of two young siblings. What Dev went through that changed a young child to an almost rock like person, with absolutely no emotions left inside of him. Ishwari doesn't know Dev or Neha because she is a self-centred women. Even now she likes when someone praises her say Dev or Mama, you can clearly see the expression on her face that tells how much she enjoys these times. She wants to keep those people around her. Nikki and Riya are almost don't even exist for Ishwari.

Sona was the first person who challenged Dev for his faults, was very vocal about it. Dev himself started understanding what he is only when Sona pointed the hardness in him at various instances. Yes she made him want to be a better person. Unlike Ishwari who is full of herself to bring happiness to others. The only thing she cares is what does it would make her to be happy.

Current phase, I don't believe If Dev would have disclosed about his relationship to his mother earlier things would had been any different simply because the problem never was or is that. And seriously no where a guy or a girl would go and tell to their parents about there love interest on day 1 or 2. All take time. Why are we expecting this from Dev when no one said a word when Neha did the same or rather much brutally confessed in front of all. Ishwari was all smiley and ready for the change. Appreciating Ranveer like hell. Again tells us Sona is not the problem for her, the problem is a girl got close to Dev. The decision was taken out of Ishwari's hand in case of NG or she would have done exactly the same even then or rather would have straight rejected Gujral's idea in no time. She has done that before in initial epis.

I think Khatri has something to do with giving Ishwari money in exchange for something she cannot respectfully tell in front of Dev. Khatri does seem like he had crossed the line with Ishwari before by the way he came and held her hand.

Dev would be devasted by Ishwari's reaction after her initial approval. He would be confused and we would all be able to see including Ishwari weather she acknowledges those changes with Sona or not is yet to be seen.
