Chapter 26:

It was pleasant morning the next day in contrast with the stormy one previous night. Ishwari was having her morning tea and was lost deep in thought. She was so engrossed that she didn't realize when Adi entered her house.

"Hello Aunty"

"Arey beta...tum kab aaye?"Ishwari was happy seeing Adi.

"Few minutes back Aunty...wo Neha ko shopping le jana hai.."

"Sure beta...Neha will come down in some time."

"Aunty...how is Dev now?"

"He hasn't woke up yet."

"Ok...good" Adi sighed.

"Aditya...can I ask you something?" Ishwari asked thoughtfully. Aditya nodded.

"How long have Dev and Sona been togather", She took all the risk and bluffed.

Adi was aghast. How come Ishwari aunty has any hint about this', he wondered.

"Aunty..wo..wo...actually...I don't know much about it, but I have seen them kiss..." he stopped realizing what he is speaking infront of the old lady. The damage was done. Ishwari stared at Adi. She was just guessing so far but things were rather clear. Adi was embarrassed to the core by now.

"Aunty...mera matlab hai Dev never said me anything clearly." He was about to say something more but Neha came there in the meantime interrupting the conversation.

Dev woke up with a severe headache. He blinked for few minutes figuring out where he was. Everything came rushing back to him very soon. Oh god...I was home...drunk? Did Ma see me like that?!' He hurriedly got up; afterall he had some clarifications to give to his mom now.

Ishwari was relieved to see Dev all right.

"How are you feeling now?" She asked him.

"Perfectly fine."

"Good"

"Maa...sorry.."

"For?"Ishu queried.

"I was in a bad shape yesterday. Shouldn't have come home like that." Dev replied guiltily.

"Dev ..this is your home. And this is where you have to come back at the end of the day. I am thankful to Adi and Sonakshi."

Hearing her name all the colors left Dev's face. Ishwari was observing him sharply though.

"Dev..kya baat hai? Kya hua tha?"

"Nothing maa" He replied avoiding her eyes.

"Sonakshi left...she was saying that Elina is back in the town ..so.." She probed further.

Dev nodded and got up reminding himself that he has a business to run. Ishwari's face was full of disapproval. You are so affected that you resorted to alcohol. Couldn't you come and tell me about your issues', She thought sadly.

Dev's entire morning was super busy. Since he took a day off , the workload had piled on like anything. And he was thankful about it. Atleast his mind will not wonder elsewhere. There was a problem but he was not ready to face or resolve it yet. Infact he was in no mood to even think about it anymore. But going to the office and facing anyone was out of question. So he had requested Tina to send all his work home. As soon as he opened his mailbox the first email that caught his eye was that of Sona's. Reluctantly he clicked it open. It was her resignation letter! Damn you Sona!'

Natasha could not believe that Ishwari aunty was sitting in her office today. Yesterday Dev and today his mom...something big was going on.

"Aunty...you could have called me to your home."

"It's ok Natasha. Can't I come and visit you whenever I want?"

"Oh yes you can auntyji"

"I came here to thank you for taking care of Dev yesterday." Ishwari said.

"That's all right Aunty."

"Does Sonakshi love him too?" Like Dev..Ishwari was the one of those who come to the point directly instead of beating around the bush.

"..." Natasha's mouth was wide open by now.

"I know Dev does. But what about Sona?"

Natasha wish she could talk to Dev before getting grilled by Ishwari.

"Aunty ye to Sonakshi aapko bata sakti hai..but she did had feelings for him way back ..so..maybe..." She trailed off realizing Ishwari had no idea about their affair back in Delhi.

And to Ishwari's credit she maintained her poker face. Natasha was trapped now.

Hell..now I know where does Dev get his skills from' Natasha thought ruefully.

Sonakshi was in her house still wondering what to do next. She was emotionally drained by now. Consecutive sleepless nights were taking toll on her now. On top of it all the pounding headache which she had was killing her. Maybe a cup of coffee might help', She thought. Everything went on smoothly until the time when she had to pour the coffee in her cup when the pan slipped from her fingers scalding her hand in the process. She yelped in the pain feeling wretched about her entire life right then. I lost Dev. I lost my job and I don't even know how to make a freaking cup of coffee. Why god why?!' She wailed helplessly sitting on the kitchen floor.

And that's how Dev found her when he entered her apartment.

"Why on earth is your main door unlocked? Anyone could easily come in." He spoke with annoyance.

Sona got up hurriedly.

"And why did you resign ..may I know?"

"I thought..."

"You have to serve three month's notice period. Did you even read the offer letter?"

"Dev ...I thought you might not want me there."

"I think its well established that you can't really think much" he spoke cruelly.

"What do you want me to do Dev?"

"Act professionally when it comes to professional life Miss Sonakshi Bose."

"Fine...I get your point." She replied hurt by his sarcasm. Seeing Dev yesterday in that condition had shook her and seeing him today had started to scare her now.

"You could have just called me"

"So that you could disconnect the phone right on my face" ..this made Sona speechless.

"Okay...I will come to the office." She said getting out of her kitchen when Dev just grabbed her freshly burnt hand and stopped her right on her track. It hurt her a lot but she didn't show any of it to him.

"You really thought that you could just get away from all this?" Dev whispered robbing her of the breath she was about to take.

"I am not getting away or anything." Sona struggled in his grip.

"Really? Then why didn't you come to the office and give the resignation letter on my face rather than mailing me from the safety of your house?"

Sona had no answer to that. Maybe it was her silence which made Dev a bit more angry than he already was. His hold on her hand increased making Sona teary eyed.

"Sonakshi there are many questions which are in my mind now and understand one thing...this time you can't just run away..." He stopped seeing her tears now.

"You are hurting me Dev" She said softly.

"And the hurt which you gave ? What about that?"

"Dev...I mean my hand...wo coffee.." He looked down and saw her hand red and scalded. Surprised he released her hand immediately.

"Where is the god damn firstaid box?" He spoke trying to act nonchalant.

"It will be all right in sometime. Actually I was making some coffee and..."

"Coffee?Really? Even after knowing how accident prone you are?" He was about to say something more but seeing her sad face he kept shut and next few minutes passed while tending to her hand while Sona just looked on.

"Stop looking at me like that." He retorted. Embarassed she focused her attention outside the window.

It was a weird sight. Both of them were sitting on the floor. Sona was all emotional and tearful while Dev was busy looking at her hand ignoring the lady in question.

They both were so into each other that they didn't even realize Ishwari standing there watching everything silently. It was Dev who noticed her first. He got up immediately while helping Sonakshi to get up too.

"Arey maa...aap yahan?"

"Haan...Sona ki bahut yaad aa rahi thi so I came to meet her."

"Aunty please sit..i will make some tea for you." Sona by now had come out of her daze. She was about to leave when Dev stopped her.

"Tum rehne do..Maa..I will make some tea for you. You please sit." Saying so he left.

"Aunty..aap mujhe bula lete." Sona said.

"Nahi beta...just wanted to come and visit you. Didn't expect Dev to be here too. That too during office hour."

"Wo..kuch kaam tha..and I could not go to the office today", Sona lied.

"What happened to you?" Ishwari asked.

"Just little exertion.."

"Where is Elina."

"Delhi main"

"But tumne to kaha tha that she is back?"

"Wo...wo...", As usual Sona was caught again.

Ishwari smiled.

"Dev se jhagra hua?"

"Nahi nahi...aisi koi baat nahi hai." Sona was quick to respond.

"Baat to mujhe poori tarah se samajh aa gayi hai."

"Ji?"

"Nothing." Iswari dismissed.

"Aunty aap lunch time par aaye ho. I will order something for you."

"Sona I wanted to speak to you about something very important. I came to know about you and Dev."

Sonakshi was so stunned that no words came out from her mouth for few minutes. When she actually gained her composure back ..she had no words to say.

"And no Dev didn't tell me anything. Since the day his father died, he stopped conveying his wishes or demand to me. It was like he grew up overnight." Ishwari got emotional.

"Auntyji..aap meri baat suniye.."

"Nahi beta...mujhe kuch nahi sunna hai...he deserve his happiness and so today I have come here to ask one thing..do you love him?"

"Auntyji its not that simple." Sonakshi felt like crying now.

"Its actually very simple Sona...there can be only two answer to this question."

"Aap Dev se pehle baat karo"

"Usse bhi baat karungi...but first I want to know about your emotions."

"We are good friends auntyji." , Safe answer!

"Sona...that is not the answer to my question."

"I don't really think he will ever think about me like that."

"We are talking about you right now."

Sona hung her head. She was just not ready for these questions.

Ishwari waited patiently for few minutes.

"Then I guess my son was a fool to waste all these years thinking about you instead of moving on with his life" Ishwari said resignedly.."And believe me Sona...there were actually many good girls who were interested in him."

"Auntyji...things have changed ...and our relation has got so complicated..."

"Everything can be fixed in this world Sona. But atleast be honest to yourself."

Sona was looking at Ishwari quietly wondering how to explain her situation without losing her affection as well.

"Sona...I want Dev to get married. If you don't have any feelings for him then I will start looking for girls now. I always liked Natasha..maybe she will..."

"Aunty..i mean I don't hate him." Sonakshi didn't mean to interrupt but hearing Natasha's name had always done something to her.

"So you do love him?". Sona just nodded slightly.

Ishwari's happiness knew no bounds. She just hugged Sonakshi.

"Auntyji...please usko mat batana abhi..I mean...I mean..."

"Kya nahi batana hai mujhe?" Dev asked carrying the tray.

"Nothing" Sona replied.

"I am talking to my mom" He replied rudely quietening Sona up.

"Dev...tumse ek baat karni thi." Ishwari spoke after a long pause. Sona looked at Ishwari pleadingly.

Ishwari smiled. Kids!'

"Sure ...bolo naa"

"Actually tum dono se hi baat karni thi mujhe "

"Maa...aap itna formal kyu ban rahe ho? Please batao naa" Dev was getting impatient now.

"Will you both marry each other" , Finally Ishwari took mercy on them.

Sona dropped the tea on her already burnt hand again.'Whattt!'

Dev felt like someone just threw a glass full of water on his face.

"Dev I know about you both. So don't even think about making up stories now. Just answer me. And you too Sonakshi. I need an answer right now."

Dev and Sona looked at each other.

Who the hell is writing their destiny!?', they both wondered.

isn't ishwari ji asked it too quickly... they have to short out things between them first nd this sudden marriage topic.. eargely waiting for how they gonna react on it...

Finally u r back after a long wait ...loved every bit of it n specialist Dev's selfless love..curious to know the next part...dnt take too long..btw r u fine now???

Wonderful fast paced update...lot of things have happened. Good to see Dev coming to meet Sona even after learning the truth and smart Ish grilling information from everyone Aditya, Natasha, Sona 😆

Finally , got the next chapter...fast paced I would say but loved it!! Ishwari is quick like her son ..😆 ...please update the next part soon...eagerly waiting ...
