This is exactly what my complaint is about. Either intentionally or otherwise Sona's character is being portrayed as all knowing and fully matured Mary Sue which instead of making Sona look better makes Dev character weaker. No one is perfect and there should be a balance of things. There are things Sona should be able to learn either from Dev or someone else or there is no room for Sona's development.

So far we have seen Dev understanding more thaings from Sona but not once where he was able to put into practice his understanding of things. So where is the character growth. Just uttering things like " mai rang ehsas kar ra ha hoon" means nothing if we dont see any evidence of it.

For instance the Saree shopping with Sona instead of progressing, his character has actually regressed. He should have known that it was never about jewelry or Sarees for Ishwari but spending time with her son. How could he have been clueless about it when he had been doing it for ages?

Vicki and GKB are also poorly developed. They are being shown as if they have no redeeming qualities. Khatri being irredeemable is one thing, family members being fully black is just laziness on the CVs part.

Edit: It hasnt yet been convincingly shown that Dev realizes his mistake regarding Saree shopping for Mom. So what rang has has he been mehsoosing lately?

@spacenoxx: To some extent, I see where you are coming from about Sona being a Mary Sue, but the way I understand it, it is much more because Dev is placing her on a pedestal than because that is who she actually is. I think this was apparent in the way she handled Neha's lehenga issue. She was reluctant to do it in the first place and only obliged because Dev beseeched her to help him. Even after it worked, she didn't really take credit but acknowledged to Ishwari that it was really just luck that something she tried clicked with Neha. Her unmasked and universal candidness is what makes her real and endearing in my books, and I like that it sometimes lands her in trouble, especially with Dev who isn't used to hearing harsh truths bluntly spoken. I also don't think that Sona is trying to give him gyan; she is just stating her opinion, but she does so in a way that gets through to Dev.
With the saree fiasco, they showed that Sona had no idea why Ishwari was upset. She just followed Dev's lead thinking that he knew his mother better. And the whole point of the story seems to be how Sona's entry into Dev's life shows him how little he knows his own family, eseven his precious mother whom he allegedly knows better than Ishwari herself. Sona is merely holding him to a higher standard emotionally, which is exposing where his drawbacks lie. The fact that he has these flaws doesn't make him look bad in my eyes... it just makes him a damn interesting character!

Regarding Neha's scene somehow no one can get through to her but ofcourse Sona can. Dev :knows she is always" right. Doesnt matter if she takes credit. Everyone knows she did it. The only time she landed in trouble for being candid is when she caught mami stealing.

Its not just Dev who puts her on a pedestal. Entire Bose family, Nikki and even Ishwari puts her on a pedestal (except since her suspicion). Remember the scene where she saw Sona upset (about Devs engagement) and immediately came to the conclusion that Dev must have said something as if Sona can never do any wrong. Watch the whole series again and you could, may be come up with 1-2 incidents where she might be at fault. Thats the definition of Mary sue.

Dev, Ishwari and Neha are interesting because they have flaws and their characters have room to grow which is a good thing. Sona on the other hand has no room for growth. Her char arc will remain at where it started at the beginning of the show. Ofcourse she is a good person but since she has no flaws to make her endearing like Dev, she ends up being boring.

Interesting Analysis

I had always thought Dev knew the importance of Neha especially when he knew that she was the one that sacrificed too and grew her two younger sisters up .
I always felt that whenever Dev wanted to have a conversation with Neha she always shruged it off
and made him feel as if she was not wanted so now with Neha leaving yes he was emotional like any brother would be but for some reason again I felt that it might be because he and Neha never bonded well as siblings there were the oldest yet there was no closeness

I think Sona got through to Neha becuase she framed the whole issue differently. Instead of insisting that Neha should give up something she wanted for something Ranveer's family wanted, which is how Ishwari put it, Sona tried to make Neha see how she was getting something out of wearing that lehenga. A sense of belonging is something that Neha has longed for and never quite achieved with her own family... maybe that's why Sona's random gamble actually hit a nerve?

But Sona has kind of earned that place in her family's esteem as well as at the Dixit's. She's not all talk, works really hard to keep everyone happy and is a sincere and compassionate person. At one point, she was supporting her family single-handedly and she completely turned Ishwari's health around... she deserves all the respect she gets. Flaws don't only exist in the mistakes made, but also in holding back and not being impulsive enough to make many. I think that's what Sona's major drawback is, and what makes her relatable to me. She says herself that she spent most of her life studying instead of socialising and having fun. She may be candid and blunt about her job and day-today affairs, but she is scared of taking risks when it comes to her own feelings, and prefers to retreat to her own private spaces to feel, think, and dream. This is something that was shown so strongly when she couldn't muster the courage to confess her love to Dev. She's confident now that she has Dev's love, but it will be interesting to see if she overcomes this guardedness to fight for Dev after their eventual separation.

On this we disagree because of the reasons above, but there's nothing to do now but wait and see how things unfold! 😊

Thanks, you raise some really interesting questions as well! 😊

I have said this in many posts since the beginning of the show, but I feel that while Dev and Ishwari recognised what Neha had done for the family, they never gave her the rights that came with her contribution; they never treated her like the adult she became too soon. Instead, they treated her like a small child and excluded her from the decisions of the household that she managed! This is where Neha's true frustration lies. At some point, I think she just figured, "if you are going to treat me like a kid, I might as well act like one... what's the use of being mature with you two?" That is why Neha shrugged Dev off. She didn't care to be spoken to like a little child all the time, and that is also why they never really bonded. As she said so many times, Dev and Ishwari formed a team that she was never allowed to be a part of, let alone the younger sisters.

Contrast that with the one time Dev genuinely went to Neha for her advice - when he was trying to figure out what love was - she was happy to sit down and talk to him, as he actually listened. I am not blaming either of them entirely for this rift; it was an unfortunate result of the way they were raised. But it's not too late for them to have a relationship, if Dev understands his sister's emotional needs and Neha understands that Dev does truly appreciate and respect what she did for their family's progress.

I so agree about this being a turning point in Dev's life, and I think the fact that it took Neha's leaving for him to understand her importnace it is also interesting foreshadowing for Dev and Sona's relationship. It's true Dev doesn't take Sona for granted nearly to the same degree, but there is no denying that he expects a lot from her on a day to day basis, especially with regards to hiding their relationship. On the one hand, he keeps pursuing those intimate moments in his own house, without much subtlety, and on the other doesn't want anyone to suspect them. Sona is also the kind of person who is happy to help and oblige, so it is not apparent to Dev yet how much responsibility he is putting on her shoulders. It's not that he's doing this purposely, but he is used to not being questioned and has no idea how obvious he is being. His reaction to Neha suggests that he won't realise how badly he handled this whole situation with Sona entering his life, and his family, until she is no longer around every day. Then only will he find a way to rectify it the way he did with his younger sisters today.

he has 2nd and 3rd sisters to rectify himself in the context of neha but he does not hv a second sona, rite 😉
so i guess he has to be a fast learner this time...

waise i do feel it is too much expectation that sona has to ensure noone gets inkling of their affair with mamiji always breathing down her neck...i do hope dev tells his mother soon...

but with supriya's outstanding perf ishwari's character has become too fearsome at least i feel so wenever she comes on screen these days...so i cant blame poor dev even if he wants to confess 😳

Amazing analysis on Dev

Superb

A character that some time get negative and possessive too about relationship but accepted his fault with innocently like a sweet and cute kid

And the way Dev apologized ...sooo cute
