We have to understand that for Ishwari Saree was not important but the time they spend together while selecting that saree. She disliked the surprise because due to that she was unable to spend time with her son, the time which is very precious for her. This surprise took that away from her, thats why she reacted like she did. Her not wearing a saree is probably a justified, because she is upset that her son does not understand what she wanted. Although it's not Dev fault because he does not know that for his mother that time is important and not the saree.

she was eagerly waiting for this moment on her birthday that her son spends special time with her on her birthday.. and that didnt happen..

Both are right today Dev and Ishwari. Just that their methods are not approved by each other.

I found Ishwari's reaction very odd too, but keeping her insecurity and biases in mind its normal for her character to react that way.

yes.. i think its suitable to react like that as per her character.. .
it will take some time for her to accept Sona, specially her son's choice in his life...

My point is just that she should have acted with maturity. If she was missing the time that she used to spend with Dev, she would have said straight away and could have asked Dev that shs is happy with the surprise but what is more important for her is to spend that time with him. Mother's do have right to ask for this.
Today i found that being in such a strong relationship for years, both mom and son are yet to understand each other. They are emotionally attached and know each others sufferings, but when it come to expectations..they both need to work on that.

She expects him so to know it. He did not. Their relationship is not strong at all, its just that they have been through rough tides together, hence they just understand what the meaning of hard work is. That is the bond they have. All the dialogues between Dev and Ishwari are talking about how tough life was, how they reached here. Nothing about how well they understand each other since they dont understand each other at the same time they dont know that they dont understand each other. Its after DevAkshi as a couple is out that Dev starts to actually understand his mother.

They are emotionally attached because of responsibilities and duties of how to run the house etc. Dev is not at ease with Ishwari which he is with Sona.

It was an interesting episode. And I am left with a comment Sona made yesterday about Dev being a 'gadha' (donkey).

Is it possible that Dev has been taking his mom out saree shopping every birthday for the last maybe 4-5 years at least and does not realise that it's the whole experience and not just the gift that matters!! Really mr. Dixit!!

So ok. Let's say he doesn't get it. So it's not his fault. But it's not Ishwari's either. She has every right to be disappointed. Imagine you're anticipating it from the night before at least. You get up, hurry to get ready an bf stand waiting for someone to take you out to the movie, and they buy you the DVD!! It s not the same is it?!

Similarly, Ishwari's disappointed. And to add to her let down Dev tells her he didn't buy it on his own. If he had it would have made a difference, because anything her precious son had bought for h err would have had to be perfect. But here to add insult to injury, he openly admitted hed bought it with Sona! So this had to have been n Sonas choice.

Hence Ishwari's displeasure. I completely understand why she would not want to wear another woman's choice, especially in these circumstances.

I understand Dev's pov as well, but all this secrecy - was there really any need for it. If Dev can break his engagement at the 11th hour and expect his mum to understand, why couldn't he have trusted her with his reason for his breakup and love for Sona- after the first flush of realization had passed. Where was the reason for this secrecy. And it's precariously close to bad taste imo.

We need think from Ishwari's side too before blaming her..
@bink bold...you have explained very well.. I agree with you every points...
Dev - Ishwari's relationship is strong and complex too.. it will take some time for Ishwari to accept any changes or someone else in Dev's life..also for viewers it will take some time to digest IShwari's reaction...
