Good lord... The last 2 episodes; What a ride it's been! Has it really just been 2 episodes since Dev stepped out of the sweet little oblivion he was wrapped up in since well... I don't know the first time he pulled a certain Miss Bose in for a dance? Our boy is all grown up. Seriously. I actually feel like that. 😆

Okay firstly this one's for Priya and Smita. You guys really wanted a write-up so thought to dedicate this one to you both. :)

Dev Dev Dev... FINALLY. All you really had to do was close your eyes and look inside your heart and the answer was there. Your confusion, your uneasiness over this engagement... The haze finally lifted and everything became clear. It was Sona all along. Ofcourse it was. :) I adored those smiles on his face; both during the dream sequence and when he reminiscences all the time he has spent with Sona, their growing closeness suddenly taking a whole new meaning - Love. What I like about Dev and Sona is how their reactions upon realizing they are in love with the other person were a little similar. Dreamy smiles, followed by pure bewilderment and panic over the possibility of such a thing and then simple joy and acceptance; So beautiful! Ofcourse Dev's realization also involved an immediate denial and berating of self. That was adorable. My favorite moments were probably when he mocks himself over calling her Miss Bose "Naam tou lo kam se kam." His little practice session was so sweet! Loved Shaheer's body language there.

"Miss Bose, sirf dost nahi hai, aur bhi bohat kuch hai." Yes my dear man, we have been saying it for a month! 😳😆

One thing I liked in particular about this whole sequence was how he spends a good 5 minutes just battling the realization before it hits him that he is getting engaged... TOMORROW. Typical Dev. 😆 "Sona mere baare mein kya sochti hogi?" was interesting too. It can be interpreted in 2 different ways.. The first one being the obvious question as to whether she feels anything for him too; the second one is different. It's Dev having some idea that Sona might love him too and how he might have (unintentionally) broken her heart because of the engagement and what she might think of him because of that.

I loved his harried appearance in the morning and how he had clearly not slept all night. He tries to speak to his Mother but as soon as he is reminded of the dream he just about runs away. Nicely emoted by Shaheer there... Very subtle expressions.

We see him trying to to get in touch with Natasha soon after but is unsuccessful and heads back home only to find preparations in full swing. I really liked this particular scene. How he just observes everyone from Mami ji to his sister and Mother, the whole thing just adding to his turmoil... Great stuff. All his life Dev has tried to keep these very people happy. He has lived his life dictated by a need to take care and look after them. He can see how happy everyone is with this engagement (well maybe not Ishwari so much but Dev is unaware of that) and now here he is doing the very thing that Sona told him the first time he broached the subject of this engagement - Listening to his heart. It's going to upset and shock everyone and he has to prepare himself for the disappointment he is going to cause but that isn't enough to make him back down. For once he has to do right by himself. What he feels for Sona not to mention the wrong he'd do to Natasha overpowers everything else. However, in the present moment, his surroundings are still too much for him to handle so he runs back to taking care of his first priority, Natasha. He'll deal with this later. I really like how disheveled he was as he headed out, demanding for the car keys again.

Backtracking to Sona a bit... Uff somebody just tell the poor girl that all isn't lost yet. I love how Erica does all these crying scenes.. They really touch a chord there. Personally feel it's quite a feat to be able to cry so well. My heart went out to her. That was a nice parallel how she wishes she could have called Dev as Dev just once while the man in questions practices saying her name with a touch of shyness.

She actually fell asleep by the window sill... No wonder she's running a fever of 102. I absolutely loved her scene with Dada. You know her description of how Dev and Natasha would look good on magazines covers struck me a bit over how cold and empty their relationship would be. Real life needs a lot more than that so don't lose heart just yet Sona. :) Dada's analogy about people getting wet in the rain inspite of an umbrella was a beautiful one... It's true what he said, when you love someone so much they are also bound feel it.

Dev's confrontation with Natasha - Shaheer was so so good. His initial discomfort.. would that be the right word even? The man was all over the place. I liked how when Natasha touched his hand, he quickly withdrew it and rubbed his forehead instead desperately preparing for the blow he was about to deliver. He fumbles but then it just comes out. I can't marry you because I don't love you. It's as simple as that. No other factors, nothing... Just love. Natasha's outrage was natural... I liked how she trapped him in his own words a bit there. Her reasoning was completely sound. He isn't telling her the truth because if this was all there was to it he could have just asked her for more time. And then Dev finally has to admit it to someone other than himself - Miss Bose. He is in love with Miss Bose. Even Natasha reprimands him sharply over not calling her Sonakshi. 😆

I loved the integrity and strength of character Dev showed in this scene. He really was so enormously guilty over the pain he was causing Natasha. I really appreciated that. She isn't my favorite character but when you see her as someone who got dumped on the very day of their engagement... That's just painfully wrong. I also liked Dev's statement about Natasha being the first person he is telling all this to because she deserved that much from him. He has been an idiot but I'm glad he showed so much respect to Natasha and was not insensitive to her pain and the position he had just put her in. His reasoning about them never being happy together and how he'd be doing permanent damage if he went on with this whole thing despite knowing he is in love with another woman - Spot on again. His logic was irrefutable there and even Natasha couldn't argue with that one.

Finally how he insists that he talk to her Father about this and if anyone is answerable for this mess, it's him was so admirable. Dev Dixit has a spine; a rare thing for male characters on Indian Television. The man really hit all the right marks for me today. Once again, Shaheer was superb. I loved how he brought out Dev's vulnerability and regret in equal parts and how he looked so much like a child who had done something terribly wrong yet also the man who had the strength to face the consequences of his actions.

Coming to Sona - I'm glad she has people like Dada and Elena in her life. I love the understanding silences that she has shared with Elena over the past couple of episodes and how her cousin sister just wraps her up in a hug when she is close to breaking again, no questions asked. Sona's - Iss ghar mein sab paghal hai, koi araam se rone bhi nai dega sounded like something I'd say. 😆 I like the realistic touch they added to the absolute misery she is in. How she simply wants to hide under the covers all day and wallow in her pain - Simple yet so relatable. It was nice how inspite of Dada and Elena's attempts to instigate the raging nutritionist in her, she just glares a bit and leaves. Ofcourse she can't forget everything over junk food... Not today.

The final scene... I loved that bit of silent communication between Dev and Ishwari while Radha Rani spouted nonsense. That pleading look in Dev's eyes as he looks towards his Mother, clearly having something major to say and Ishwari coming forward in understanding... Wonderful.

"Yeh sagaai nai hogi Maa."

YAYYY! 🥳That's my basic reaction. This has gotten too long for me to elaborate further. Looking forward to tomorrow!

Wonderful read as always! 👏

I completely agree. I just love the way they have dealt with this series of events, not shying away from the awkwardness of it all and not indulging in the potential melodrama. So many shows would have gone the route of Dev realising his true feelings just as he is about to place the ring on Natasha's finger, or worse still, going through with the engagement and effectively cheating on Natasha when he realised his feelings. It is so, so, SO refreshing, as you said, to see a male character with a spine who has a sense of his actions and their consequences. Instead of blindly going through with the engagement because it would make his family happy, Dev really thought about the long-term results when he made his decisive call (I think we can all agree that decisiveness is damn hot ☺️).

I also love how much dignity the writers have given Natasha. Strategically speaking, she may just be a cameo made to catalyse Dev's realisation and delay Dev and Sona's inevitable union for a few episodes, but she has truly been so much more! It could have easily been a girl against girl situation where one is evil/manipulative and the other perfect and pure, but instead we have two equally thoughtful, independent and compassionate young women, both of whom dealt with heart break in similarly mature ways. Rather than blaming each other or Dev, they accepted what was outside their control with grace. Natasha being such a sweetheart is what allows us viewers to see what a mess Dev has made by not taking the time to introspect about his relationship with Sona and treating it so lightly. And in turn, allows him to rise in our esteem when he takes full responsibility for his actions.

And I do hold Dev responsible in the most direct sense for this mess, but I think the real culprit in this situation is Mr. Gujral, daddy-of-the-year...It struck me today that the way Mr. Gujral behaved, cornering Dev into this lightning-fast engagement with the deal hanging in the balance, really touches on the central theme of the show: the relationships between parents and their independent, adult children, i.e., when mommy/daddy doesn't necessarily know best anymore!

Natasha was handling the situation perfectly on her own. She admitted she liked Dev and was perfectly willing to wait for him to decide one way or another, no conditions, no judgment. Eventually, Dev would have identified and communicated his feelings for Sona much more naturally, without such a huge blow to Natasha's pride and feelings. His agreeing to the engagement is what gave her hope, the right to believe he loved her, and that made his rejection needlessly heart-breaking and humiliating for her. All this could have been avoided if Mr. Gujral hadn't decided to swoop in and secure for Natasha the next "thing" she wanted. He didn't give her credit for being a fully-cognizant, mature adult, even though it is probably a credit to his upbringing! In trying to save Natasha from heartbreak, her father tragically became the root cause of it. 😭

I think this is pretty strong foreshadowing for the next chapter of our story, with a similar theme playing out in the Sona-Dev-Ishwari dynamic; Ishwari's desire to secure Dev's happiness as she understands it will probably be the root cause of his heart ache, and the resolution will probably play out with parents learning to see their children as discerning adults and trusting their decisions, and kids learning to see their parents as flawed humans, capable of making the wrong ones.

Maham, you write wonderfully- precise, n free flowing. thank you for the post.
right from 1st episode, I instantly loved Sona for being so real, whereas Dev started as more of typical reel character - so perfect outside, maa ka bhakt n too naive to be true in the matters of heart.

but gradually it changed n last 2 episodes, Dev has become special, I mean more real. He feels, expresses, fumbles, repents, n corrects himself.
Shaheer brilliantly portraits the inner confusion, growing up process of Dev, his ownership of the mess n conveys respect n apology Dev has for Natasha. 👏

such meaningful episodes before all of us are swept off our feet in Dev-Sona romance rains...

Superb super superb post 👏👏👏
so very well written and analyzed... you have penned down all of our emotions and ecstasy over Dev's simple yet so wonderful realization and Shaheer's amazing portrayal so well... your post says it just all what we all are feeling 😳😳

and Yes.. bang on..Dev's character has the much needed spine which is generally so badly missing from indian telly male characters... he has that honest strength, where he thinks to do right by everyone first rather than what the society will think!!
He wants to do right by Natasha and his heart. His courage is applauding for breaking up before even knowing what Sona feels for him!! He is not breaking up coz Sona has said Yes and there is a real prospect for them.. instead coz after knowing that he loves someone else (which might even be one sided in his mind as of now) he can not marry natasha and be unjust to her, which she doesnt deserve!!

He has that courage of taking a chance over his love and exploring it with honesty and truth, not thinking that what if Sona says No and he is left with none, not thinking what people/mom will think, not thinking that deal might break...but only one thing that he needs to do what is right and be true to himself, Natasha and his family!!

I really admire the strength of his character, ability to stand up for himself... and not think of how can I do this on the day of engagement ... a symptom or disease which generally plagues most of indian telly shows!!
