One way Mann mein laddo phut rahe the and in contrast, I was feeling bad for Nag..Full on confusion, Whistle maru yaa sympathy dikhaun😆I have no words to describe Shaheer.. Wonderful read as always! 👏 Thank you Sam! 😃
I completely agree. I just love the way they have dealt with this series of events, not shying away from the awkwardness of it all and not indulging in the potential melodrama. So many shows would have gone the route of Dev realising his true feelings just as he is about to place the ring on Natasha's finger, or worse still, going through with the engagement and effectively cheating on Natasha when he realised his feelings. I know right? That is the most likely scenario in nearly every show. Dev has been slow but its a relief that he didn't wake up at the very last moment. It would have been a disaster otherwise. It is so, so, SO refreshing, as you said, to see a male character with a spine who has a sense of his actions and their consequences. Instead of blindly going through with the engagement because it would make his family happy, Dev really thought about the long-term results when he made his decisive call (I think we can all agree that decisiveness is damn hot ☺️). Word to this!I also love how much dignity the writers have given Natasha. Strategically speaking, she may just be a cameo made to catalyse Dev's realisation and delay Dev and Sona's inevitable union for a few episodes, but she has truly been so much more! It could have easily been a girl against girl situation where one is evil/manipulative and the other perfect and pure, but instead we have two equally thoughtful, independent and compassionate young women, both of whom dealt with heart break in similarly mature ways. Rather than blaming each other or Dev, they accepted what was outside their control with grace. WORD. Having being a viewer of Indian TV for many years I have been skeptical about Natasha because the likelihood of such a character turning negative is very very high but I'm glad the writers showed something different for a change. You don't need an evil parallel lead to elevate the heroine every time and I'm grateful for how they wrote Natasha into the story. It only increases my appreciation of Dev and Sona's relationship and how Dev can't help but be in love with Sona inspite of Natasha being a mature, beautiful, intelligent and thoughtful woman herself. That really is more realistic too. Besides it would have been such a huge and unnecessary shift from the original premise.. Natasha was never meant to be the conflict in their story anyway.Natasha being such a sweetheart is what allows us viewers to see what a mess Dev has made by not taking the time to introspect about his relationship with Sona and treating it so lightly. And in turn, allows him to rise in our esteem when he takes full responsibility for his actions. Absolutely. I'm glad they ensure Natasha's positivity throughout and didn't distract us from the mess Dev has made by making him look like some kind of a victim instead. The writing that has gone into this show is really so rare that way.And I do hold Dev responsible in the most direct sense for this mess, but I think the real culprit in this situation is Mr. Gujral, daddy-of-the-year...Err yes. Dev is responsible ofcourse but his only real crime here is being a little slow in understanding his own heart. He really did get cornered there and in his own words while he was still not entirely at ease with the whole thing, the engagement was an inevitability of sorts. I suppose he thought he would eventually become okay with it. Smh. It struck me today that the way Mr. Gujral behaved, cornering Dev into this lightning-fast engagement with the deal hanging in the balance, really touches on the central theme of the show: the relationships between parents and their independent, adult children, i.e., when mommy/daddy doesn't necessarily know best anymore!Natasha was handling the situation perfectly on her own. She admitted she liked Dev and was perfectly willing to wait for him to decide one way or another, no conditions, no judgment. Eventually, Dev would have identified and communicated his feelings for Sona much more naturally, without such a huge blow to Natasha's pride and feelings. His agreeing to the engagement is what gave her hope, the right to believe he loved her, and that made his rejection needlessly heart-breaking and humiliating for her. All this could have been avoided if Mr. Gujral hadn't decided to swoop in and secure for Natasha the next "thing" she wanted. He didn't give her credit for being a fully-cognizant, mature adult, even though it is probably a credit to his upbringing! In trying to save Natasha from heartbreak, her father tragically became the root cause of it. 😭I think this is pretty strong foreshadowing for the next chapter of our story, with a similar theme playing out in the Sona-Dev-Ishwari dynamic; Ishwari's desire to secure Dev's happiness as she understands it will probably be the root cause of his heart ache, and the resolution will probably play out with parents learning to see their children as discerning adults and trusting their decisions, and kids learning to see their parents as flawed humans, capable of making the wrong ones. Love the point you made here. So true. Pretty strong foreshadowing indeed. Loved reading your feedback as always Sam! 🤗
Maham, you write wonderfully- precise, n free flowing. thank you for the post.
right from 1st episode, I instantly loved Sona for being so real, whereas Dev started as more of typical reel character - so perfect outside, maa ka bhakt n too naive to be true in the matters of heart.but gradually it changed n last 2 episodes, Dev has become special, I mean more real. He feels, expresses, fumbles, repents, n corrects himself.Shaheer brilliantly portraits the inner confusion, growing up process of Dev, his ownership of the mess n conveys respect n apology Dev has for Natasha. 👏such meaningful episodes before all of us are swept off our feet in Dev-Sona romance rains...
