Part III
Dev walked into the house after a long day of work. He had his game face on, ready to pacify his sure to be angry wife. He creeped into the room expecting to find her on her side of the bed, night light on reading like he'd find her most nights. Alas all he came back to this evening was silence and darkness.
A feeling of panic began to creep in immediately.He quickly reached for his phone ready to find out where she was, all in vain because she kept sending him to voicemail.
He cursed under is breath not ready to give up. He walked toward the door ready to go to her parents house where he hoped she would be. He almost reached the car when a voice called him from behind.
"Dev, where are you going" Ishwari called out from the stairs. Dev looked around confused not wanting to worry her with his petty fights.
"No where Ma, just going to get Sona from her parents house." He hoped that his explanation would suffice and turned around to leave.
"Wait Dev" Ishwari interrupted walking down the stairs. "You are not going anywhere. Do you see the time? You were at work all day, you need to rest."
"Ma, Im not tir..." Dev began to argue but Ishwari wouldn't hear a word of it. " Go up and rest now. Nutrition can come back herself, she's a grown woman. If not you can always go get her tomorrow, let her spend time with her parents also.
"Okay Ma" he sighed accepting defeat, he never could win an argument against his mom. He walked slowly back up to his room sulking at the thought of having to spend the night alone.
Nevertheless he slid dutifully into bed,not even bothering to change and waited for sleep to consume him. When it didn't he surrounded himself with her pillows so that even for a second he could fool his mind into thinking she was still there.
The next morning Dev woke up bright and early with a new found sense of determination. He was a man with a plan and his plans never failed. Sona never could say no to his puppy dog eyes. As for his in-laws they loved him anyways. This was going to be easy, or so he thought.
He knocked on the door, waiting to be greeted with the ever smiling face of his mother in law. As expected she opened the door and engulfed him in a warm welcome hug.
"Come in Dev Babu, we were waiting for you only" she chirped happy to see him. She gestured for him to sit on the couch with the other members in the family and went in to bring him some refreshments.
"Sona someone is here to see you" Elena sang in her excited voice. " Who is it?" she replied back instantly as if she were already expecting someone. " If its Dev tell him I don't want to see him" she added as an afterthought.
Elena opened her mouth to confirm her suspicion but Dev motioned for her to keep quiet. He walked towards Sonakshis room wanting to take her by surprise.
"Elenaa..." Sonakshi called again waiting for her sister to reply. She was in the middle of folding her clothes she didn't even notice Dev's presence.
He cleared his throat trying to grab her attention and was successful with the first try.
She looked at him and her face fell immediately. He managed to kill all her earlier confidence with a single look. She looked around trying to find the right words to say but it never came to her.
"Ive always loved your old room" Dev finally said breaking the silence and making her reminisce all at once. "We've spent so much time here, so many good memories" he added recalling all the time they spent there while trying to keep their relationship a secret.
"What are u doing here Dev" she asked not wanting to entertain any thoughts of the past. " I am tired, I don't want to fight anymore". He moved from his spot in front of her to stare out the window.
"You left" he accused sounding sad and angry all at once.
"Of course i left, you told me to" she yelled not believing his tone right now.
"Since when do you ever listen to me" he argued turning around to face her. "I also told you to let me drive you to work instead of that darn scooty but do you listen to me? No !"
"No no no no you are not allowed to be mad at me Dev. I am supposed to be mad at you" she bellowed. "You cannot alway try to flip things and explain how I am wrong"
"That's because you are wrong !!" he declared completely frustrated with her.
"Then why are are you here Dev" she yelled back with an equal amount of fervor.
"because... because i missed you " he said looking directly into her eyes. She melted at how sincere he was in that moment. "And no matter how stubborn you can be.." he added.
"you are just a little bit more ?" she completed his sentence.
"Exactly" he stated feeling whole "Now are you coming or do I have to beg." He looked at her hopefully.
Her heart told her to run into his arms and forget all that had happened but her mind stopped her. "I am not going back Dev" she said going against every nerve in her body.
He looked taken aback but tried once again. " Sona, enough please".
"Im not coming back because I'm pregnant" she spit out, shocking him and herself and the information she just divulged.
