I like how you put it all together!
I like how all the characters are just presented 'as they are'; explained by circumstances they are in.

Unlike other serials, there is no dramatic characterization enhanced by change in the music, when the character appears.

Hope the serial remains like this!

Week 2 was good.

The only weak link for me till now is Sonakshi's character and Erica's portrayal of the 'bubbly' side of her. Sonakshi is not as interesting as Dev/Neha/Ishwari and is kind of one-dimensional for now.

I actually find Devakshi's nok-jhok a bit annoying and would rather they kept it more mature. Erica's Geet-style Sona is not endearing, sorry to say. I like Sona better when she is serious. I hope they keep Sona a mature, level-headed girl and not a floozy.

Dev&Neha make the show for me. Love both their portrayals. Supriya is also doing a very good job. Kudos.

I love that the CVs have made Neha multifaceted and not a one note character. I love that she resents but still loves her mother and continues to play the role of a surrogate mother to her younger sisters. Best written character for me. 👏

I also didn't get why Ishwari looked disappointed when Dev's sister said she wanted to join work. Is she of the school where women stay at home and men are the primary bread-winners? I wonder what she would say about Sona's job then. 😕

Brilliant take on Week 2.
Surprisingly as much as I had started to dislike Neha, she turned out to be the one character in this show who I am liking the best. I love the lead pair. Shaheer and Erica are doing a fabulous job.! Looking forward to Sona's entry into the Dixit house.

All the characters are so realistic. One more character that does impact is Radharani. Till now she was very friendly in nature and helped them, but she is manipulative in her own ways. She can manipulate Neha in the future. I would like to see how her character turns now after her son is being slapped by Dev.

I did not like how Sona set aside her self respect and agreed to take care of Ishwari. She is not going to get praises from Ishwari.

Thank you :)

Radharani was shown to be a bit manipulative and petty from Week 1 only. What I found surprising to watch in the later epis was how she seemed to genuinely care for Ishwari in her own way despite their differences or Radha Rani getting a bit greedy seeing their luxuries.

What I get from her so far is that she is a very emotional and nosy character...she likes to poke her nose into everything and gossip...her emotions run high...in a flash, she can get angry and storm off in a huff and in a flash, she can melt and go back to hugging her SIL affectionately. The actress playing her is doing a decent job.

I think she will hold a grudge over her son being slapped by Dev but she isn't outrightly malicious at this point...surprisingly even Radha Rani is shades of grey in this show and not fully black.

Week 2 for me was kind of bearable only because of SP's comic timings.. All the scenes where she was fighting the diet was hilarious ... Mujhe patla nahi banna 😆 she was like a small kid throwing tantrums. She was absolutely adorable.

I liked the way Neha took care of her mother and showed her mother the mirror about not wanting to share Dev with anyone else. That scene was very good. Ishwari's was shocked hearing that.

The other scene I liked was the scene between Neha and younger sister when she is going to check the results of her exams, the younger sister took blessings from Neha and had to be reminded by Neha to take blessings from their mom also.. The dining table scene with younger sister asking for a job was also very well done. Liked the way Neha defended the younger sister. Hopefully she will be made to do something about her life and not just sit home babysitting her mother and sisters.

Dev going overboard for his mother is his character but so much
No comments about Sona. No offense to any fans... Erica is pretty bland for me in her acting abilities. Shaheer also I feel is not upto the mark especially with Erica. His scenes with SP are so much better.

@bold: Oh yes, that was an excellent scene...I meant to mention it in my post but it slipped my mind...that was one hard hitting statement from Neha...that Ishwari isn't even able to share Dev with her own daughters, how will she allow someone else's daughter to share Dev with her? Ishwari was definitely taken aback for a bit...

Re: Dev...lol this was much? But think back to the title of the show...rough translation: Some shades of love like this...so these are all various shades of love...What happens when love makes you helpless? What happens when love makes you ruthless? And this isn't even romantic love we are talking about...that is why I'm liking this show...this is about the varying shades of love between these two families...in Dev's family, his love for his mom makes him helpless and subsequently ruthless...he is so helpless in the face of his mother's refusal to take care of his health and listen to anyone, his desperation is manifesting itself as ruthlessness...it is interesting to me that while we don't have to condone Dev's ruthlessness in handling Sona, we can understand his compulsions vis a vis Ishwari...in the same way last week when we could understand what makes Ishwari so even if she is making mistakes.

In the same family, we also have Neha who again does love her family...her mother, brother, sisters...but that love is tinged with a lot of cynicism and bitterness over the years...that doesn't however change the fact that the love genuinely exists.

In Sona's family, love is some shades of discipline, affection, reproach and sometimes even shamelessness...like with her brother...he does love his sister, but that isn't enough for him to overcome his own shameless lazy ways...and these are all very realistic, human things...these ppl exist everywhere.

And let's think about it...in another show, Dev would have instead been manhandling Sona, calling her middle class do kaudi ki ladki and people would have found this hawt chemistry😆...instead, we have a Dev who is very direct about his reasons for needing Sona right now...I'm pleasantly surprised the leads are still just talking to each other without cornering and hyperventilating over trip-catch nonsense😆...I think I'm glad that Sona's outfits don't even have dupattas as of now😆

As for Erica, yes she is a bit stiff as an actress but since most actresses on TV operate on a typical melodrama template, I am liking Erica's portrayal of Sona for now...since for me this show isn't about some great love story between the leads but a more overall character driven plot that I'm liking for now.

Well analysed post. Agree with most of the points. The best part of second week is the story moved with brisk space without melodramatic scenes or over the top dialogues.I liked Dev for being human with flaws that made him look natural . It connects with me because Dev certainly don't think about the rights or wrongs when it comes to his mother.I wouldn't have liked him if he pleaded with Sonakdhi to consider his offer. Despite being the hero he is prone to make mistakes. He is presented with his minus points also unlike in many serials where the hero is whitewashed and there ends everything. As for Sonakshi I liked her for what she is. I don't blame her for accepting the offer. It is the right step for a girl with good sense and smartness. She protested as long as she can but ultimately as the breadwinner of the family she took a right decision .Again it connects. For reality is bitter than values principles etc.Survival is important and Sona is wise enough to realise this. A different serial atleast and atlast.

Thank you...yes the show is different in treatment so far in the way they are driving the story by showing various shades of the characters...most shows don't bother much with exploring nuance...but this show is.

Dev is using the wrong approach but at the same time he doesn't sit around fuming about Sona...his main worry and concern is for his mother and that is what drives him to approach Sona again and again.

And yes, Sona did indeed make the correct and pragmatic decision in the end...your pride is never greater than survival...and that is the bitter truth...since no one else in her family is capable of shouldering the responsibility, she had to step up...and she still made the decision on her own terms...didn't talk to Dev when he called for her but just informed him via his secretary...lol so she managed to hold on to some pride.

The four characters that you have explored are clearly the pillars of the story here, and I think the writers have done an excellent job so far, gradually acquainting us with their respective traits, virtues, and most importantly, flaws.

Neha is far and above the most fascinating character in my opinion. I just love the way they teased her as being kind of bratty and ungrateful in the first week only to artfully unfold how justified her attitude really is this past week. Not only was she forced to become a parental figure for her sisters at a young age, she is also often forced to be the true adult of the household, taking everyone's needs into account, even her mother's! Her harsh words are not so much meant in malice but are a defense mechanism, to pre-empt all of the baggage unloaded on her all the time. Everyone recognises her sacrifices in name, but they continue to take her vital role in the household for granted. It's crazy to think that Neha felt she had to get married just to find someone who would care about her desires. You usually hear of girls taking a break from their marital home in their maika; here we have the reverse!

This is in good part thanks to Dev's blindness. Even though they haven't spelled it out, I think they are hinting at a bitter cynicism that has developed within him, the idea that only money talks. It probably comes from the lack of compassion he saw during his childhood thanks to his family's lack of money (being thrown out in the middle of the night etc). Any time Dev faces a problem, he throws money at it. He knows Neha is unhappy so he tries to give her a lavish room, Sameer has doubts about marrying Neha so he offers him a share of the company, and now finally as you rightly pointed out, he keeps trying to convince Sonakshi by increasing his salary offer, refusing to understand that her rejection comes from a humanistic standpoint - of all her patients being important to her - rather than a financial one.

Getting her fired was an incredibly low blow on Dev's part and in spite of how I knew the story had to turn out, I was rooting for her when she stood her ground. On the other hand, it's interesting from a story stand point that Sonakshi enters Dev's life as a direct result of the toxic relationship he and Ishwari share, since that's really the crux of the story and what her character is intended to address.

Thanks, Samanalyse! And a lovely analysis from you as well...beautifully written👏

That's a great point you've made about Dev...I didn't realize that until you just pointed it out but so true...he does indeed seem to think that all problems can be solved by throwing money at them...he did the same in Neha's case and that was the wrong approach to use. I thought he was only getting desperate in Sona's case cuz of his worry over Ishwari but this seems to be his standard approach for all problems...

I guess when a person has seen great hardship and poverty, they do look at money as a solution to many things...this is not to say that Dev is money minded or drunk on wealth like a typical wealthy person...he still clings so fiercely to memories of their past hardship almost like it's a talisman to keep him grounded no matter how much wealth he now has...he doesn't take that wealth for granted or shows arrogance over it...but seems to acknowledge the fact that in most cases, money makes people agree to his wishes. Which is where Sona's fierce defense of her principles leaves him puzzled it seems...even though he himself isn't exactly lacking in values and principles...but his emotions over-ride everything and the other person's perspective doesn't always come through to him.

Yes, what he did was extremely low...and I liked that Sonakshi let him hear it from her at every point even if she helped his mother, he was guilt-ridden but still didn't back down...I found that interesting to see...that isn't how conflicts are usually set up...it's usually just the main leads contemptuously judging each other away to glory until overnight lowe happens😆

I'm just intrigued to see a proper Sona-Ishwari interaction now...how will Sona handle a challenge like Ishwari? That remains to be seen.

I personally haven't found Sona to be Geet-style😕 Far from it, actually...she is not doing any real typical "bubbly" heroine stuff...she grumbles about Dev but she doesn't have random talks with Gods in an OTT fashion as the character you are describing.

She is hardly a floozy. She has been shown to be quite mature, level-headed and to the point from day one...she doesn't take nonsense from anyone...not her family or anyone else...she tells it like it is to everyone's faces pretty much...and she is hardly falling into Dev's arms at the drop of a hat to be considered the "floozy" variety.

I think Sona is a very well written and layered character too...there is nuance in her as well...in her relationship with her brother...where she scolds him for his laziness and his bad eating habits but is willing to sacrifice herself to help him out whenever she can...the fact that they show this without overhyping it is what makes it nice for me to watch...

The writing is good for most of the characters...the dialogues are the real stars...

Re: Ishwari looking disappointed about the younger sister working for Dev, I found it a bit odd too...maybe they will explain it in the coming days...cuz Ishwari herself worked to earn money for the family so I'm not sure why she would have conservative thoughts about a woman working. ...she is not going to like Sona anyways cuz Ishwari won't get to eat her fav. foods anymore...

Yes, that is what I'm liking about the show so far too...just when you think you have pegged a character, they show a new unexpected shade to them...last week seemed like Neha was only about bitterness and taunting her mom and brother...but this week she showed that there is more to her than that...that is a hallmark of good writing.

The lead pair so far is doing an understated job which I'm liking...hope the show doesn't go into OTT category.

I couldnt watch the first 2 epi last week. But I had loved Neha from first week and could connect to her frustration and this week she came to me as a person who is an open book. She doesnt hide her feelings. Happiness, sadness, dejection everything this girl shows out. She always tells what she feels, unlike Ishwari who is very much a closed book. I loved Neha when she spoke about job of Riya and the way she kept her hand on Dev when he is exasperated with his mother's childish ways. She supports but she wants acknowledgement for the support.
Ishwari I would say had hard life but from what I understood she had certain habits, certain thought processes which are very rigid and she will not bend it for anyone even if it is Dev. She was not quite happy about Riya working. For her now Dev has to take all the burden as the man of the house. She doesnt think how it will be on him. Who is there for him when he falls. Who can offer him support.

Dev he has a lot of emotional baggage and it shows in his actions. Yes he is dealing with money because of past bitter experiences. I had made a seperate post on this aspect

http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=4586006

Here I have covered both Dev's and Sonakshi's flaws in dealing with the situation. Hence not putting them again. But the thing is that finally Sonakshi knew she had to take that offer. Because she cannot allow her father to go to work and her brother he will not change.
