SYNOPSIS

Kolangal - The story of this serial revolves around the principal character Abhinaya, her two sisters and a brother. Abhinaya, Anandhi, Aarthi and Manohar are the 4 children of Karpagam. Abhinaya is working in a private company, while Anandhi and Aarthi are still studying. Manohar is a school dropout, yearning to become mechanic. Despite odds, the children have been brought up by their mother as straight forward, courageous and bold. Little do they realize how much trauma and troubles they are going to face in life because of their straightforwardness? The eldest our heroine, Abhinaya is a capable, hard-working girl. She has great ambitions of going up the ladder in her career. Usha is her colleague at office who is very fond of her. Tholkappian is another colleague who is in love with her but who does not have the guts to proclaim his love to her. Karpagam wants to get Abhinaya married. Succumbing to her mother's pressure, she however lays down a condition that while she will continue to work after marriage, her income should go to her family even after her marriage till such time Anandhi finishes studies and start working. The money-minded Bhaskar comes as a prospective alliance. Though his family is not in favor of the outspoken Abhinaya, Bhaskar is interested and convinces his family. Their marriage takes place amides confusions and compromises. Now begins the problems for Abhinaya. Abhinaya has to balance between a self-centered husband, his self-righteous sisters and the burdens of the middle-class family. Her troubles start from the day one. Abhi does not run away from her troubles. She faces them firmly but boldly. At the same time she manages to win over all of them with her patience and affection. She realizes that she has to increase her income to make ends meet. So she starts working harder and succeeds. Now she is in a level much higher than her husband. This gives him an inferiority complex and gives way to heated arguments between husband and wife. Bhaskar's only aim now in life is to grow to a level better than his wife. This leads him to wrong paths and finally makes Abhi leave him. Meanwhile, her sisters have started facing their own problems in life. Anandhi has finished her studies and has started working relieving Abhi of the family burden. She falls in love with Shiva and her marriage with Shiva is finalized. Aarthi fallen in love with a waster. Unmindful of consequences, she runs away with him and gets married to him. She realizes her folly too late! Will she be able to come out of it? Will Abhi get back to her husband? All these questions are answered in the serial "Kolangal". For Devayani, who acts as the eldest daughter Abhinaya, it is her first stint on TV.

Can u please do the update Abhita..Since the timings have changed, its difficult for me to watch the serial

yeah in singapore the timings has changed
Iam seeing this serial from the beggining thinking tat it might improve
i.e without draging & some happy times will come to abhi
but till now we have seen all crying thing
& wen we have tolerated 1 1/2 years of her tears All of a sudden wen she is ok now they have changed the timings
& i think the serial has more of adds & less of the episode

i have a feeling that during mettioli oli days thiruchelvam was doing a good job of not dragging the serial unnecessarily. things were quite short and sharp. not in the post-metti oli period. since he knows his serial alone is in the top without any other soap vying for the top billing, he has started dragging the serial.

sorry dear... I will not be able to do the updates at all. Because I leave my office at 9 pm on Mondays, tuesdays and wednesdays. I can watch it only on Thursdays and Fridays and if you want, I can do the update for those two days.

Anyways, the latest is that Abhi's chitti's daughter-in-law is in the hospital. There is some complication and she needs to be operated on and they need the signature of the baby's father. Abhi and Aarthi go to the chittappa's house... but the son refuses to come I think. So Abhi takes responsibility on herself and tells the doctor that the patient's husband is not in station so he cannot sign, and that she is the sister-in-law for the patient and that she will sign...

Guess this is going to cause some problems in future for Abhi.

Another part which made me ponder is that Abhi's chitti is right there... she is the patient's mom-in-law... why didn't she sign?

Hi all. nice to find a group of people interested in Kolangal... the timings were changed and in singapore.. it is now telecast at an ungodly hour close to midnight.. having to wake up and go to work every morning.. i am now taping the show and viewing it during the ads that come in Anandam - it works pretty well especially if i am able to synchronise the anandam ads to the kolangal ads... it was a bit confusing when babies were being born in both serials.

i thought the hospital scene was RIDICULOUS - come on - how many hospitals would insist on the husbands signature before treating the patient

i also think that abhi's dad (whatshisname) is totally off in his thinking - come on now - he had this gleam in the eye which said he will focus on 'reforming' bhaskar so that abhi will accept him.

a woman of abhi's stature - so strong, doing business, supporting family, a pillar of support to friends and family alike - why would she be SO old fashioned in her beliefs.. why would she accept a CREEP like bhaskar again??

Usha - the less said the better. her characterisation leaves a lot to be desired. how could she be friends with Abhi and yet want to marry adithya who actually told her that he would like to kill abhi. she knows that adithya is set to destroy abhi but is not doing a THING to prevent it.

but all said - for reasons entirely unclear to me - I am totally addicted to this show :-) m
