The launch of Sony's mega show Indian Idol slated for Thursday, October 28 at 9 pm (as per the teasers and hoardings) had a pre-start hiccup. It has been rescheduled to 9.30 pm. The one-hour show replaces Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin and Yeh Meri Life Hai on Thursdays. Both these soaps will now run only Monday to Wednesday.
The change in timings, it is learnt, happened because Kkusum's producer Ekta Kapoor was adamant that her show should run only thrice a week, which is what would have happened had Indian Idol aired at 9 pm. "Kkusum is the channel's number one show," says Kapoor. "I don't think a daily soap can run only three days. Soaps are about habit-building and this habit would break if a huge gap occurs."
Meanwhile Sony's biggest offering Indian Idol is on its way to the top according to the channel. It opened to an overwhelming response in its launch episode with a TVR of 5.8 in all C&S households (excluding South). Launched on October 28, 2004, Indian Idol opened with a rating of 5.8 on Thursday and consistently pulled in viewers through the three episodes that played out Thursday-Saturday.
The show garnered a whopping TVR of 9 in Mumbai, followed by 8.3 in Delhi. The show has grown the slot viewership of Sony by 113 % in the launch week as it entered the top 50 slots. In the core target audience of 15-34, women & men, SEC ABC (C&S), and increased the channel viewership of the slot by 147 %.
Speaking on the encouraging opening, Sunil Lulla, Executive Vice President, Sony Entertainment Television, says, "Indian Idol has truly lived up to its promise - Sab Kuch Bhula Diya! The engaging content and format of the show has been a sure fire winner across the world and has now gripped India. We hope the show will go on to bring in larger audiences further propelling the channel on its growth curve."
