Narayani Shastri
Narayani Shastri who plays Rhimjhim in Piya Ka Ghar (Zee) will be seen in a double role in the soap. Besides playing the ever-sacrificing Rhimjhim, she will also essay the role of Megha, Rhimjhim's grown-up daughter.
"The serial takes a leap in March and the focus will shift on the next generation," says Shastri. "I will be playing both the roles so in that sense it will be two distinct characters."
It is learnt that Megha will be a far cry from her mother. "She is nothing like the mother," informs Shastri who has yet to begin shooting for the dual role. "Rhimjhim will never change," adds Shastri.
Piya Ka Ghar, which has been on air for two years, revolves around a dutiful daughter-in-law Rhimjhim who has had several ups and down in her relationships besides the pressures from her in-laws.
Shastri adds that she has no qualms playing the role of a mother.
"It is not that I agreed to play the older role, only if I was offered to play the younger role as well. In fact whenever we spoke about Piya Ka Ghar taking a leap, it was decided that I would play both mother-daughter."
Piya Ka Ghar, which has been on air for two years, is produced by Sheel Kumar and directed by Chander Bahl. It also stars Alok Nath, Kuldeep Malik and Prachi Shah.
Incidentally, Shastri also plays the role of a mother in the Balaji daily Kkusum (Sony). As Taashu, the former wife of Abhay (Anuj Saxena), she has Ansh (Akashdeep Saigal) as her son.
"We laugh about it," she says. "Akashdeep is older to me in real life but that makes no difference. Soaps are a dream world and anything is possible."
