passionate about cricket: Amit Varma

Amit, the first boyfriend of Kittu in Kittu sab jaanti hai, talks about his career

Were you interested in acting since childhood? I was very passionate about cricket and acting. In school, I took coaching in cricket from Ramakant Achrekar (Sachin Tendulkar's coach) but had to give it up because of education. I was equally passionate about acting so I made up my mind that for acting, I will not let any reason be a hindrance. How did your modelling career start? In college, I realised that ramp modeling isn't the kind of career I was looking for. So I started modeling in studios for products immediately after my graduation. It took me roughly six months to get my first break in advertisements. The thums up commercial provided the mileage for many more ads to follow like Lifebuoy, Surf, VIP, BSNL. Then I did the Airtel commercial where I featured with Shahrukh Khan. How about videos and serials? After these ads, I did a music video for HMV for Kishore Kumar's song "Haan Pehli Baar" Then I got the role of a sweet weird flirt called Raju in the serial Khichdi. Then I bagged the central character of Vish opposite Sonal Sehgal in serial Hotel Kingston for Star One.

What do you like...apart from acting?

I enjoy music, dancing, cricket, watching films and sleeping. —Dharam Pal

Television stars describe the funny, emotional, exciting moments when they first felt like stars…

Amit Verma

It was two and a half months after Hotel Kingston went on air, I was in Malad, and I was mobbed by a group of college students. They were all so excited to see me and clicked my pictures with their phone and took my autograph.

They wouldn't let go off me. I was surprised at the response, because Star One was a new channel and it was already so well-known and I felt even more overwhelmed because I was seen on television in small ads and in Khichdi, but this was the first time I was playing the protagonist in Hotel Kingston and that's the moment I felt like a star. It was a very special moment.

Kittu… director sacked

Puneet Gandhi has been replaced owing to differences with producer

Kunal M Shah

Certainly, television directors come with an expiry date. Almost every significant show has had its director replaced. The latest addition to this list is Kittu Sab Janti Hai, Sahara One's fledgling show.

According to reports director Puneet Gandhi has quit the show owing to some creative differences with producer Manish Goswami of Siddhant Cinevision.

Gandhi agreed that he has left the show but rebuffed rumours about having differences with the producer, "Yes, I have quit the show but nothing happened as such. I just quit the show to move on in life and there is no bad blood between us at all. I will now be working on something new in January. It was an amicable decision and it was a wonderful and amazing experience working on the show."

Manish Goswami, on the other hand spilled the beans, "On a personal level I have no problem with him. He is a very competent director and has a great future. I would definitely like to work with him in the future. But the channel was not very happy as far as the tempo of the work was concerned. Kittu… is a daily and it has to work that way. You can't treat a daily as a weekly. Also, there were certain actors who were feeling sidelined and were not feeling important on the sets. So, as per the requirement of the channel we had to replace him from December 14 onwards. It was a combination of many things that led to his ouster. I wish him all the best for the future."

Amit Varma cooks new Khichdi with Kituu

By: Divya Varma
December 7, 2005

Amit Varma
Born and brought up in Mumbai, Amit Varma is all ready to carve a niche for himself on the small screen.

This Kandivli resident started his acting career with TV ads and has established a strong fan following since then.

Currently he is seen as the multimillionaire Rohan Kapoor in Sahara One's new programme Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai.

Speaking more about his character, he says, "I play Kituu's love interest in the serial. My role is of a millionaire who is not like a typical rich brat. He is attracted to simplicity which is why he gets attracted to Kituu, who is a simple and ordinary middle-class girl."

This is the only serial he is doing presently and Amit says it's because he wants to take things slow. "My ultimate objective is to get into films and I am going to start trying soon," he says. Apart from films, Amit says he plans to start modelling again. "I enjoy modelling and want to get back to it," he states.

Speaking about his foray into acting, he explains, "When I was a student of Don Bosco School, I used to actively participate in dramatics. However, after I joined Mithibai College, which is famous for its fashion shows, I started doing ramp shows for college festivals instead of theatre." He adds, "But I realised I did not want to take it up as a career. So, I started to audition for TV ads."

It took Varma about six months to get his first break with a Thums Up commercial. Following that he did many other commercials including ones for Lifebuoy, Surf, VIP, BSNL, Airtel, Kinetic Nova, Birla amongst
others.

From commercials, Amit ventured into plays and acted in several of them including some with veteran actor Kader Khan. But never losing sight of acting in front of the camera, Amit says his first breakthrough came with his role in Khichdi on Star Plus, where he played the compulsive flirt Raju.

Soon he was soon offered Hotel Kingston for Star One where he played the central character of Vish. Talking about his characters he says, "I can relate to all my characters in bits and pieces especially to Vish because of his happy go lucky persona and simplicity."

Amit believes his interest in acting has a lot to do with his family. "My uncles are producers and so I have always been connected to the film world. I have always known that I wanted to act. So, it didn't come as a shock to anyone when they came to know I wanted to be an actor."

Apart from acting Amit's other passion is cricket. "If I wasn't an actor then I would have been a cricketer," he says. In fact in school, he took cricket coaching from Ramakant Archrekar — Sachin Tendulkar's coach, but had to give it up to concentrate on his education. "I was equally passionate about acting so made up my mind that this time, I will not let anything be a hindrance to my acting career," he says.

I just eat to live, says Amit Verma

As Raju of Khichidi and Vish of Star One's Hotel Kingston, Amit has made his mark on the small screen. This model-turned-actor has many commercials to his credit and some good offers in his kitty. Recently he was signed for one of Sahara One's biggest shows, Kittu Sab Janti Hai. This young lad is sure to go ahead with his acting skills and picture perfect looks.

Shaaditimes spoke to the chocolate boy to know his secret mantras for good health.

I am health conscious
I'm crazy about food. But since I'm a health freak I have to really control myself from eating. When I was in college I use to live to eat, but now I eat to live. I easily put on weight so I have to be extra careful and so I follow a strict diet.

I don't restrain myself from eating good and healthy food. The only thing I remember is to eat in a limit. First thing in the morning, I have 4 glasses of water. For breakfast I have 7 egg white omelette's or boiled or just raw egg white if I have no time and 3 brown breads. Sometime I just have fruits or yoghurt or paneer. Before lunch if I feel hungry I have some fruits or low cal biscuits or chips. Lunch is from home even on the set. Usually some dal, 2 rotis, some salad, curd, 1 or 2 pieces of dry chicken or fish. I avoid rice completely. Evening after I come back from the gym I have 4 glasses of milk. Dinner is always light, sometime idli sambar or salad or just sabji and 2 rotis.

I eat Marie biscuits as sweets
I love having sweets, but since I am very much health-conscious I have Marie biscuits as sweets. Caramel custard is my favourite, though. Once in a while I like to have a proper meal. I like Mughlai, sizzlers. Kobe, Yoko, New Yorkers are my favourite eating spots. I avoid eating at non-healthy food joints. Even if I am freaking out with my friends I have very less quantity of food outside.I am addicted to tea
I don't cook at all. I love eating all the tasty meals that mom cooks. I am addicted to tea and have at least 10 to 12 cups of tea daily with less sugar or without sugar. Except for making tea I don't know to do anything in the kitchen.

Keep fit and look good
One has to exercise regularly to keep fit. I go to the gym in the evening. Do weight training, cardio. I don't go for jogging because I run rigorously on the treadmill. I don't believe in taking steriods, but I do take proper whey protein supplements. I am also planning to join dance classes and kick-boxing. I enjoy it and at the same time dancing will keep me fit.

By God's grace I have naturally good skin, so I never had to go to the parlour to pamper my skin. Of course, at home I use astringent and moisturiser. I drink a lot of water and wash my face regularly.

I would advice readers to eat healthy, feel healthy and look healthy. It will help in the long run. Have a better life style and eat less oily food.

Kituu stars in Chicken Little!

Ami Trivedi, who plays Kituu in SaharaOne's Kituu Sab Jantii Hai has lend her voice to the popular Walt Disney film, Chicken Little, which will be released in India on 23 December. This film is also Disney's first fully computer-generated feature film.

Ami has dubbed for Abby Mallard, who's obsessed with Teen Duck magazine and acts as a powerhouse of information for Chicken Little.

This is not the actor's first brush with voice overs. She had dubbed for The Incredibles too, offering her voice to the daughter of the character that Shahrukh dubbed for.

Chicken Little is a hilarious film about a chicken who causes widespread panic when he mistakes a falling acorn for a piece of the sky. Having spread panic Little is determined to restore his reputation. So he joins the local baseball team with the hopes of reviving his reputation and winning the respect of his father, Buck Cluck. He soon becomes the local hero and just when it seems like things are finally falling into place, something falls on Little's head. This time, it is indeed a piece of sky! Scared that he will once again be labelled crazy, he is reluctant to tell anyone what has happened. So he enlists the help of his closest pals - Runt of the Litter, Abby Mallard (aka Ugly Duckling), and Fish Out of Water - in an attempt to save the day without sending their town Oakey Oaks into another tizzy.

Ami has also dubbed for numerous Gujarati films and has been the voice of stars like Ayesha Jhulka and the infamous Monica Bedi.

"I love to dub. It's very challenging and loads of fun. But after I have started doing the show, I have been doing less of dubbing because I perhaps people think that I am too busy to do voice overs! What a pity!" laughs Ami who longs for more dubbing assignments.

Kittu asked to lose the kilos

It's Work Out Time:
Ami Trivedi

Don't be surprised if you see a slimmer and leaner Kittu on SaharaOne's Kittu Sab Jaanti Hai in the coming days. Ami Trivedi, who plays the lead role, has been asked by the producers to try and achieve a leaner look.

Camera adds bulk

Confirming this, Ami said, "Yes it is true that I have put on weight in the last few weeks. I think it's due to the fact that I am eating delicious unit food, and sitting on the sets for long hours. I have hardly been indulging in any form of exercise."

She adds that the camera also adds extra kilos, so she has to be careful. "People around me have mentioned that I have become a bit plump. Even though I have minimal makeup on, I know that on the screen, one tends to look more chubby than in real life."

Battling the bulge

To fight the fat, Ami has started going to Nautilus, a health club close to her house. "I love my workout sessions now. In fact, my lethargy has reduced and I feel more fit and fresh." When does she have the time to work out? "I try and do it a few hours before shoots, or even in between. In fact, my friends complain I have no time for them, since my days are divided between work and the fitness club."

Ami says her main issue is that she puts on weight easily. "It shows on my cheeks; they become puffy. I have learnt to have a controlled diet and a healthy workout routine."

On the personal front, Ami says she is happy about the success her show has had, but there are also downfalls with popularity. "My biggest regret is losing touch with my close friends. We would make it a habit to meet at our local park in the evening, despite my shoots. But now, with my workouts, that time too is occupied."

There is loads of romance on screen for Kittu, but Ami doesn't see anyone suitable off screen. "If I get a boyfriend, he will probably leave me in a couple of days - I won't have any time for him. So it is better to stay single, at least for the moment."

Kituu compared to Waheeda Rehman
Noted film director Priyadarshan complimented Ami Trivedi (of Sahara One's Kituu Sab Jaantii Hai) after watching her performance. "I saw the episode last night. Kituu's performance reminded me of Waheeda Rehman in the olden days. Ask her to keep up the good work." This compliment came through a text message to the director of the show. "I am elated," was all Ami could say when asked for a reaction.
