Pal mein hi
Arjun was sitting on the floor, near the couch for almost an hour, he was remembering. Remember hurt him, made him feel bad but it was inevitable to recall the past.
An hour earlier, he was looking for a book in the living room, and from the book fell a purple amulet. He had put it there to not see it again. It only reminded him of that terrible day. That day was indelible in his memory even after four years.
A whistle of rubber braking, a sudden noise, a bad feeling, this is what he heard when he was there in that supermarket.
Four years ago, there was an accident. A car had hit a woman. People were spreading around the woman, motionless on the ground and spoke but the ambulance didn't arrive. He couldn't even hear the distant sound of sirens.
And then, waiting and the eternal waiting for the promise that torn between death and life, he felt afraid. Fear of losing her forever. But she had always been a strong woman, brave and tenacious. She could not die. No.
Another flashback, recalled him the doctor who spoke with a serious face, he wasn't sad about the terrible news, it was obvious how many times he had given the news, how many times he had pretended to be sorry, but that was just a mask because after informed the patient's relatives, he was waiting another operation and perhaps another bleak news. So for him it was not important if the patient's relatives have lived for years in uncertainty, imbued with hope, that extinguished year after year.
Before leave him it in that state between sleeping and waking, she had give him something precious Anya.
Anya was their daughter, she was four and was identical to her mother in appearance and character. She was the personification of life, Anya wanted to live.
Only for her, he had continued to live all those years, he had tried to keep the promise he made to Arohi on the damn road, he had tried to deal with Anya in the best possible way.
Anya, meanwhile, was very independent, tried to help his father, she was not a burden, she was a joy. Just as Arohi's thought.
He remembered another flashback, he was holding the hand of Arohi in his, sher lying on the road. She looked tired, but had the strength to speak.
AS: Arjun.
AP: Yes, Arohi. I'm here.
AS: You have to promise me one thing.
AP: What?
AS: Promise me you will take care of Anya. Whatever happens.
AP: No, do not say this. We'll take care together and you'll teach me how to be a great father. You'll tell me not to take her to tennis lessons...
Even if he was going to calm her he could not, his voice was trembling slightly, she was important to him, and he was important to her. They both gave their lives for others.
AS: Arjun, please. Promise.
AP: No, Arohi! I do not want. Because this would mean that ..
AS: That I'll always near you. But you you have to take care of her.
AP: I do not know if I'll be able to.
AS: I am certain. Tell her that I gave the life for "love".
At these words, Arohi faint and four years she had not opened her eyes. She had not screamed or beaten him. Nothing.
Now it was just him and his daughter. Nothing else mattered.
