Chapter 2

Jealousy is just a child of love...

Tel him the truth,

An instruction so simple, Arohi could hardly believe its results. Who in the world thought Arjun Singhania knew so much about love? She smiled a bit at the thought, she wouldn't dream of underestimating him again. Yes, she had made up with Rahul, it was better than before now that she didn't have to hide everything about herself anymore. They had spent evening after evening, talking, catching up what happened after each was adapted in to a new family. It was only the other evening Arjun was complaining that she didn't give him time anymore. But the truth was that both of them were so busy with their lives.

Finally breaking her thought process she looked at Rahul who was sitting across from her in the cafeteria. He was saying something she hadn't heard, and now the silence insisted that he had asked her a question.

Um...Sorry,' she smiled. What?'

Dinner?' said Rahul. The one we've been planning for a week, you're coming aren't you?'

Hmm yes,' said Arohi. I so want to,' but before she could complete her sentence her phone vibrated. She glanced at the screen.

Choti ma,' she said surprised. She never calls when I'm here' she said then. I told you about her remember? She was a mother to me when Mama passed away. And she knows everything that's going on with my life,'

Even about me?' Rahul asked his eyebrows raised.

Even about you,' affirmed Arohi and she dialed back. Yes Choti ma?'

Arohi where were you?' said the caller. I was trying to reach you since morning, did you know that Arjun-

Arohi cut in. He's not at home I know. We had an argument last evening, and he left fuming. Don't worry Choti ma when he becomes sane he'll return himself. He's not a child,'

Will you let me finish?' said Choti ma desperately. Arjun's car crashed!'

Unconsciously Arohi got to her feet, clutching the phone loosely to her ear.

What?' she chocked.

Come home immediately' and the call ended.

Wh- Rahul had only begun when Arohi rushed out, leaving his question hanging.

He was home, that means no serious injury...right? Arohi thought to herself as she ran towards the main entrance and someone opened it the same time she approached. It was Savita, her Choti ma.

How is he?' she asked breathlessly.

See for yourself,' Savita replied exasperatedly. Upstairs,' with that she left, the pooja thali in her right hand and her left fixing her palllu. So Arohi continued her run all the way up to Arjun's room.

She stood at his threshold panting. One of his hands was bandaged. He waved the other in greeting with a lopsided grin adorning his face.

Nice of you to drop by!' he said innocently. I am having a wonderful time here!'

Drop the sarcasm Arjun,' someone said to her right. Arohi looked around and saw Tara sitting in the sofa by the window, creases of worry etched to her face.

Hey peanut, did you know mom was a seer? She just sensed something bad was going to happen, typical mom,'

Arohi raised her eyebrows. Only Arjun could joke aroud the look Tara was giving him now.

Namaste Aunty,' said Arohi as Tara nodded with a slight smile. Tell me Arohi how do you tolerate this idiot and his stupidity?'

Hey why are you sidding up against poor Arjun?' Cooed Arjun. See even his hand is broken...poor boy,'

Your hand isn't broken!' said Tara. It's just twisted, by god's grace!'

What do you mean mom, that it isn't broken by god's grace or it's twisted by god's grace?'

Tara sighed as Arohi frowned.

Shut up Mr. Smart mouth,' she said. The next time you manage to scare me like this I'll personally be giving you an injury,' she added pointing the fruit knife she picked up from the table at him. Keep your over smart comments to yourself and let us take care of you,'

At the same moment, Rudra Pratap Singhania entered with him carrying a large file.

Now that the taking care of is done.' He said. Shall we talk about some work, why haven't these auditions been shortlisted Arjun?'

Tara frowned at him.

I was just asking,' he said defensively.

You better be uncle,' said Arohi firmly. Because this idiot isn't going anywhere!'

Yeah dad, can't you see I'm resting!'

Rudra shook his head, muttering something he left the room.

Arohi!' said Arjun suddenly in a serious tone. It hurts!' He said indicating his arm.

Stop waving it! You'll damage it further,' she said as she sat on the edge of his bed. And she started to cut apples rather furiously.

Why are you taking you revenge on Apples?' said Arjun after a moment.

Why can't you be careful?' Said Arohi. What if something bad happens?'

Arjun watched her for a moment, seriously. But didn't say anything.

One thing is sure now.' Arohi said after a moment. I'm never letting you drive me anywhere, Can't trust you with my life,'

Yes peanut,' said Arjun seriously. Never do that, I might die saving you,'

And Tara left the room with a hard expression. Out in the passage she met Savita who offered her Arati. Tara without a word dragged her to a corner.

What happened Tara?' She asked worried about her look.

Arohi will have to stay away from Arjun,' Tara said slowly.

What? Why?'

Remember you told me she's in love with someone and you're planning to talk about it with Akhil?'

Yes, so what?'

If Arohi don't maintain her distance Arjun might fall in love with her,'

Savita looked at Tara with a shocked expression and laughed hard.

Look at you Tara which period of time are you living in? They're friends! That too from childhood. It is a simple friendship!'

It is now,' said Tara. But I've seen the way Arjun looks at her, like his life revolves around her. Inside all these jokes and laughter you know how soft he is. If you lose your first love it is a damage that can never be repaired,'

Savita looked serious now.

It's all in your head Kumud,' she said in a serious tone. Tara looked shocked at the use of a name she had long ago forsaken.

If you remember all that you may also remember why I am so afraid. I can't let Arjun face what I have. I will not. If by any reason he does start loving Arohi he'll get her at any cost. It may ruin her life but I will do it! So if you don't want me to be harsh you will help me in keeping them apart.'

Savita didn't say anything.

Fine,' she said after a moment.

Remember,' said Tara finally. I can do anything for my son.'

Weeks later...

His mother had insisted in going back to their own home, instead of being subjected to her wreath Arjun had agreed. But since then he hadn't seen Arohi. He could understand she was busy, but still he missed her like hell. Only, being able to work once more was a relief. He was going back to her collage for that half incomplete audition and was hoping to see her. He might give her a piece of his mind right there! How dare she ignore him!

It was the same reason he had walked in to their cafeteria with Rishi, both talking in low voices. What they hadn't realize the moment they entered was that some kind of celebration was going on.

I didn't know Valentines' is in august.' Rishi muttered eyeing the red decorations on the walls.

It's not valentine,' said Arjun. It's reunite day. You know when you say sorry to you ex, and I love you if you really want to make up after a messy break up,'

I've never heard of such a day,' said Rishi shaking his head.

It's a specialty of this collage,'

How do you know?'

Arjun raised his eyebrows.

My father started this institute remember?'

But before Rishi could say something more someone started to play a guitar and a voice joined in.

He had heard that voice before. It was Arohi, but he never knew she could sound so divine.

She's the one man,' said Rishi tapping his foot to the ground.

Yeah, she is the one,' Arjun said slowly. How blind had he been? When the one he was searching for had been with him all along?

Arjun didn't hear the rest of the song as he was busy staring at Arohi. The song ended to a sea of clapping.

I hope this never become true,' Arohi told the crowd. For I'm never going to leave him!' with that she hugged Rahul who was smiling from ear to ear. Arjun watched them with a hard expression. His eyes suddenly cold.

So this was the girl you gave relationship advice!' said Rishi.

Unfortunately,' said Arjun before swiftly turning to leave.

Will you forgive me?' said Tara, calling Savita for the first time after their argument. I was rude,'

You were being a mother,' said Savita from other end of the line. And you are my best friend I don't mind it the slightest,'

How can I ever- but fate didn't let her complete that sentence. Somewhere outside there was a noise. I'll call you back,' Tara said urgently disconnecting the call.

She stood up startled as Arjun threw open the door.

He took a few long strides and was already walking towards his room when she had finally found her voice. In his extreme anger, or whatever other emotion it was, he had not noticed his mother waiting by the side lines.

She followed him with equal haste. Yet he disappeared in to his room in a flash. Something went down with a bang. Something else smashed with similar ear splitting noise. There was a tinkle of shattering glass before Tara finally managed to open the door. Arjun stood by the window, gripping the window base, shaking in a sudden rage that had overcame him. Between her and him the whole room lay in pieces. For once after a very long time Tara was speechless. After many years this was the first time Arjun had expressed himself to such a length. He had not yet seen her. Slowly she cleared her throat.

What happened?'

For a moment Arjun remained silent.

I felt weird,' he said after a pause. Like I was burning, like I wanted to murder...someone,' he added the last word after a thought, quickly replacing Rahul with someone.

Why?' Said Tara slowly.

Slowly Arjun recited the incident as if he was afraid of himself being ill or something and explaining his experience to a doctor.

It's nothing,' said Tara trying to smile, it felt odd. It's because she's been ignoring you obviously you were angry,'

Arjun looked at her relieved.

Really mom?'

Hmm... I'll get you some water,' said Tara leaving the room in haste.

She leaned against the wall outside his room.

Her instinct had been correct. Arjun was jealous, that meant Arjun was in love. Only one thing mattered to her anymore. Arjun has to be happy, and at the moment his happiness was Arohi, knowingly or unknowingly.

I noticed Tara is over-protective towards Arjun and his happiness than any Normal Mom or am I a over-assuming it?!🤔And Its strange but I found Rudra very cold towards his son's injury,his behaviour was way too odd for me?!😳Again Am I over-interpretating it I don't know.!!😆
Anyways I loved Arjun more than anyone else here,The way He is cracking jokes on his own injury infront of his angry mom.!!😆Its Just Too Good.!!👏 🤣Btw He did said that dying for you thing seriously...But seems Arohi always take all his words as a joke.!!🤔
