Part 66
Rashi studied the man eating his food silently in front of her and ate her noodles with disinterest.
Ever since he had come, he seemed distracted with something. When she asked him about it, he refused to share it with her now saying he didn't want to spoil the evening.
When he lifted his glass to drink water for the sixth time, she dropped the fork in her plate with a clang. This was enough for Rajveer to turn his attention to her.
"Aakhir kya baat hai Rajveer? Kabse dekh rahi hoon... agar aise chup chaap dinner karna that toh woh mein ghar pe kar leti."
With a sigh, the ACP put down his glass. Wiping his mouth with a napkin, he looked her in the eye.
"Im sorry. Actually mujhe tumse kuch jaroori baat karni thi lekin..."
The tired look on his face clenched Rashis heart. She reached across the table and covered his hand with hers.
"Mein jaanti hoon ki tum pe bohat pressure hai... but i just want you to relax. Kuch der ke liye."
Rajveer smiled at her and tightened his hold on her hand. Rashi beamed as the soft smile lit up a light on his charming face.
"Rashi..."
Butterflies swarmed in her stomach when he said her name so softly. With a bated breath she looked at him intently.
"... lets get married."
Rashis heart stopped beating and her eyes opened wide.
"I know im springing this up on you but... but i just feel that life will be easier with you besides me..."
Staring at the eyes which spoke to her more than the words uttered, a soft smile crept up on Rashis lips.
"Tum mera jawab jaante ho Rajveer..."
He gulped. He knew in his heart that she would not say no. But the confidence with which she placed her entire future in his hands, humbled him. He lifted her hand, which he was holding, and dropped a gentle kiss on her knuckles. A kiss of love... of a life-long promise... and most of all, a kiss of gratitude.
"Kya mein tumse kuch pooch sakti hoon?"
Rajveer nodded his head, too overwhelmed to speak.
"Why now?"
Rajveer looked at Rashi. He had always thought that she understood him. He had been so wrong.
This woman could read him.
And he knew he had to answer in all honesty. He gripped her hand tighter.
"Rashi... maine apni zindagi mein hamesha wohi kiya jo mujhe thik laga. Aur mujhe kisi bhi cheez ka pachtava nahi hai. Acha... bura... job hi hua, uss waqt mere liye woh sahi tha. Lekin pichle kuch dinon mein maine apni zindagi ko aur apne aapko, ek alag nazar se dekha hai."
Rashi could not divert her eyes from his face. ACP Ahluwalia barely revealed his heart to anyone, and right now she felt extremely lucky.
"Today, when i look back, i regret my behaviour towards Arjun and Arohi. I wish i had done what i could to understand them. But i was driven by anger and ego. And now, i don't want to regret anything in my life anymore."
A smile of relief spread on Rashis lips.
"In the next 4-5 days, we are working on the most crucial part of this mission. Kuch bhi hosakta hai..."
Rashi saw rajveers eyes turn dead serious.
"... aur agar mujhe kuch hona hai, toh usse pehle mein apna naam tumhare naam ke saath jodna chahta hoon."
Rashis heart skipped a beat.
Separating from Rajveer had become an impossible thought to her. She had full faith in her love and in him. But for the first time Rajveer Singh Ahluwalia had asked something from her... and she was not going to say no.
Placing her other hand on their entwined ones, Rashi looked him in the eye.
"Kal subah karle?"

Mikhail rubbed his sweaty hands against each other, his eyes scanning every corner of the room, except looking at the man sitting in front of him. He felt like an experimental mouse that was under scrutiny.
The chair in front of him stopped rocking and Rudra Pratap Singhania got up, blowing smoke from his pipe. He went towards the door and locked it... slowly.
Mikhail closed his eyes in fear even though he couldn't see him.
"I think tum jaante ho maine tumhe yaha kyu bulaya hai..."
It took him a minute to fully understand his fathers words. He opened his eyes.
The entire world knew that RPS always spoke to the point. But he never made that point himself. Right now, he wanted Mikhail to confess to whatever he was doing behind his back... before he spells it out.
Either way, Mikhail Singhania was screwed.
"Noo dad. Kya hua?"
He could hear his fathers strong foot steps on the wooden floor behind him. He could not see him but could imagine the fire flowing from his eyes.
"This coming week is very crucial... i thought you knew that."
Mikhails breathing shallowed. Has his father found out everything?????????? His mom was not here to help him out now.
Sharp heels walked towards the head of the desk and RSP sat down on his chair, his eyes trained on his sweating son.
"Crucial?? Yes yes dad... i know. This week is important."
Mikhail tried to read his fathers impassive eyes but they were unreadable as always.
"Good that you know. Toh maine tumhari kal subah ki tickets book karra di hai. The flight is at 7am."
Two envelopes landed on the table in front of Mikhail and he stared at them.
"Tickets? Kaha ki?"
"Dubai. Its a 3.5 hour flight. So you'll reach in time for the morning meeting."
Confusion numbed his brain as Mikhail tried to figure out what was happening.
"But dad..."
"No buts. If we've to close the Mafatlal deal by this week then its important that you meet their financers in Dubai and assure them of our alliance. I want to get this deal over with so that you and Gauri can get married soon."
"But but... i feel me and Gauri should get married first... and then we should do the deal."
"Pagal mat bano. Ye shaadi sirf ek natak hai... duniya ko batane ke liye ki iss rishte ki wajah se hamare businesses bhi ek ho rahe hai. Shaadi ke baad agar kuch problem hui toh? Tumhe uss Gauri ko zindagi bhar jhelna padega. Let him keep his part of the bargain, then we will keep ours."
"But dad..."
"Tum shaadi ke liye itne utaawale kyu horahe ho? Don't worry my son... jo ladki jail jaake aayi ho, usski shaadi itni aasani se nahi hoti. Gauri tumhari hi hogi. But think like a businessman, not like a romeo!"
Mikhail could not think of any other reason to argue with his father.
"Ab jao. Packing karlo... subah tumhe jaldi nikalna hai."
RPS studied the confused, resisting young man, as he got up from his chair and left the library.
One down.
With Mikhail out of the picture, it will be easy to deal with Natasha. He didnot want his stupid son to do anything irrational which will give her a chance to use him.
The soft ringing of his private line broke his train of thoughts. Rudra looked at the number on the screen and straightened in his seat. Setting his pipe on the table, he lifted the receiver.
"Tumne iss waqt kyu fone kiya?"
The response from the other end filled Rudras body with rage. His eyes and voice hardened.
"Iss baare mein hum milke baat karenge. Kal... ussi jagah pe..."
Without waiting for a response, Rudra kept the receiver with a soft click.
Taking a deep breath, he opened the bottom most drawer of his desk and stared at the contents inside.

Unseen forces gripped Arohi tightly and pulled her back. Arjuns hands stretched towards her but she was dragged behind. Arohi struggled in this alien grip and Arjun looked on shocked, his feet frozen and his hands towards her, asking her to take them and not leave him. But Arohi was weak in front of the force that was pulling her away from her Arjun. She stretched her hands towards her love to try and reach him but his image was fast fading away as Arohi got pulled into the darkness. Arjun was screaming her name and tears of helplessness started flowing down her cheeks...
Arohis eyes opened in a flash. Her breathing was laboured and she felt smothered. With a heavy feeling, she turned to her right expecting empty space.
Seeing Arjun sleeping on his stomach, his head turned towards her and his mouth open, released the knots in her stomach. She gulped her fears to find her throat dry and cupped her forehead to find it wet with sweat.
The first time she had seen this nightmare was after the chandelier incident. Then it was her life in danger, and now it was Arjuns. Yet the fear was the same.
Separating from Arjun.
It had taken all of Arjuns love and attention to make that nightmare a distant memory. But lately it had started again. Sometimes she just saw flashes of it. Sometimes she didn't remember. But the heavy numbness in her heart in the morning made her realise that she had witnessed it again.
All of a sudden she felt anger... at Natasha... at Karan... at her chachu! If only they would just arrest that b***h and put her behind bars then she would sleep peacefully. But she knew that they were right. Natasha was not the issue.
Mikhail was. Given another chance he will hire another mercenary to get rid of Arjun. And so if they had to ensure Arjuns safety, they had to reach to Mikhail.
What was her father-in-law doing??? The big and mighty Rudra Pratap Singhania! She had told him a huge secret and he was not even acting on it. Did he really not care for Arjun at all?!
This helpless feeling welled up tears in Arohis eyes. She wanted to be the vest who could protect her Arjun. She didnot care for her life... because she knew that Arjun would always protect her. And she wanted to be the same for him.
"Arohi..."
Arjuns soft voice shook Arohi out of her thoughts.
"Kya hua? Neend nahi aarahi?"
Arohi shook her head. Arjun switched on the night lamp.
"Paani chahiye..."
Arjun turned instantly towards the side table at her demand only to find it empty. He had forgotten to get a jug of water. Throwing the quilt away from his body, he got up.
"Ruko. Mein leke aata hoon."
Arohi was too tired and weak to protest. Arjun was back in moments with a glass of water.
He was unusually silent as she sipped slowly, understanding the cause of her distress. Arjun himself had been worried, not for his life but he just wanted to get it over with, so that he and Arohi can start living a normal life. His eyes scanned her pale face... she was starting to get dark circles under her eyes.
Arohi kept down the glass and moved towards Arjun. Pulling her in his embrace, he switched off the night lamp. Her head on his chest made him feel calmer and he stroked her hair till he could hear her breathing evenly.
Arjun didnot like his Arohi so quiet. Even when she was scared, she managed to chatter a lot. But this was something else. And he understood it... but he just wanted to see her happy again... completely happy.
A small light blinked next to him and he picked up his mobile. He had received a message.
He checked the time... it was 3.25am. Who was messaging him at this hour?!
I know you're awake and i know i am the reason. Call me right now... i have a deal for you.
-natasha
Arjun frowned. What is this woman playing at now??? She knows that he knows shes hired to kill him, and yet she wants to strike a deal with him?! As if things were not messed up enough...
Arjun was in two minds to leave Arohi and go down to make that call... or ignore the message and let her go to hell! His curiosity and possessiveness were at war and he had to make a decision fast.
He just hoped that it was the right decision.
