so, lovedeep has told rashi about the kitchen incident... but no one is even considering the possibility that they were never separate... that will be a massive shock for the entire paltan!

whom had rashi met? gauri... i think she is the second last person rashi wanted to meet! the last one being her taklu husband!!!

I am really short of time right now 😭 there is so much i have to read... but i promise to do it over the weekend and comment. Heres the alternate day update 😊

Part 30

Arjun kept the file down. He picked up the intercom and asked his secretary to bring him a cup of coffee. He hung up and stared at the desk. Picking up his intercom again after a minute, he told his secretary to forget it. Keeping the phone down again, Arjun got up from his chair. Striding out of his cabin, he headed towards the pantry to get the much desired coffee himself.

He needed to concentrate or he needed a distraction, he did not know. But he knew that he needed to stop thinking about Arohi, whom he had left at the house, and focus on his work, their mission. Probably the walk to the pantry would do him good and clear his mind. Consciously focussing on his surroundings, Arjun noticed the buzz at the reception which faded the moment he turned a corner in the hallway, leading to the pantry. He went inside and made himself a cup of cappuccino, putting his mind to every small and meaningless task. Picking up the steaming cup, he headed outside. He stopped at the entrance to pick up a few tissues but saw that the box was empty. Turning towards the storage, he decided to get a tissue box himself instead of employing any staff to do it.

When he was just outside the store, he heard some noises. Frowning at the odd sounds, he opened the door very slowly and peeped inside. There were a couple of huge boxes kept, which probably contained gifts from their clients, but otherwise the space was empty. He went to the cupboard where he knew he would find tissues. As his hand reached the shutter, he heard the sound again. Moving towards the back end of the room, he looked around. His feet led him to a corner, where a window to the dark storage room was half open, from where the sound seemed to originate. They had especially kept this room completely dark to store wines and imported food items which needed a certain room temperature and could not be exposed to light.

Leaning near the open shutter, he tried to look inside for any of his staff who might be trying to steal expensive goods from the store. Arjun hated such people and got instantly angry at the possiblility of it. But what he saw drove his anger to the ground and gave birth to disgust and rage.

With the help of the minimal light that was pouring inside the room, Arjun saw Mikhails secretary sitting on someones lap and doing, what can only be described as, an indecent act. Arjun hated thieves but he loathed people who used his workplace for such cheap activities. About to open the shutter fully and scream his guts out, the couple shifted in a passionate embrace and Mikhails face came into the light.

"What the f**k!" Arjun swore softly!

He was stunned, he gripped his coffee mug tight in his hands as he felt his hold loosen. He knew why Mikhail had needed an "extra" secretary, but he never thought that he will use her right here, in their office. All said and done, it was a workplace, a professional atmosphere where people earned their livelihood.

As if on cue, the girl moaned and Arjun was kicked in the gut by his senses. Turning around, he swiftly walked away. As he entered the airconditioned hallway, he felt as if he had walked into an open space with fresh air, where he could breathe. He needed to talk to someone, or Arohis thoughts and the disturbing images that he saw were going to make him all the more irritable. There was only one person who could understand him always and so Arjun walked in that direction.

Rashi had not been able to eat her lunch. Love had tried to distract her later on with her chatter but it did not work. Seeing her had not stunned Rashi as much as the entire conversation had. She had been more thoughtful than shocked. Lovedeep had not known the reason as she had arrived just after and Rashi felt this was not the right time to tell her. Her friend and their family were not so fond of this individual so she thought it the best to keep it to herself. Plus she needed some time to ponder on the conversation that happened.

FLASHBACK

Rashi kept looking, unable to do anything else. The initial shock had frozen her but she managed to compose herself.

In front of her, with an epitome of innocence on her face, was Gauri. To any passer by, she was a simple sweet pretty looking girl, meeting a long lost friend. Only Rashi knew how much sweet and simple she was. Rising from her chair, Rashi faced the woman who was responsible for turning her entire life around.

"Kaisi ho Rashi?"

Rashi was silent. She continued to stare at her. Gauris smile slipped.

"I know tum mujhe dekhke khush nahi ho. Khush toh kya I might be the last person on this earth that you want to see. But believe me Rashi I'm really really sorry for whatever happened."

"Believe you???" That's all Rashi could manage right now!

Guilt and shame flashed on Gauris face and she lowered her eyes. Her fingers were twisting into each other as she kept staring at the ground. After many silent minutes, Gauri looked up at Rashi, her eyes swimming in tears. "I know its very difficult for you or anyone to believe me. Lekin mein sach keh rahi hu. Mein… mein sachme sharminda hoon." Gauris eyes lowered again as she silently sobbed. Rashi was stunned. Her brain told her to not believe this woman but her soft heart softened more when she noticed the genuine regret in her eyes. Taking a deep breath she calmed herself down.

Gauri looked at her and then at the chair behind and asked, "Can I?"

Rashi nodded and they both moved to sit at the table which Rashi had occupied before. Picking up a tissue, Gauri dabbed her eyes. She looked up shocked, as Rashi offered her a glass of water. Relieved with the gesture, she took the glass and drank from it. Rashi continued to look at her, observe her. She did not want to react right now, so sitting back in her chair she waited for Gauri to continue.

FLASHBACK ENDS

A soft knock brought Rashi back to the present. Arjuns head peeped in from the door and he walked in.

"Hi…" Arjun smiled at his sister and sat opposite her. "Coffee???" He raised his mug in question.

Rashi shook her head. Pointing at her own cup on the table, she smiled.

"Lunch kiya?" Arjun asked her. Rashi stiffened remebering her lunch episode. She nodded.

"Tumne?"

"Haan… Mein ghar se hi karke aaya tha."

"Arohi kaisi hai?"

Now it was Arjuns turn to stiffen. His thoughts took him back to him wife, who was at home, alone… well alone without him! Shaking his head to focus on the conversation, he tried to force a smile.

"Thik hai. Kalse she'll also start working. Ghar pe baithke bore ho jaayegi."

"Hmmm…"

Rashi studied her pensive brother. There was something on his mind but she could not figure out what. Should she tell him about Gauri? Probably not. He already had many things to think about. Plus him and Arohi were back together now. He should concentrate on his wife and unborn child. And it was not something major to inform him immediately. This news can wait.

Arjun watched as he saw the fleeting emotions in Rashis eyes. What was she thinking? Arjun had been careless about Rashi for the past few days. He had seen her speedy recovery and her extra ordinary confidence which made him feel that she doesn't need him to mother her anymore. However, he could not forget that she was still in a fragile state emotionally. He had thought of sharing the Mikhail episode with her but then dismissed the idea from his head. It was not something important or unusual. This news can wait.

Finishing off his coffee, he got up from his chair. "Ok then… I'll go back to work. Shaam ko saath mein ghar jaayenge?"

Rashi smiled at him and nodded. She watched as her brother exited the cabin, leaving her to her thoughts again. Was she really better off not telling him???

FLASHBACK

Gauri gulped as she looked at the strong confident woman in front of her. She totally contradicted the soft sweet sister who was pleading with Arohi that day to give her brother a chance. That was the last that Gauri had seen Rashi.

"Mein nahi jaanti ki mujhe tumse maafi maangne ka bhi haq hai ya nahi. Lekin jab maine tumhe yaha dekha toh mujhse raha nahi gaya. Maine jo bhi kiya tha woh ek sochi samjhi chaal nahi thi, it was something that I did at the spur of the moment. Warna meri tumse koi dushmani nahi thi. I was mad with jealousy and pain." Rashi could see how difficult it was for Gauri to accept her mistakes. But she had learnt not to take people at face value anymore. She had had her share of bad luck to repeat her mistakes. She maintained her silence, unnerving Gauri and forcing her to continue.

"Maine hamesha Arjun se pyar kiya tha, but he didn't return my feelings. Woh hamesha kehta tha ki he doesn't believe in love and marriage. Aur maine apne aap ko samjha liya tha, firbhi I fell in love with him. Jab usse pata chala toh usne mujhse milna band kiya. I was hurt but I was still ok. Lekin jab he fell in love with Arohi, I felt cheated. Jo insaan kehta tha he doesn't believe in love, is ready to die for a girl? Aur woh bhi woh ladki jo usse kuch din pehle tak nafrat karti thi??? Woh ladki jisne mujhe yakeen dilaya ki Arjun is not worth my love!!! Woh ladki jo meri dost thi… my best friend! "

Rashi looked at Gauri as her eyes showed a hint of the pain and rage that she went through. When she put it this way, it sounded like she was a jilted lover, not a cold blooded murderer.

"And to top that, he wanted ME to help him win Arohi back. What an irony!!!" Gauri let out a sarcastic laugh, her eyes trained on the table top. "Pata nahi mujhe kya hogaya tha! Maine kabhi kisise itni nafrat nahi ki hai. Kabhi kisiko nuksaan nahi pohanchaaya hai. In fact jab Rajveer ka rishta mere liye aaya tha, tab bhi maine haan kar di thi ye sochke ki I will learn to love him. But even he didn't love me! Usske liye ye shaadi to ek compromise thi, jo ussne bohat pehle clear kardiya tha. And I was totally shattered. Jisse mein pyaar karti thi usse shadi nahi kar payi aur jisse shaadi karrahi thi woh mujhse pyar nahi karta tha!"

Tears again filled Gauris eyes. Rashi saw the young confused girl in front of her. Emotionally she was very weak, she had depended on Arjun first, and then Rajveer. And both had let her down. Not that they were at fault, but then neither was she. Even Rashi had trusted Jignesh and he had let her down. The only difference was that Rashi did not seek revenge, and Gauri had. She was a victim of unfortunate situations and probably unlucky in love.

"Gusse mein aake maine kasam khayi ki agar Arjun mera nahi ho saka toh Arohi ka bhi nahi hoga! Aur usske liye mujhe jo thik laga maine kiya. Lekin jab uss din maine Arohi ko tumhare samne pighalte huey dekha toh mein dar gayi. I panicked and at the spur of the moment… I…" Gauri stopped when she noticed Rashi grip the spoon on the table tight in her hand. She lowered her head once again.

"Main jaanti hu tum mujhe kabhi maaf nahi kar paaogi. I don't expect you to. But I hope you can believe that I'm genuinely sorry. Itne mahine jail mein rehne ka baad mujhe apni galti ka ehsaas hua hai. I don't have any hard feelings for Arjun or Arohi too. I guess im unlucky in love and relationships. I've lost everything, my love, my reputation and the one and only best friend i had." Gauri sighed in resignation. "I just want to rebuild my life now and I want to start it with accepting my mistakes and apologising for them. Mein jaanti hu sab pehle jaisa nahi ho sakta but really want to try. I am thankful to Mikhail for bailing me out. Mein jaanti hu ussne ek business deal ki hai lekin it is still a favour for me. Aur mein ye favour kabhi nahi bhulungi."

Rashi was still silent when Gauri got off the chair and started to leave. She stopped and turned around. "Once again… I am sorry. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me." Gauri walked away, leaving Rashi to ponder on what she said. Rashi was still in a haze when Lovedeep came huffing and gasping, apologising for being late.

FLASHBACK ENDS

Traces of the haze refused to leave Rashi alone. She rocked back and forth in her office chair, staring at the ceiling. Only one question had plagued her mind for a while now.

"Should she believe her???"
