Chapter 8,
Arjun drove to Arohi's office to hand in the leaving notice. He parked his car and walked in towards the receptionist. "Is Arohi here?" "No sir, ma'am hasn't arrived today" Arjun rolled his eyes and under his breath he mumbled "Must be recovering from a hangover. She got a bit too carried away from yesterday!" "Did you say something sir?" Arjun looked at the receptionist and cleared his throat. "No, you must be hearing things" Turning away from the awkward scene, Arjun walked towards Arohi's office. He opened the door and walked over to the desk. Arjun re-looked at the leaving notice paper in his hand and he took a deep breath. "What i'm doing is right, i no longer want to work here." He placed the notice down on Arohi's desk and looked around the four walls for the last time in the office. "Goodbye terrible memories. I wont miss you" Arjun let out a chuckle and walked away...
It was the same afternoon and Arohi had just woken up with the hard stroke of sunlight bang onto her face. She used her hands to cover up her face from being attacked by the lethal light. "Argh! Whoever's opened the bloody blinds close them now!" Arohi just about managed to open her eyes through the strong beam, and she lifted herself off her bed. "This stupid damn hangover, my heads killing" Arohi turned her body slightly and just as she looked up, her mom, Santosh, stood there before her eyes with her hands up on her hips and a smirk playing on her lips. Arohi narrowed her eyes and stared at her mom. "Mom, why on earth did you have to wake me up. I've got such a bad headache" "Hmm, headache huh? Or do you mean a hangover from last night?" Arohi looked down in shame and said "Mom i can explain-" "No need for that love, i know it wasn't your fault. That Arjun wasn't a good guy, and it's best you stay away from him. And don't worry, your dad told him to keep his distance and he agreed." Arohi's jaw dropped "HE AGREED???? What do you mean he agreed!" Arohi's mom walked over to her and sat down on the bed beside her. Putting her hand on Arohi's shoulder, Santosh said "Don't worry beti, did you see what a state he put you in! Yesterday dadi ma and your dad told him his position and he didn't even care! He just agreed to leave you and he walked out the house! Would you ever want a man like that in your life? Seriously?" Arohi narrowed her eyes with her mouth wide open and she shook her head at her mother. "What the actual hell is wrong with everyone!" In anger, Arohi stood up and walked over to the window and faced the view outside. She placed her head in her palm and closed her eyes taking deep breaths. Opening her eyes again, she faced her mother. "Mom, why can't you just leave me alone? In fact, not just you! Everyone! Your all after me, 'Oh this guy's not right for you, that guys a alcoholic, that guy smoke, that guy's poor' well you know what mom, i dont bloody care! Whatever is between me and Arjun, stays between us! And no one of you had the right to talk to my boyfriend like that! Ever! And, instead of shouting at him, you should be thanking him for bringing me home last night...anything could have happened to me but still he brought me home! Your'e all so unbelievable"
Arohi rushed into her en-suite bathroom and locked herself in so she could escape from all the chaos happening around her. She leaned herself on the back of the door and slowly slid down, making her sit down onto the bathroom floor. Closing her eyes slowly, she thought to herself, 'How could this all happen within one night and i didn't know anything about it?' Arohi at times began to hate her family, all they did was become over protective of her. She was fully grown up, she made her own success and she knew how to look after herself. It all started getting to her. And just to top everything off, her family had already gone and insulted Arjun when he wasn't at fault for everything. "Oh god, I have to ring Arjun! I have to apologize on behalf of my stupid family!" Arohi stood up in hurry and unlocked the bathroom door. Rushing out, she let out a sigh of relief knowing her mom had left the room. She must have got the hint to get out by Arohi's behavior. Locking her bedroom door, Arohi grabbed her phone and sat down on her bed. She stared at her phone for a few seconds and then bit her lip. "What am i doing! Why am i all of a sudden stressing over a phone call. I mean common, it's just Arjun!" Arohi smiled confidently and just as she dialed in his number, she began getting second thoughts. Erasing out all the numbers from the phone she rolled her eyes. "I'm such a idiot! God, please help -" All of a sudden Arohi's mobile began to ring with the name 'Arjun' flashing on the screen. Arohi stood up with shock and smiled, "Oh my lord, god listened to me!"
"Hello?" Arohi stumbled her words, in a nervous tone. "Arohi, i want to speak to you." Arohi bit her lip hearing the angry tone in Arjun's voice. "Actually, Arjun...i want to speak to you about something too" She got a two second pause from the other side of phone until she heard, "Fine, you tell me first. What have you got to say to me?" Arohi closed her eyes and let out a sigh. "Arjun, i apologize on behalf of my families behavior last night. Even though i wasn't in my senses, i know what happened. I know you must be angry and-" "Arohi, i'm leaving the job. I don't want to work for you, i don't want to pretend to be your boyfriend, and i don't want to lie to your brother and family! I've left my resignation letter on your desk. That's all i wanted to say!" Arohi's jaw dropped. "NO, don't hang up the phone Arjun! I said, i'm sorry! There's no need to leave the job! I mean, it was your idea after all about you and me acting as a couple! Please, you cant leave me to pick up the remaining pieces... please" Arjun narrowed his eyes and put his hand on his head. "Arohi, lets just tell everyone the truth, that we aren't together. I work for you! Im not your boyfriend!" "No Arjun you can't do that, you dont understand! I will make a huge loss in my career. Please! Just give it one more month. We pretend to be a couple, and if things still stay like this yo can freely walk away. I won't say no, nothing! I wont stop you"
Arjun was so angry. He couldn't believe he agreed to Arohi about staying. But it was just one month deal and he knew this wouldn't make a difference. Arjun walked out of his house and placed himself into his car. "Shit! I'm late, Karan must be waiting for me! Dammit!" Arjun quickly drove towards Lentus Cafe where Karan was waiting for him. Karan, Arjun's childhood friend from America, came to visit him as he was staying in India for two weeks. It had be eight years since they had seen each other. Arjun arrived at the cafe and walked inside just to see Karan sitting on the table looking at his watch. He still had those looks from when he was young. Girls used to drool over him, he was that popular in school and college days. Arjun smiled and walked over to the table. Karan looked up at Arjun and smiled. "My man's here!" He stood up and gave Arjun a long manly hug. "Bro, why didn't you tell me! Your in a relationship with Arohi Sharma!" Arjun couldn't believe his ears. "Karan, what did you just say?" Karan laughed it off and repeated, "Why didn't you tell me you and Arohi Sharma were a couple? AND don't ask me where i heard that from! The news has already reached America.." Arjun's eyes were wide open like a owl. He shot up his seat and clenched his fists. "Karan, be right back!" Arjun left the table immediately leaving Karan confused and shocked.
"Arohi Sharma! How the hell did you think you could hide this one away from me!" Arohi was so confused on the other side of the phone call. "Listen Arjun, i don't know what your on about!" Arjun grinded his teeth and narrowed his eyes in anger. "Arohi, since when has our so called 'NEWS' reached America! Freaking hell, now the whole world will come to know that all of a sudden a 'WORKER' has not become a 'BOYFRIEND' of such a big 'CELEB'! Murder me now Arohi!" Arohi burst out laughing, "Oh Arjun! Seriously chill man! I said give it a month, everything will be fine!" Arjun was so angry he just cut the call. He walked back in towards the cafe and sat down. Karan couldn't miss the stressed out look on his face. "Arjun what's wrong?" Arjun rested his head on his hand and sighed, "Nothing bro, just stupid things! Anyways forget about me! Tell me, how's everything with you? Hows America!" Arjun and Karan talked and filled up their missed times with each other. They had always been best friends until Karan had to move to America as his father set up his business there. Everything changed since then, but they had always been in touch with each other.
Arjun was driving back home after a few hours of spending time with his friend. As he drove he got a phone call from Arohi. Arjun rolled his eyes and picked up the call, "What do you want?" "Arjun i have to go to one of my music signing party. And Abhi is constantly doing my head in about you coming with me!" "WHAT! Are you kidding me!" "Arjun, please just come, Abhi has already suspected something going on. Just wait outside the gates at half six and pick me up." Arjun smacked his hand on the steering wheel and mumbled under his breath, "Damn! Fine, i'll be there." Arjun arrived home and walked into his house. Sheetal and Khushi sat on the couch watching TV and laughing around until they saw Arjun walk in. "Bhaiya! Your back!" Khushi ran into Arjun's arms and hugged him tight. Sheetal stood up and walked toward Arjun. "Bhai, where have you been all day, the house is so boring without you!" Arjun put his arm around Sheetal as well as Khushi and smiled. "Mere Pyaare Behno, i'm sorry! You see, Bhai's been really busy! And i have to go to a party soon" As he spoke to them, he walked his sisters towards the couch and sat them down. "Party? What party?" Arjun looked at Sheetal and looked down. "I'm going to a party with Arohi, i wasn't going to go but because of the circumstances...i have to" Sheetal shook her head and sighed. "Okay, fine bhai...its okay. No need to look disappointed, i'm not angry" Sheetal smiled and then linked her arm around Arjun's. "Khushi! Lets go raid bhai's cupboard and pick out the clothes needs to wear for tonight!" Khushi and Sheetal ran out of Arjun's arms towards his bedroom and left Arjun sitting alone on the couch.
Why am i doing this for her. She's nobody to me, but i still have that unknown emotion inside me to connects me to her. Everything she's said, I've done, when nobody can tell me what to do. And tonight, their will be hundreds of people seeing us together and so many talks will be happening around us. But why don't i seem to care anymore? I'm not afraid anymore of what people will say about us. From today, i will look after her, protect her, stop people from harming her, and within this one month, i will act like her boyfriend. I have this one month to improve everything, get all the gossip away from the public, and i will live my life in piece. One month, just one month...
