PART 35

'Officer, I have been waiting here for the past two hours. I have to meet Ms. Arohi Ahluwalia.' 'I told you..' 'Yes, I know you told me to take permission from the officer out there. He told me to come to you. And from the past two hours I've been doing that. But now I've had enough.' 'You are talking to a police officer young man. Do you understand that?' Sanchit heaved a sigh of relief. He had to get this right. If he didn't get permission everything would go wrong. 'Sorry sir.' 'Hmm.. you may go and meet her. But just for 10 minutes. Go now.'

I was sitting inside my cell. Lifeless. Almost lifeless. I couldn't cry any longer either. My tears had dried up it seemed. I had accepted the new turn that my life had taken. I was alive only on the beautiful memories that I had with everyone in my life. I didn't want to carry those bitter memories with me now where my family was against me. I had turned a blind eye to it. 'Arohi.. Arohi..' I was jerked back to reality as I heard someone call my name. it seemed he had been trying to get my attention since a very long time. 'Sanchit? How come you are here?!' 'I've been trying to get to you since the past two hours. Look Arohi, I know there are bad times we have to face in our life. But you know you can do this. I know you are strong enough to go through this. I'm here for you. I'll help you get out of here.' I shook my head in refusal. 'There is nothing you can do now Sanchit. I have lost that file somewhere. Its all destined. I had to be here. I am meant to be behind bars. It was my irresponsibility. Gauri was right. I should have worked under someone for sometime more.' 'Arohi. We both know it wasn't your fault so stop that nonsense. I'm here to boost up your morale. Its not just me but Simmi, Romit and even Shefali. We all believe in you. And you forgot Purvi di and Salil jeeju?! We're all here for you.' I smiled at him half heartedly. 'And Arjun. he'll be back tomorrow, remember. 15 days are over. You'll be out of here very soon. Be strong till then Arohi.' I started crying hearing hearing Arjun's name after so long. The tears that seemed to have dried up come rushing down as soon as he uttered Arjun's name.

'Meeting time over now.' 'I need to go Arohi. But I will come back soon. And where did you usually keep your files?' I nodded at him. 'In the office. there a drawer at the left hand side of my table. All project files are usually stacked there.'

'So how is Arohi?' Sanchit shook his head in refusal. 'Horrbile Romit. I don't believe all this is happening to her. She was the most warm hearted person ever. Who could do such harm to her?!' Romit slapped Sanchit's back. 'Don't worry dude. Things happen for a reason. If something has gone wrong it is because something was left to be placed right. Don't worry she'll be out soon.' 'I told her that. I hope she remains strong for some more time atleast.'

'Arohi.. How could you? I had faith in you. I had confidence in you. But you let me down. You've disappointed me. God has punished you for that. You deserve to be in this jail for what you have done.' 'Arjun! not you. Please not you. I thought you'd trust me. I thought you'd believe in me. Nobody's here Arjun. Please believe me when I say I didn't do it.' 'After all the proof I have here. How can I Arohi?' I started crying hysterically as I heard that. That was the last statement I could take in. I hadn't imagined Arjun would do this. I had thought he would trust me. But it seemed he didn't care about me now. He didn't care that I was stuck here in jail for the wrong accusations. He didn't care to know the truth. I saw his retreating figure and I stretched out my hand to hold him. 'Arjun..!' I shouted. But to no avail. 'Arjun!' this time it was loud and clear. I looked around. I was sweating profusely. It was a dream. A bad one. I heaved a sigh of relief. Arjun would be back today. Would he trust me? Would he believe that I was innocent?

'Arohi.. Arohi.. mom.. where is she? I thought she'd come running into my arms as soon as I land on the airport. But I didn't find her there. I went to the office I thought she'd be busy with her new project. But she wasn't there either. And to top it all madam has switched off her mobile phone. Phew! She seriously makes me work hard.' Arjun couldn't understand why everyone was behaving like this. 'Chahcu.. Rajveer??!' he literally went and shook him frantically. 'Can anyone atleast tell me what is wrong? Where is my Arohi?' 'Arjun. I will tell you what happened here in your absence.' Sanchit told him everything about the mishap. About not finding the file. About Arohi's arrest. About the Ahluwalia's not believing her. Arjun was scared. How would his Arohi be now? why didn't she call him? Why didn't they believe her? 'Where is daddu?!' Arjun left the room without talking to anyone or without uttering anything apart from one question.

He rushed into daddu's room without knocking. 'How could you? You claim to love your grand-daughter the most. You claim to know her the best. You agree with me that she couldn't have anything to do with all this. Then why didn't you say anything.' 'Arjun, calm down.' 'I will not. Daddu I am very angry right now. At you the most.' 'Listen to me atleast. I didn't say anything or I didn't support her because I had no proof. Whatever was put in front of me proved that she was guilty.' Arjun looked shocked. 'You don't need proof daddu you just need belief. Belief in your love. I never expected this from you daddu.' Arjun was about to leave when daddu interrupted him. He put a file in front of him. The file showed the wrong usage of concrete used. The proportions were wrong. It seemed Gauri had notified it and signed for Arohi to have a look at it before it is passed out. But Arohi had canceled it and signed there. Which meant she agreed to that usage. Which proved her guilty. Which proved that she had actually signed on it. how could she. 'I don't believe any stupid paper placed in front of me daddu. I believe in my love. I believe in Arohi. I know she wouldn't do anything stupid.' 'Then why didn't she say so when this was placed in front of her. I had asked her myself. She could've confided in me. I would've fought for her.' 'She didn't say anything because she thought you of all the people would believe in her. That you won't even bother questioning her. That you would have faith in her. But I guess my Arohi was wrong in judging people. As always.' 'Where are you going?' 'Where my place is. Next to Arohi's. I will fight for her.' 'You believe she is innocent?' 'I know she is. Its just a matter of time that you'll will know it too. I'm just disappointed that she didn't tell me about all this before.' Arjun walked out of the Ahluwalia house with a pledge in mind that he'd never step in here without Arohi next to him.
