Heey!!
Sorry for the late update, I have finals next week so I have just been trying to study... But nonetheless, here is an update. Hope you guys like it! Let me know what you think!! ----As the song came to a close, Prem pulled Heer close and Heer could feel her heart rate go out of control. She put her hand on his face as he pulled her even closer. As she closed her eyes she heard a loud thump and they sprung apart.
The cat right between the two of them and Prem picked it up. He saw the fear in Heer's eyes and put the cat closer to her face and Heer shrieked, "You are evil."
Prem laughed and took the cat to the garage and laughed when he saw what was there, "Heer, do you want to go to the wedding?"
"Really badly, you know that." Heer followed the voice wondering what Prem was up to.
"The good thing about being stranded in a rich man's farmhouse, he has a car or two just laying around." Prem checked the cars and both of them were out of gas, but on the corner was a small scooter.
Prem cleaned the scooter and found the keys next to the other keys inside next to God. He turned it on and to his surprise it worked. Heer laughed, Bani and Armaan had tried hard but they were destined to go the wedding, "Let's go."
Heer sat down behind Prem and held on the side rail praying she wouldn't fall down.
Prem laughed, "Heer, don't be stupid. Just hold on to me."
Heer rolled her eyes, "All you guys need is a chance to flirt."
"We don't even need a chance, it just comes out." Prem closed the garage after going out.
Within minutes they were at the venue of the wedding, had they walked they would have gotten there in time as well. Prem offered Heer his hand and Heer smiled and took it gladly. The news about the two of them would spread all over the place after this wedding, something Heer was rather cautious about, especially after knowing this relationship might not go anywhere.
Prem introduced Heer as his girlfriend to all of his work buddies and the wives took Heer into their circle gladly. Heer saw the happiness surround her and felt tears in her eyes. Prem put his hand around Heer knowing what she was feeling. During the bidaai, Heer felt the pain of the dad since the mom had passed away years ago, without even knowing the girl for more than five minutes.
"Why is it so sad?" Heer put her head on Prem's shoulders.
"Some beautiful things in life are meant to be so we appreciate the ones that are not." Prem said it in a matter of fact way.
"And you say you don't believe in love," Heer didn't want to get into an argument at the moment so she put her hand on Prem's mouth before he could say anything else, "Just enjoy the moment."
Prem looked at the dad who stood there for a few more minutes at having departed from their daughter, "Is this what we will go through when Bani leaves?"
"No, we will have each other to get us through the pain, and anyway I will make sure we see her at least once every few days." Heer put her head on Prem's shoulder. "I feel so old Prem, it is as if we have already lived our entire life."
"Are you kidding? We have so much left to do and we are going to make the best of it." Prem kissed Heer's forehead softly. Prem was not sure what he felt for Heer but it was definitely something real.
Heer looked up suddenly filled with hope for a bright future.
By the time they got back home on the scooter, Heer's hair was a mess and she had fallen asleep sitting behind Prem. Prem softly picked turned around and picked her up and took her inside the house where Bani and Armaan were sitting and smiling.
Prem went and put Heer on her bed, making sure she doesn't wake up and then walked back to Armaan and Bani.
Armaan and Bani were sitting their with a huge mocking smile on their face, "Go ahead thank us"
Prem smiled but he wasn't going to thank them for anything, "All you guys did was stop the bike, I was the one who was romantic. Why would I thank you for anything? Actually, thank Jai for having a bike in his garage, made it easier to go to the wedding."
Bani frowned, "You guys went to the wedding? What about the dinner we set up for you guys in the living room?"
"Didn't see it…" Prem felt a little bad that Bani and Armaan put in so much work and they didn't even get to enjoy it fully. "Sorry..."
Bani was still annoyed but Armaan patted her in the back, "It's okay. Did you guys have fun though?"
"Yes, we did. Thanks to you guys and I promise I will cook dinner tomorrow because we didn't get to eat the dinner the two of you made." Prem didn't know what he was getting himself into.
"Bhaiya you have never cooked before," Bani didn't want to tell him that they had just ordered the dinner not make it.
"Well first time for everything and anyway what can be more romantic then me making dinner for Heer?" Prem set out to take a look in the kitchen and came back "Ummm… you guys want to help me?"
"Bhaiya… you are crazy," Bani got up and hugged Prem for being so cute without even trying at times.
"I will take that as a compliment," Prem said as he hugged Bani back, "You know Heer and I were talking about your bidaai today and how sad it will be to see you go."
"I am not going anywhere though, just a ten minute drive and don't worry our Friday night dinners are still intact. I promise." Bani said as she pulled Armaan into the hug.
"Group hug without me?" Heer said as she came down the stairs and joined them.
"It's all of us! Let's play a game." Bani said as all of them sat down.
Prem shook his head, "Bani, last time I played a game you suggested, we had an emotional breakdown."
"You call that an emotional breakdown?" Heer was furious but from his smile, she knew he was kidding.
"Oh sweetheart, of course not!" Prem kidded but was hit by three pillows at the same time.
A few minutes later, Bani and Armaan slyly excused themselves, leaving Prem and Heer alone to talk to each other.
Prem looked really tensed and Heer forgot about her own worry about tomorrow, "What's wrong?"
"Sorry, just a case came up today." Prem had finished his education to become a lawyer while doing work for a civil engineer. Him and Heer had gone to the same law school and he had made sure Heer got all the resources possible.
"Oh, well I got my first case today too. They emailed me about it and it seems like a nasty one." Heer was tensed as it was her first case, "But luckily, I am supporting the innocent."
"I am not. It is my job to support any client that the government decides to assign me. But this bas***d needs to be in jail and rot to die." Prem gripped the steering wheel.
"Why don't you drop it? You already work for a firm, you don't have to take the case." Heer had just started to work for a different firm.
"I am not, in my contract it states I have to do at least 2 free bono cases a year that the government assigns." Prem wondered how he was going to approach the convict.
"Oh. I think that has always been the worst part of public attorneys, they don't always get to pick who they want to support." Heer wondered what the case was about but knew it would be breach of privacy for the victim and the guilty party.
"What is your case about?" Prem decided to divert the attention from his case.
Heer decided to give the basics of the case as that was not against any privacy bound contracts she had signed, "Seventeen year old has been repeatedly drugged by a doctor that claims to be giving her medical injections. While under the influence of the drugs, they forced her to take pictures and create videos that have been published all over the internet."
Prem turned around and seemed really tensed, "You can't take this case."
"I have to Prem, she is an innocent 17 year old and she deserves justice." Heer was surprised Prem would even suggest something like this.
"But Heer, you don't understand. The doctor, I am his attorney."
Prem and Heer just looked at each other for a few seconds. Prem had no choice, he had to take the case and give it his best even if it meant releasing the damn bas***d.
Heer didn't need time to make up her mind, "I have already taken the case and intend on winning it. I know you are going to do everything to free him and that you have never lost a case before which is why this will be ten times harder. But I can't just let that poor girl and her family down."
"I understand, but give someone else. This will get personal Heer. Every time I support the guilty, I come home and when I see myself in the mirror I see the devil. Until now only I saw the devil but from the day this case starts you will see it every time you look at me." Prem really did not want Heer to take the case but he knew that she would not budge from her decision. Once she had decided that she was going to do it, she was going to do it.
"Prem, I won't. We will keep professional and personal lives completely different. Now let's not discuss the case without the approval of our clients. Instead, let's just go and rest." Heer tried to put the case in the back of her mind but she knew the future was going to bring it back like a big storm.
