Surprise.. Found it my draft box as I was clearing out mails, so posting it...
15. Friends
“Have you reached the airport?” Heer asked him as she unlocked her door.
“Yea I’ve just checked in. Are you home?” He asked her.
“Just came in. I’m planning to do some cooking. Kripa messaged they won’t be back for dinner but it’ll help us rest of the week.” She said checking the fridge.
“Hmm” He replied.
“Get back to your emails Prem” She knew he wasn’t paying attention.
“I’ll call you once I reached.” He cut the call.
Heer was happy with her the dishes she made. She loaded the dishwasher and went to freshen up. She settled on the sofa with her dinner watching Bake Off.
Angad and Kripa walked in.
“You left the door open” Angad said as they joined her on the sofa.
“Ah I was on call with Prem when I came” She must have been distracted.
“Do you guys want to eat something?” Heer asked them.
“We had a late lunch Heer. I’m still feeling a bit full.” Angad wasn’t hungry.
“Ok I made some salad if you want something light. It’s all in the kitchen if you feel like eating a bit later” Heer showed Kripa where everything was.
“Looks like you have cooked quite a lot... missing him already” Kripa was surprised to see so many dishes.
“Yea it was a good distraction, kept me occupied for a while.” Heer was embarrassed. Her mobile was ringing and she excused herself as she saw the caller’s name.
“In hotel now, what were you saying earlier?” He asked her.
“Nothing... I went overboard with cooking trying to distract myself” She said.
“Hmm hasn’t been a day yet and you have already gone crazy” Prem said cheekily.
“Ok bye” She was ready to cut the call.
“Ok fine I’ll stop. Just freeze them, would save us some time next week. Preet is back next week, isn’t it? He might want to take some” He offered her some solutions.
“That’s not a bad idea. What time are you coming on Saturday?” She questioned.
“Yea about that, they’ve cancelled my return flight.” Before he can continue further, she cut him.
“What? Really? Aren’t they supposed to give an alternative?” She ranted on.
“I’m flying back Friday evening to city airport. Should be there by 7pm I guess” He said in one go to calm her down.
“That’s great.” She was happy.
“It worked out better. I can see you earlier now.” He said. Though they tried to be normal about it, they both knew how hard it is for them to be apart.

As soon as the door opened, Angad went
“Ah I was about to send a search party. Where have you guys been?” It was almost 10:00pm and he was worried that the girls haven’t been home yet. He hugged Kripa.
“Sorry Angad. We were so engrossed in our talks that we didn’t realise we took a wrong train and then we did a full circle. There was no network underground.” Heer explained him in detail.
“We thought so.” Angad told them how Prem called and assured him that they might be on train as they were not answering calls.
“Yea I spoke to him just before we took the train.” Heer told him.
“Anyways did you get everything you wanted? Should I heat food?” He asked.
“Yea the collection wasn’t that great but we did manage to get something.” Kripa said.
“You guys didn’t tell me she’s a famous stylist” Heer was unaware of Kripa’s profession. When they talked, all she told her was she was an editor of a magazine. There was no mention of fashion.
When Heer realised she didn’t have anything ethnic to wear to reception on Sunday, she asked Kripa to meet her after office to go shopping. She was aware of few places where she would get clothes but wanted company to help her pick.
“Ah did she not tell you?” Angad thought they would have talked about it and hence the shopping trip.
“I can’t believe it. I must have looked like a fool” Heer explained Angad how few girls in a shop were fawning over Kripa and she had to google to find out who she was.
“Imagine me taking her out shopping in India, it’s crazy.” Angad replied.
“Stop it you too... I’m not a celebrity or anything, just known to few people who follow my work.” Kripa said humbly.
“Google doesn’t think so. Besides you have a blue tick so you’re technically a celebrity” Angad teased her.
“I know who to reach out to for shopping now. I don’t care how busy you are, you’ll help me with the wedding trousseau when I’m in India.” Heer almost ordered Kripa.
“It’s my duty as your sis-in-law.” Kripa obliged. Kripa didn’t have any siblings but she considered Prem her brother ever since she met Angad. They found each other because of Prem and he was instrumental in making Angad’s parents agree to their marriage considering the different backgrounds they come from. She might the editor of a reputed fashion magazine now but she was a girl from a small town once. It took lot of hard work and courage to reach where she is now and meeting Angad was the best part of her journey.
“Fashion and finance... how did you guys even meet? Prem told me yours was love marriage as well but I thought you were classmates” Heer thought so as both knew Prem.
“Now that’s an interesting story.” Angad lit up as he recalled how they met.
“I was actually was flying from Bombay to Delhi on my first ever assignment. You wouldn’t believe it was my first flight experience as well and guess who was next to me” Kripa looked at Heer in askance.
“Angad” Heer assumed it must have been Angad.
“No such luck. It was your dear husband Prem” Angad responded.
“Yes I was very nervous and he probably sensed that. He kept asking me random questions to divert my mind and I didn’t even realise when the flight took off. It made sense then that he was trying to help me. I thanked him and we started to talk properly. I told him it was my first time in Delhi. He gave me Angad’s number in case I needed any help in Delhi. Destiny has its way, I did need some help and reached out to Angad. Rest is history.” Kripa smiled looking at Angad.
“We met because of him but more than that he supported us through our journey. He made my parents realise how wonderful Kripa was and what they were missing out on.” Angad might fool around Prem but he will always cherish Prem for what he did and does.
“Beware Heer, he is the third wheel of your relationship” Kripa joked knowing their friendship.
“I did realise that long back.” Heer recollected how Prem never avoided his call.
“OMG.. check the time, we better go to sleep. Don’t you need to go to office tomorrow.” Angad questioned Heer.
“Nope I’m working from home. However I might leave around 6pm so take the key if you’re heading somewhere.” She gave a secret smile to Kripa who understood.

“I’m waiting for my bags Heer” He said unsure of why she’s texting him every 10 min to know where he was.
As he headed towards exit, he saw a familiar face in the crowd.
“What are you doing here?” He said as he hugged her.
“To pick you up obviously. I couldn’t wait till you get home.” Heer replied.
“Thanks... I was kind of hoping you were here” He said as they headed towards parking.
Once they settled in the car,
“No more trips. I’m not going anywhere at least for a month or so.” He declared knowing his work wouldn’t allow more than that.
“Really? No honeymoon for a month then” Heer joked.
“Probably longer as you haven’t decided on a place yet.” It didn’t amuse him.
“Chill... I can relax once Preet kicks of new project. We’ll plan something then.” Heer assured him.
“Hmm... how are Angad and Kripa?” Prem asked her. Rest of the journey Heer filled him up on what happened in his absence.

Heer made tea while Prem went to freshen up. As he came out, he saw the table laid out with tea, cake and cookies.
"Wow wasn't I just away for 2/3 days?" He asked surprised at the welcome he was receiving.
"I got Kripa addicted to Bake off as well so she baked some cookies while I did the cake." She smiled.
"Where are they?" He asked as he settled himself in a chair next to her, snatching the cookie she has been munching on.
Before she could scold him, they heard the door opening. Angad and Kripa were happy to see Prem.
"Just in time for tea" Heer said as she got up to get more cups.
Once Prem and Angad discussed the trip details, Angad turned to Heer and said
"Are you ready for the madness on Sunday, Heer? He asked her knowing its going to be the first time Prem would bring a plus one.
"I was thinking... " Prem said before Heer could respond.
Noticing their attention on him, Prem continued..
"Lets have a small party here tomorrow. I know a few are already here and rest will be there by morning, so we can catch up for dinner and Heer you can invite your friends as well."
"Not a bad idea" Kripa chimed in and everyone turned their attention to Heer.
"Fine.. lets do it then.. I'll call and check if they're available..." She went to her room to get her mobile. Prem followed her.
Once they're inside, "Sorry I thought it would be better to meet them here than at some party" He kissed her on cheek.
"I don't mind, just not sure if the girls are free or not as its such a short notice" She said messaging in her girls group, if they were available for dinner at her place tomorrow.
Before anyone could reply, she texted 'He's here as well' knowing that might bring out the correct response.
"I didn't know you had a girl gang here" Prem questioned her since she never mentioned anyone or saw her talking to them.
"Just 3 of them. 1 married, 1 travelling and the other just reloacted here after moving to US for a while. We shared an apartment during uni days but post that everyone had their own things to do." She told him they met once every 3-4 months if they could all make it.
Her mobile buzzed and she told him, "They're coming."
As she got up to go, he pulled her down again pinning her under him. "I missed you" She whispered into his ear.
"Well, admit it then" He kissed her.
"Prem, we need to make a list for party and go shopping for groceries" She reminded him as she heard a noise in the kitchen.

Kripa helped Heer with snacks, while Prem and Angad sorted out the drinks. Between the 4 of them, they managed to cook the food and got ready to receive the guests. As the bell rang, Heer gave Prem an assuring look and went to answer. She knew it was her friends as she got their message that they were here.
She let them in and they hugged her one by one screaming 'Congratulations!!' noticing the ring on her finger. Prem met them one by one.
"Finally we get to meet you" Prachi said as she settled in. I was sure she met someone when she left early during Sue's reception.
"Where's Neel?" Heer asked.
"Running late as usual, busy with his office cricket club matches. He'll be here soon." Prachi replied. Heer introduced them to Kripa and Angad as well. They seemed to recognise her and started appreciating her articles.
"Its just me then... I'm so sorry Kripa... I hardly pick up any magazines.." Heer apologised for her lack of awareness.
"Don't embarass me Heer..." It didn't bother Kripa. Leaving the girls with Kripa, Heer went to join Prem who let his friends in.
xxx
"Heer" Kripa called as they had to refill the snacks that were now running out.
"Ah thank you" Heer hugged Kripa once they were in kitchen.
Prem's friends teased him so much for being the one always escaping marriage to falling in love and grilled them so much. It was only 3 of them including Angad and one looked familiar but she didn't get a chance to talk as they continued their fight with Prem. They were also filling her with anecdotes of how many hearts Prem broke along the way and how much wrath Heer would have to endure.
"They're crazy but then also Prem is the baby of the group so you would extra madness." Kripa sympathised with her.
Heer heard the door bell ring and she went to answer the door. It was Neel. She welcomed him in and tried to look for Prachi.
Prem escaped his friends hinting about the door bell. He found Heer with Neel, who looked familiar.
Heer introduced them and both had this look where they seem to recall if they knew each other.
"Do you guys know each other?" Heer felt weird and tried to break the ice.
"St.Stephens" They said at once and hugged each other.
Neel told her they were friends till year 7 and then Neel's parents moved to UK. They couldn't stay in touch after that.
"I didn't think we'll meet like this. Angad will be happy to see you" Prem took him inside to meet Angad.
Heer went to catch up with the girls and informed them about Prem & Neel's childhood friendship.
As dinner was served, Heer saw Prem being proper host and spending time with each of her friends and smiled.
"You look proper smitten and so you should be" Anjali joined her.
"Anjali stop teasing me... Between how are you?" Heer knew her friend was always busy with work or travel.
"Fine.. planning to go home for sometime... take a break" She replied.
"Really?" It was Heer's turn to be surprised.
"Heer, that's going to happen only in our dreams." Ishita joined them.
"And what brings you back? I thought you went to get married.” Anjali questioned Ishita.
"He was a jerk. I don't know how some guys are still so stuck up in their ways. Work but come home by 5 as if they're doing a favour on us. I called it off.." She was happy to be free.
Heer and Anjali hugged her.
"It’s been so long since we met. I miss those uni days. Lets do a weekend trip before Heer gets married..." Prachi suggested. As they were busy planning destinations, Heer didn't know whether to tell them she already was. She left the group to get some food as they were busy discussing options.
She served herself a plate and was ready to leave when Prem dropped by kissing her cheek and walking away with the plate, thanking her.
"Prem" She called out but he left by then.
"Its nice to see him so happy" She heard someone next to her say. It was one of Prem's friends.
"Hi I'm Kunal." He introduced himself.
"We met earlier, didn't we?" Heer tried to recollect.
"Yes at one of Preet's parties. Preet used to hang out with us sometimes when we were in college and reached out when he first moved here" He reminded her.
As they chatted, she took a new plate and filled it up. She introduced him to her friends as she found out he worked at the same firm as Ishita's.
xxx
"Are you trying to set them up?" Prem stood next to her sliding his hand across her waist pulling her closer while she was busy eating from the plate.
"Ah stop scaring me and set up who?” She wasn’t sure what he was implying. She looked in the direction he was pointing and it seemed like there was only Kunal and Ishita talking while the rest moved away.
“No thanks... I’ll leave that to our siblings. They work for the same firm so I thought it would be nice for Ishita to know a friendly face.” She clarified.
“Hmm let’s see.” Prem rolled his eyes.
“Between where’s Sanjana? Isn’t she your friend?” Heer was focused on eating from her plate but he could sense the difference in her tone. He decided to play along.
“Thought I’d spare you today as you’d have to meet her at the reception anyway tomorrow” He winked and left.
Although she was annoyed at his response, she knew he was messing with her. Her eyes followed him as he laughed with his friends. When she first met him, he seemed reserved quite in contrast to what he is when she got to know him better. She had this unknown fear that things wouldn’t work out yet they crossed the boundary from ignoring each other to being married. She’s madly in love with him but it was him who made the choices to make it happen. It was as if he read her mind, he acknowledged with a captivating smile that melted her. A loud bang broke their gaze.
It was Kripa, who was trying to gather everyone for some games. As everyone was settling down, Heer whispered a quick “I love you” into Prem’s ear before vanishing to join the girls.
He wasn’t certain of what happened but the grin on her face made him believe it did.
Not sure where I'm headed with this but lets see... Sorry to disappear but its work, life and a toddler keeping me busy.. Thanks for all your patience!! 😃
