WHAT?!!??! Like seriously...WHAT?!?!
Shoot me in the head why don't you?
(Okay dear...I know this is just a what if post and you're entitled to your opinion...now let me give you mine 😉)
I can't even begin to imagine my dear sweet Preetu paired up with anyone but my cutie pie Meher.
I never liked the fact that a Preet and Ash angle was even shown in Kis Desh. I mean all this time she was his AB (Ash Bhabi) and suddenly he starts liking her. Ugh!
And like the others have said, Ash was never good to begin with. She knew Heer and Meher's true identities and concealed them and was in with her mother all the way in torturing them.
Remember how she made poor Meher clean her sandals, and how she purposely dirtied the floor after Meher had just mopped up there, and she accused her of stealing when she lost G3's kangan...and how can I ever forget that slap?
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Ash was so much like her mother. She only became "good" temporarily for Preet's sake. But like Priya said...even then she didn't tell anyone who Heer and Meher were. And let's not forget she was the cause of Premeer separation, the false rape accusation, the this is your kid drama...and her going to jail led Daljeet to set the ball rolling for the drama that led to Preet's death.
Preet was fiercely loyal to his family especially Prem. I can only think that Ashlesha's selfish nature and her meddlesome mother prodding her to side with her on one sneaky plot after another would have eventually driven Preet to divorce her. On a lighter note...Preet was a total foodie...Did you see Ash's "attempt" at making samosas...My Preetu would have had to tie a rock to his stomach...and I'm sure the smaller rocks would have wound up in his soup.
As for Meher and Herman (I shudder at the very thought )
Herman...what can I say about him?
Nothing much...except that he was almost as selfish as Ashlesha. He only thought of his own happiness, and walked out on his family when they needed him most.
He asked Meher to pretend to be engaged with him until Maya could be introduced to the family. WHAT?!?! Okay Meher should never have said yes...but like really...what kind of a jerk does that to a girl? And then after Maya left him to die in the snow, he realizes that Meher is the better girl, and tells her that he wants to marry her for real now, but he still abandons her on the mandap!! Like...really?!? I'm glad he got stuck with Maya...he deserved nothing more.
And did you notice how Meher became so serious and boring when she was around him? This was totally opposite to her fun loving, bubbly nature...The way she was with Heer and her parents. The way she could freely be with Preet
Meher was the kind of person who would eventually make anyone happy...but as an onscreen couple Meher and the selfish toothpick would have been the most boring one on the planet.
Now if you look at Preet and Meher...I love them so much...I'm gushing just thinking about them...like, can I gush?...

Okay so now that that is out of the way...
Preet and Meher were so similar to each other in their love and loyalty for their older siblings (Premeer) and their families, as well as their honest yet fun loving nature...that cupid would have been an idiot not to have put them together.
In fact, every time I rewatch Kis Desh...I always think...yup! That's one thing the writers of Kis Desh got right
I mean, after Prem's alleged death, Preet was so guilt ridden, and after Herman left Meher at the mandap, that boy really pulled himself up from his boot straps and matured by leaps and bounds.
And Meher, she agreed to marry him when he had nothing... I mean, zip, zero, nada. I'm sure if Ash had found out the Juneja family was bankrupt, her "love" for Preet would have vanished. Yet Meher stood by him reassuring him every step of the way. Preet could never have asked for a better wife...and he said so himself before he died.
But let me not get depressed here because the best thing about Meet was that they were so so so fun to watch together! Okay I'm gushing again

But aside from their fun moments...it was so wonderful to see them grow and see their friendship blossom into true love.
So yeah...whatever happens happens for the best. The fact that Preet and Meher happened was my favorite part of Kis Desh (I'm sure you can tell)
And Meet will rule my heart for ever.
