chap - 13
'no its not true, we are friends.....but something is wrong
i actually didnt care even if nobody wished me but him, i
couldn't take, it....so what may bcoz we have been frinds
since 10 to 11 years, but i had been friend with shreya
too fro 10 to 11 yrs only a day less...no ways.....but i cant
see him sad.....ye kya soch rahi hun main, it is not
possible, may be i am attracted towards him, oh no, i m
confused.......we always are together, so i was not feeling
gud when he went away in morning, my heartbeat
stopped when i heard he got accident, it was for a few
seconds but then too, and when i got hurt all i thought
of seeing him first, and then ......so if this is love then i
am in love with him'
'yes i love him' she said almost in whisper, then she went
to her bed to slept, in the cool moonlit atmosphere, under
the stars and the ever so comforting night breeze that
came in through the window of her room .
that night made up her mind that all these feeling she
had for him was love....., but still she couldn't be sure of
her feelings.
whenever she would question herself , that why out of all
she only wanted to be with him, though she had met
shreya and kunal the very next day she had met prem?
why was she so restlesswhen he wasn't around even for
a minute even though it didnt upset much when shreya
had to go and live in patiala for three years? why was
waiting for him so special , and his being even a second
late so tensed, even though it didnt matter much if
shreya was an hour late? why was all this going on with
her?
she always got confused for these questions because,
she herself would answer to such questions by saying
that aal this was because of his habit of helping her, he
would jump up from anywhere, anytime to help her,
defend her, or to console her, all because he had cared
for him like none other, and at the end all this was due to
his FRIENDSHIP.....and in the last 11years there hadn't
been a single moment when he had left her alone, and on
the worst day of her life, he had been there to support
her, hold her and comfort her. he had been there to give
her a shoulder to cry and whole night she had done the
same too...
the day her mother had divorced her baba was the worst
day of her life, not because of this that her mother was
leaving her forever but because with her mother her two
beloved brothers would also leave. she had never been
much attached to her mother, but had always tried to
break th ice that was between them but nothing had
actually worked right, in the end all she got was wrath of
her mother, her scoldings, curses, etc. by the time she
was 12 years old she had given up trying too.
she could never understand why her mother had been so
cold to her, though she would treat her brothers so
lovingly. heer hadtried asking her baba too but he had no
answer for these questions of her's and would always tell
her not to think much about this because he loved her
alot. she had even given up asking her baba too, but
could never understand the reason and it would always
disturb and upset her.
she had found solace within his friendship, in PREM's
friendship, in the beginning he had been ignorant to this
matter as he had always stayed in his mother's love and
had adviced her to ignore it and mend her ways may be
she was srong, because for him every mother was as his
own, though his was the best, but the day he had
visualised it in front of him, it was when he had gone to
heer's house to invite her to his b'day party,her mother
had said a big NO directly on his face and had looked at
heer with a killing look and asked her to go and wash
clothes, very very coldly, and this had boiled his blood to
1000 degree Celsius, he had wanted to go and teach the
lady a few lessons on manners and politness but he
could do nothing. he had become so upset that he had
actually cancelled his birthday party himself. when his
mother had questioned him for the reason he had said he
wasnt feeling well, but his father had been very
uninterested in any of such conversations.
prem and heer had only this thing in common that one of
each's parents were cold and ignorant, but in prem's
situation his father was always out of city for his business
but for heer , she had to bear it everyday and that day
when he had seen her crying for her brothers, he had felt
so helpless, he had truly wished that if he could do
anything for her. all he could do and he did was sit
beside her, keep his arm around hershoulders and let her
cry and wash all her pain. he wanted to tell her to stop
crying coz her tears killed him but she has to get off her
pain so that she can start up with a new life.
the moment she had felt him, all she did was bury her
face in his chest and cried very hard, all night she had
done the same and now even after three long years of
the dreadful night of her life, he still had not left a
moment to make her smile, he and his mother were a
great support to her, and this support had given her
strength to stand for herself and her baba, too.
and now their life had become simpler too. both she and
her baba had voids in life, but they had filled them with
the happy moments of their life, but still a few could
never be filled, but life has to go on. time had healed the
wound much not completely but it was enough to live
peacefully.
On one side heer was worlds most confused person to
recognise her feelings and on the other hand prem was
the least confused one on this topic, he had known his
feelings ever since he had learnt the word LOVE ....
her hair dark against her skin , long and black, upto her
waist, her eyes brown and almond shaped, her pink lips,
and the way they curled whenever she smiled first one
end curved than the other had always left him amazed
and fall for her again and again.
she was the perfect person for him he had known this like
forever, initially he had also been confused that why he
even after being the most cool tempered person on earth
would become a so lethal, he could actually kill anyone if
she even got a scratch, why was he always running to
help her, why whenever she cried he felt weight on his
heart and found himself so helpless. but the instant he
had heard about love, he understood he was in love with
her and his first best friend had been always a great
support for him to understand the meaning, and he was
none other than heer's baba. prem had a very special
bond with heer but the best relationship he shared with
anyone was with his balraj uncle, he had played several
roles for prem, he had always told prem to do what his
heart said as his mother told him, he had guided prem to
distinguish between right and wrong and always
supported him as a father, which prem had always
acknowledged in him as he had been deprived of such
feelings from his father, prem had always shared
everything with heer , about how he had spent his day,
what he done, played, pranks he had played on other,
how he had helped somone, how he had felt after that,
what he felt for others, but he could never express his
feelings for her in front of her, he was always scared of
this that if she said no, he wouldnt be able to live, or if
was too early, he should wait and know her feelings, so
he shared all his feelings about heer with her baba, it had
been very easy for him to be frank with him coz heer's
baba was man of eternal patience, even after knowing
that the boy sitting in front of him was talking of a girl
none other than his daughter, his heer, he had never
taken it wrong, he had always respected their relation it
was the purest form of friendship for him, and it was
called love, he had actually made prem realise his love in
a indirect way but it was done by him, and he trusted
prem the most out of all in this world for his daughter.
similar bond was shared by heer and prem's mother too,
after heer's b'day heer had gone to her maa, which called
prem's mother after her insistence, and told her the
query, first she was a bit hesitant but then she had
blurted out everything she had expected maa to give her
a tight slap and an advice to use her brain this much in
studies, but had got a peck and a line, that had moved
her heart and had given her full confidence to know the
name to know her feelings
"HEER AUR PREM TO EK HI HAI...EK HI HAI HEER AUR PREM....HEER PREM KA PRATEEK HAI....AUR PREM SAB SE ZYADA HEER MEY SAMAYA HAI..."
both had recognised their feelings but none had the
strength to go and tell each other and the fear of loosing
each other had always weakened them, so they decided
to keep these things to themselves only.
their relationship was friendship only to show each other
but everone knew it was more than that, and now with
their age these rumors had reached prem's dad's ears
too...
he had never liked maan's at all, they were not of his
levels, his standards, even after living next door mr.
maan and mr. juneja never got along well, balraj had tried
much but busy life of lalit juneja and his ego had never
made the things work, and this was the only reason he
had no friends...
and the day he had got to know about friendship of prem with the maan girl he had decided to make her move away from his son
when he had returned back after his tour, he had once got a moment to talk to mr. maan
'hello, mr.maan'
'hello, juneja sahab, kaise hain aap bohut waqt ho gaya
hai aapko dekhe?'
'haan main bohut busy jo rahta hoon mera kaam mujhe
waqt nahin deta ki main ghar par jyada rahoon aur yahan
ka dhyan rakhun,..aur aur apne bacho ko unki had yaad
dilaun but mujhe kabhi jarurat bhi nahin padti, agar kisi
aur ko ye baat yaad rehti'
'main kuchh samjha nahin, aap kya kehna chahte hain?'
'mr. maan aapko samajh nahin aa raha ya aap samajhna
nahin chahte'
' ji ? aap kya kehna chahte hain?'
'oh to aapko samajh nahi aaraha, par jitna mujhe samajh
aa raha hai aap apni beti ka shi istmaal kar rahe hain'
'kya kehna chahte hain aap?'
'yehi ki agar tumko lagta hai ki agar tum mere bete ko
apni beti ke jaal mein phasa kar paise ainth sakoge to
tum galat ho, main aisa kabhi hone nahin dunga, balraj
agar mujhe tumhari beti dobara mere bete ke saath dikhi
to main use nahi chodunga'
'jaanta hai lalit, tu bohut badal gaya hai, ek waqt tha jab
hum dost the, saath padte the, par phir tu bhi apne pita ki
tarah hi kathor ho gaya,pehle dosti todi, phir sab
rishte aur ab tu bhi unhi ki tarah apne bete ki dil baat
nahin samjhta, tujhe uski aankhon mein pyaar nahin
dikhta , intezaar nahin dikhta, aur woh bhi tere liye, jab
tujhe uska pyaar tere kiye nahin dikhta to heer aur prem
ka rishta to tu kabhi samajh hi nahin sakta, ek din tere
bauji ne tera dil toda tha aur aaj tu bhi wahi karna chahta
hai apne bete ke saath, par main tera saath kabhi nahin
dunga'
and saying this he went back home, lalit said nothing but
these words didnt affect his decision even a bit, he
turned to his house and went in their he heard his wife
and heer talking in kitchen-
'waah meri bahu to sach mein bohut hi achha khana
banati hai, ab mujhe koi chita nahin prem ki, tum uska
achhe se khayal rakhogi'
and heer blushed
seeing this his blood boiled, all were trying their best to
ruin prem's life by tying this girl to prem, she had done
some sort of magic on everyone, prem, his wife and
these days ashlesha had also been talking about her
heer didi, he has to do something and that too
early.....before it gets too late....
and next day at school
'khud ko samahta kya hai tu, haan mere aur heer ke
baare mein kuchh bhi bolega aur main sunta rahunga
haan, tujhe to main nahin chodunga'
heer came in class and heard prem yelling at someone,
she came in and saw prem beating someone and holdin
another by his coller
she decided to go in and solve the matter
'bohut hua ab ladna band karo 'she shouted on top of her
voice and this astonished everyone
'kya hua? kyun lad rahe ho?'
prem said nothing, she saw his eyes and knew he was
angry very angry and wont answer
'koi bataega please?'
shreya came in and told that, when prem entered class
these boys were making fun their relationship, and these
were the ones who had spread rumors of them having an
affair
'bakwas!'said heer and then contd.
'tumhara dimag kharab ho gaya hai, tum kabhi do doston
ko shanti se nahin rehne de sakte, you people are worst,
and so low in your thinking, hum sirf aur sirf achhe dost
hain, main kabhi kabhi bhi apni jindagi mein prem ke
bare mein aisa nahin soch sakti, its you who cant under
stand, hum sirf dost hain SIRF DOST, UNDERSTAND!!!
agar kabhi kabhi bhi kisi ne mera naam prem ke saath
joda to main uski complaint kar dungi, kya tumhara
kuchh ja raha hai agar main aur prem dost ban kar
rahein, haan, it would be better if you would mind ur own
business, and stop digging my personnel life, main aur
prem kabhi bhi dost se jyada, na the, na hain aur na hi
kabhi honge, get that, you better get that' she said all this
in a very rude cold tone but a very just tone, which made
everyone believe that they were only friends and it would
be better if they didnt mees with her, but this not only
made everyone believe it but also prem.....
