Meher got out of the bed and went downstairs. She remembered she didnt even have her breakfast and she also had to talk with Maa about last night.
Meher was making tea for herself when Maa entered the kitchen.
Maa: Meher beta, ab tabyat kaisi hai?
Meher (confused): Tabyat?
Maa: Haan Preet bata raha tha teri tabyat theek nahi isliye rest ker rahi thiMeher realized Preet must have given an excuse for her absence during breakfast.
Meher: Maa, main theek hun ab. Woh..mujhe app se kuch baat kerni thiMaa: haan mujhe bhi. magar pehle tu chai bana hum dono k liye phir baatain kerte hain. Maa smiled while Meher poured the tea in the cups. Both of them went to the dining table and sat down.
Meher: Maa woh..kal raat jo party main hua us k liye sorry. Mujhe pata nahi tha Harman ayega aur aise karega. Meri wajah se app sab ko kitni sharmindigi hui.
Maa: Meher, jo hua woh teri ghalti nahi thi. Kal main bhi ghussa ker gayi thi. Halaat aise ho gaye the mere kuch samajh nahi aaya. Jab tu is ghar main aayi thi to maine kaha tha na tu meri beti hai. Agar teri jagah Kulraaj hoti to main usay bhi aisa daanti magar baad main galay bhi lagati. Saying this, Maa hugged Meher. Meher was relieved and happy to know Maa really considered Meher her daughter. Meher smiled as she realized the unfortunate event resulted in something good. It brought out everyone's feelings.
Maa: Meher, Preet ka khayal rakhna.
Meher: Ji Maa
Maa: Main aur Kulraaj grocery ker k aa rahay hai thodi dair main. Tu ja aaram ker.
Meher: Maa main bhi chalti hun
Maa: Aray nahi Meher. Tu aaram ker!Maa and Kulraaj left for grocery while Meher went to her room and did some cleaning. She was getting bored so she decided to call Preet. She wanted to know if she hurt Preet in the morning.
Preet was doing some work when he received Meher's call.
Meher: Hi Preet. Kaise ho?
Preet: Hi Meher. Main theek. Tum?
Meher: theek
Preet: Kya hua?
Meher(nervous): kuch nahi'woh ghar kab tak aaogay?
Preet: shaam tak. Kuch kaam tha?
Meher: Nahi..bas aise hi
Preet: hmm...Meher mujhe kaam hai to main rakhta hun phone..bye
Meher: byeMeher hung up the phone confusingly. She felt Preet was ignoring her on the phone. He was not his usual self. She disregarded the thought and concluded maybe Preet was really busy.
Preet put his cell phone away. He looked at Meher's photo on his desk. She was looking so beautiful. He was missing her in the office. He wanted to bring her to the office but he knew he wud b distracted and Meher wud feel uncomfortable too after yesterday's incident.
Preet's eyes fell on Meher's lips in the photo. He sank in his chair and closed his eyes. He remembered their kiss last night. Meher's soft lips were soft like rose petals. Their embrace was filled with passion. He wanted to hug her again and kiss her and...Preet opened his eyes and told himself to control his feelings. Whatever happened last night was wrong. Meher didnt like it. She just needed support. He was her support, not her love. Although it wud b harder to his distance from Meher now, he had to stay away from her and control his feelings.
Preet continued doing his work. Well, tried.
Later in the night...
Meher came out of the washroom and put her clothes away. She was surprised not to find Preet on the bed. It was time to sleep but he was still not in the room. Meher knew something was wrong with Preet. He had been acting weird since morning. He ignored her call, he didnt talk during dinner, and now he was not in the room. Although she had decided to stay away from him, his odd behaviour was unknowingly making her feel confused and sad. Preet always made her happy but now she was making him feel sad. She knew she hurt him in the morning. He was right to b angry with her.
Meher waited a bit more for Preet and then went to Preet's study room with a glass of warm milk. Meher entered the room and stood beside Preet, who was busy doing something on his laptop.
Meher: Preet, tumhe sona nahi hai?
Preet: haan thoda kaam kerlun
Meher: Itni raat ho gayi hai. Kal kerlaina kaam.
Preet: tum soo jao Meher. Main thodi dair main soo jaonga.
Preet faintly smiled at Meher. Meher smiled bak and left the room.
Meher kept tossing and turning in her bed. It was hard to sleep without Preet. She didnt know when this became a habit. However, after a while, she fell asleep.
Meher woke up as the sun rays hit her face. She rubbed her eyes and looked beside her. Her eyes shot open as she didnt find Preet sleeping beside her. She quickly got out of the bed and checked the washroom. He was not there either. The washroom was dry so he didnt take a shower and didnt go to office yet. Meher then went to the study room to check if he was still working.
Meher entered the study and saw Preet sleeping on the couch. She went closer to him to wake him up. She called his name.
Meher: Preet, utho. Subah ho gayi....Preet
Preet: hmm...
Meher saw a photo frame in Preet's hand and pulled it out. She was surprised to see the wedding photo frame from her night table. She didnt know when and why Preet had it with him.
Preet got up when he realized Meher was there and she had the frame.
Preet: woh...mujhe office k liye late ho raha hai'Saying this, Preet left the room, leaving Meher behind.
Meher looked at the frame and a tear rolled down her cheek. She realized Preet was avoiding her. He didnt even come to their room last night. Her heart ached to know that she hurt Preet and now he was keeping distance from her.
