It's nice to see comfort level betw Meher Preet , it's mostly discussion than the usual taunt.

A progress at least on Meher's part for the relationship.

I guess they need to go on a date or may be few dates to clear the air betw them. But Meher doesn't think much of Preet except for his talent. Now that they talk a bit she is beginning it find out more about Preet.

You sprung a surprise there Prem, a thief nowredeemed himself. Sounds interesting.

Until today I didn't realize he was in this story.

Dialogues are amazing. I can't even belv ppl talk like this.😆 Kiss a cobra 😲 Omg. I guess it shows how annoyed Meher is to use such strong words.

I kind of understand Meher: why she is reluctant, afraid, her fears.

Preet I still hv now clue. He irritates me, when he irritates Meher. I'm always wondering, why can't he have a friendly approach, instead of threatening Meher, this is not cool.

Thanks Rhea. The painting scenes I hv. no clue or idea about. I'm actually learning stuff from your story. It's nice to know something new.

"Nearly finished"

Meher signed the last letter and added to the pile on her desk and turned to smile at Sameer , who stood by the window.

"There that's done. Now we can go for the lunch. Oh damn", she exclaimed as the phone buzzed.

It was her secretary, Jay.

"There is Mr.Juneja here to see you", he informed her...

Preet. Just what was he doing here. Meher prayed that the spasm of nervous tension that twisted in her stomach did not show up on her face as she returned an apologetic glance to Sameer.

"It must be something related to the painting"

"Not at all", the response came from the doorway. Preet obviously not having bothered to wait to be invited in."I just wanted to see where you worked"

"I don't recall asking Jay to send you in"

"No", Preet agreed."But I know you'd wanna see me.that you wouldn't want ME to wait. Morning Mr.Khandelwal", he added, his casual and belated acknowledgement of Sameer's presence a calculated insult...

"Well I can't talk to you now".Unease at I knew you'd wanna see me' stiffened Meher's tone so that it sounded hard and brittle. What if Sameer took it to mean there was something more to Meher and Preet apart from their meetings for the painting.

"As a matter of fact we were just on our way out for lunch"

"Oh well the I'll"

"I can spare a few minutes Meher", Sameer put in a rather too hastily, obviously realizing , as Meher had that Preet was about to declare his intention of joining them in the restaurant.

"I thought you would ", Preet murmured , the dark irony lacing his tone revealing too clearly that he knew what they were thinking.

"Then why don't you sit Mr. Juneja"

Dressed in a superbly tailored black suit , Preet was fair too impressive a figure for comfort. Perhaps sitting down at her level he wouldn't have so much impact on her already frayed nerves.

"I thought we had agreed it would be Preet", a challenging glance was directed at Meher.

She had been completely wrong in her belief that he would appear somehow less imposing once he was sitiing down. Even without his height, the strength and power of his lean body and his dark brown eyes , hit her.

"Well, now that you have seen our office what do you think", Sameer's voice interrupted her thoughts.

"I'm impressed", Preet surprised Meher by saying..."It's a larger enterprise than I had imagined and the shops are well designed too and the containers are very elegant. Each with a different design and style"

"Well that's my philosophy. I believe that once something is used by someone, it loses its charm and is not fit to be used by anyone else. We have the initials of the person engraved on the bottle as well. So that they cannot pass it on. So either one has to use or throw it. "

"That is quite a philosophy I must say. It tells a lot about the kind of person you are Mr. Khandelwal", he said deliberately throwing a glance towards Meher.

"I am sure it does. But what are we in front of you Mr .Juneja...You must be owning a fortune. This painting talent surely must be fetching you quite a sum."

"Yea it does...But Painting is my passion and I do not paint for money"

At that moment there was another buzz from the telephone and Jay announced that there was a call for Sameer.

"I'll take that from Jay's office", he said hastily heading out of the room...

"Impressive company you keep these days Meher Mann", Preet murmured and Meher hastily gulped her annoyance at the way Sameer abandoned her .

"Sameer is a very kind man", she said stiffly, feeling uncomfortable at being with him alone.

"Kind .Is that all you have to say...I thought you wanted to marry the man and tell me Meher are you kind to him as too"

The sardonic intonation of the word kind made Meher flare up ...

"That is none of your business"

"It is if I chose to make it so", the warning note in his voice sent a shiver down her spine..."Though I have to admit that I did not know what you see in him. Tell me Meher, what is it the attraction in a cold fish of a human cash- register whose vision is completely blurred except when it comes to money"

"I couldn't expect you to understand it", Meher's declaration had more force than perhaps was necessary-"But believe me he's got a lot more appeal than-", her voice failed as she saw his face change, the flames of anger that flared his eyes.

"Than someone like me someone-who's not a gentleman"

Meher flinched inside at the bite of acid in Preet's voice, but then suddenly, unexpectedly, his tone altered, softening.

"Tell me Meher Mann. This blindness to reality- this refusal to see the truth, accept the world as it really is outside this cushioned existence that your partner suffers from- does it apply to his relationship with you"

"I don't know what do you mean!"

"Oh, but you do...why else are you so determined to play a part- pretend to be someone you're not. Can't poor Sameer take the fact that you've lived-that you had a life before you met him...What does he want from you- A wife or a pretty picture to hang on his wall"

"You have no right to talk like this!!"

Meher wanted to give Preet her a piece of her mind but the fact that Sameer was just a room away made her control herself.

"And now if you'll excuse me Sameer and I have a lunch appointment. Goodbye Mr. Juneja", saying so she left.

"I'll accept for both of us, shall I"

"Not on your life!. I am not going to that fiasco"

"But he's your friend"

"Was my friend", Sameer corrected coldly. "If he's a fool enough to marry that girl then he's not not the man I thought he was"

One word he had used about Vikram caught her attention and hung onto her thoughts. 'Fool' he had said. 'Fool enough to marry her'. She realized that all that mattered to Sameer was his dignity , his pride , his so called ego in front of his friends. And he would never forgive someone who would in any way malign it...
