Chapter 28

After hours of traveling in the plane, the family stepped out of it minutes after it had landed. They walked out and found their luggage. Then, they went through the immigration check. As they walked out, three cars were waiting for them since prem has already arranged for them. As she walked out of the airport, heer looked out to see a new and different world of her's. The sun was at the horizon beginning to set for the evening. She saw the tall buildings with implausible exteriors and glass windows. It was really different from India that she knew from looking at her surrounding. Then, prem guided her to one of the cars and opened the door for her as she took a seat. He closed the closed and went to check if the luggage for all in the trunk. Then he took the seat next to her with preet accompanying them in the front. In one of the others cars, lalit and gaytri were with meher followed by kiran, Kulraj, and the kids in the last car. As they traveled, prem showed her the different places that he promised to take her after his meeting work with Mr. Johnson was done. Preet too joined in and showed her a few things here and there. Finally, they turned into a driveway which led to a huge palace like house. As soon as the cars stopped in the driveway, two of the servants came and started to take in the luggage inside. Everyone got out and was about to walk in when gayatri stopped them, "ek minute tum log yehi ruko," she said and went in to get something. A few minutes later, she walked back with the pooja ki thaali. She did their aarti and then welcomed them in. [note: the house is the same as the one shown in the show when the family was in Canada] they went in and decided that they will freshen up until dinner was ready. Prem lead heer to her new room which was on the 1^st floor. Prem took out a creamish kurta pajama and went to change. Then heer too changed into a simple pink saree. Everyone else changed into something simple and comfortable. Then they came back down to the dining room. Preet complained to gayatri, "maa…jaaldi karona…mujhe bahut bhook lagi hain." "bas…khana aahi raaha hain," she said and Dorothy walked in with the food. All the family members ate the food with haste as they were all really hungry and also tired. Later, they all returned to their rooms to unpack or to rest. Kulraj put tannu and vishaal to bed in their rooms and went to her room too.

Heer was unpacking the suitcases when prem walked in talking on the phone. She placed her stuff on the bed and waited for prem. as he hung up the phone, she called him, "suniye." He turned around to face her and said, "ha…bolo?" "woh….main mere kapde kaha rakho?" she asked him innocently. Prem smiled at her and replied, "tum woh cupboard use karsakthi ho," he said as he pointed towards one of the two cupboards placed in the room. "thank you," she said and went to place her things in the cupboard. She opened the cupboard and was surprised to see that it was empty. She turned to see him on the bed with his laptop and asked confusedly, "yeh toh khali hain?" "ha…kyunki yeh aaj subhe hi yaha aaya hain," he said calmly. "matlab?" she asked. "matlab..maine iss cupboard koh order kiya tha teen dino phele…thaaki tume tumari cheeze rakhne koh jaaga mile…woh mere cupboard hamesha messy rehe tha hain…issliye," he confessed as he ran his hands through his hair. She smiled at him and thought that was so nice of him and went to get her stuff. Then she started to arrange her things in the cupboard for the next hour or so. Next, she went to open his suitcases so she can unpack his things too. Prem who was on his laptop looked up at her and asked, "yeh…tum kya karahi ho?" she got scared. Did she do something wrong? She was just going to help him, she thought. "woh premji….mujhe neend nahi aarahi hain toh maine soocha keh aap keh suitcases bhi unpack kardo," she hesitantly replied. "aree dar kyun rahi ho…main toh issliye keh raha tha keh tum takgayi hogi…tum aaram karlo," he said trying to calm her down. "nahi premji…its ok…main kar dehthi ho," she said smilingly. "theek hain…par tum mujhe premji kyun bolathi ho?" he asked. "jee?" she asked puzzled. "phir jee…dekho…main chatha hoon keh tum mujhe prem bulao…main tumse sirf teen saal badha ho…itna bhi bhooda nahi keh tum mujhe premji bulao," he stated as he chuckled a bit. "par...main kaise," heer replied shyly. "par…var kuch nahi…tum mujhe prem bulao gi," he ordered. "theek hai…prem.," she said and smiled at him. Prem too was happy and smiled back at him. The next hour or so, heer unpacked everything, whereas prem was finishing up his work for tomorrow's meeting with Mr. Johnson. Later, they both fell asleep tired from the plane ride.

The next morning heer was the first one awake in the whole family. She did not want to wake up prem as it was still early so she decided that she will go do the morning pooja first. So, she did the pooja and saw that gayatri and lalit were awake. So she gave them the prasad first and then went upstairs to give prasad to prem as he had a meeting today. But, prem was still asleep. She placed the thaali on the night table and woke him up, "prem…prem…utho…tume meeting peh jaana hain," she informed him. "bas…paach minute aur please," prem whined like a kid. She smiled remembering how kids at the ashram did the same when they wanted to sleep a few minutes more…he was nothing less than a kid, she thought. she woke him up again, "prem…saath baach chuke hain…tum late hojaoge," she said again. prem sat up startled, "kya…saath bach gaye…oh my god I am late, " he said as he grabbed his towel and ran inside the bathroom. Heer decided that she will take his clothes out for him since he was already late. She opened his closet and was shocked to see that it was a mess. Things were thrown anywhere. All the clothes were just thrown into it, not folded or anything. She shook her head, may be he was telling the truth when he was talking about his cupboard being a mess, she thought. After minutes of searching, she found a black suit and a light blue shirt to go with it. She placed it on the bed and went downstairs to get breakfast for him. Downstairs, lalit, gayatri, kiran, and Kulraj were up but the rest of them were still sleeping. Heer went to the kitchen and started to prepare prem's breakfast.

Upstairs, prem came out of the bathroom to see that his clothes were already ready. He smiled knowing that heer should have done it. So he put on his shirt and was fixing his hair, when heer walked in with his breakfast. Gayatri had told her that prem took simple stuff like cereal, fruits, and juice in the morning before he left for work. "yeh kya hain?" he asked her. "woh…tum late horahe the na…issliye maine breakfast yahi laaliya," she told him. "thanks," he said as he smiled at her. he was buttoning up his shirt as heer was placing his breakfast on the table. "god…isse bhi aabhi hona tha," prem shrieked. Heer looked up at him, "kya hua…sabh theek toh haina?" she asked concerned. "sorry…woh yeh button," he said as he stood with a broken button in hand. "bas issliye…main seedo?" she asked. "par main late…" he said worried. "bas doh minute mein main kardongi," she said. "main aabhi aayi," she said and went to find Kulraj so she can get the needle and thread. A few minutes later, she returned with the stitching box supplies and saw that he was still waiting for her. She took the needle and thread and moved in closer to him so she can sew the button back on the shirt. He looked down to see her keen on her work….she looked gorgeous in that green saree adorned along with the mangalsutra and sindoor….she was his angel, he thought and smiled. She had a problem to every solution…his life has somehow changed the moment she had entered it. She was done with her job and looked up to find two pair of chocolate brown eyes staring at her. She looked in them to see a special glint of happiness shining in them….there was something different in his eyes but she couldn't tell what it represented. "ehmm…ehmm," someone coughed. They both turned around to see gayatri standing at the door. Heer moved away shyly and went to put the needle and thread away in the box. Gayatri walked up to prem and teased him, "teri button thodne ki aadat aabhi tak nahi gaye na?" "maa…," he replied. "aaj ke meeting kiliye all the best," she said as she patted his cheek. He bent down to touch his feet and took his ashirwaad. She blessed him and said, "chal jaldi se naash tha karle," and left. Heer just stood there smilingly at the scene in front of her. Prem ate his breakfast and said bye to heer and was about to leave when she stopped him. "yeh prasad," she said as she offered him the thaali. "thanks," he said as he ate the prasad. "All the best…mujhe pura yaakeh hain keh yeh contract tume hi milega," she said smilingly. "thanks again…bye," he responded and left the room. Downstairs, everyone also wished prem good luck for his meeting.

After prem left, gayatri took heer around the house and showed her the house and introduced her to all the servants. She told her what happened in the house and how it happened etc. by then it was lunch time and the family had lunch together. Sometime after lunch, prem called her to let her know that the meeting will be long and that he might be late. It was really late, but prem still hasn't arrived. Gayatri was waiting along with heer for prem. then heer told gayatri that she should go rest since it was really late. "maa…aap jayee na…main prem ka intezaar karlongi," she told her mother-in-law. "nahi beta…tum subhe bhi jaaldi uthgayi thi…tum tak gayi hogi jaake sojao…mujhe toh aadat hain aise raat tak jaagne ki," she said concerned that heer was not used to the habit of sleeping late and that it might spoil her health. "nahi maa…main bilkul theek ho…aap mujhe aapni beti maanti haina…toh please maa mere liye…aap jaake aaram karlijiye," heer said affectionately. "aacha baba…aabh main kaise maana karsakthi ho…beti ne hokum diya hain," she said jokingly as she patted her cheek. Then she left. Heer waited for another hour or so, but there was no sign of prem. so, she decided she will wait in her room and read a book to pass time.

It was one when he walked in the house. His happiness had no bounds…he had finally won the contract that he had been working on for so many months. But there was no one to share his happiness right now…even his mom wasn't there today waiting for him. Then he ran up the stairs, but slowed down as he reached his room because he didn't want to disturb his wife…he was sure she would be sound asleep by now. He slowly opened the door but was surprised to see her waiting for him. Hearing the door creek open, heer looked up from her book and stood up, "tum aagaye?" she asked smilingly. A smile crept up his face. He ran up to her and hugged her. "tum sahi thi heer…mujhe woh contract milgaya…aaj main bahut khush hoon," prem chattered on while heer stood there shocked. This was the first time she was so close to him….she seemed to fit perfectly in his arms….like they were made only for her. Slowly, she calmed down and hugged him back sharing his happiness with him and smiled.
