"Dood lelo, dool lelo!" came the screeches from the street. It was early morning, nevertheless, the city was busteling, ready to face the day, a day full of new oppurtunities. Of course, if that's what the city was up too, how could the Juneja's be left behind? Prem and Heer Juneja were off with their parents shopping for various events coming up leaving Kuldi and Kiran to once again argue over who left the TV on last night and who last changed their kids underpants. Meher Juneja, stood in the kitchen, the door open, letting in a cool breeze, allowing her hair to dance behind her. Little did she know that her every move was being watched with a great deal of admiration.
Preet leaned his frame against the door, watching his wife idly stare out of the window. Her lips were turned in the smallest of smiles as she gazed out into nothingness, twirling a chunk of hair 'round and 'round her finger dreaming, completley oblivious to her surrondings. Smiling cheekily, his hands stuffed in his pockets he swaggered over so he was right behind her. Lowering his head to her ear, he whispered coyly;
"Meri bare mein sooch ri ho naa?"
Meher jumped a mile, upheaving a plate of cut vegetables. Swearing under her breath, she turned to see the chuckling figure of her husband, who was desperatly trying not to fall over laughing. She tried narrowing her eyes, trying to emit anger but failed miserably. It was a known fact in the area, staying mad at Preet Juneja was next to impossiable.
"Preet! Kya kare ho?"
Raising his eyebrows, Preet decided to comment instead on something else. "So Meher, I never knew my innocent wife had such a colorful and diverse vocabulary. Is this what they teach in the schools of India?"
Matching his cheeky smile, Meher patted his cheek and replied, "Funny. What are you doing here? I thought you were going to take Tannu out?"
"Oh wow, you're so much more trusting then any of my other girlfriends. You don't mind if I go out with another woman? With Tannu? What if she falls for my irresistable charm? My winning smile? My twinkiling eyes? My fab-"
Meher cut him off. "In this case, I'm not that worried. Tannu is smart. She will not fall for you. Trust me. The only one that would, and unfortunartly has is me. Get over it Preet."
"Ouch."
The banter continued back and forth, mischievous remarks flying as fast as their tounges could move. So engrossed both were in their flirting, none noticed the small, petite figure enter the door from outside. Dressed in white and green, she slowly slunk to the back counter, hoping not to interupt the young couple. But Ravjot had no such luck.
"Ravz!" The welcome was evident in Meher's voice. "Kaise ho? Aur Tommy? Sab theek thak hai naa?"
"Jee." meekily replied the frightened soul. Usually Ravjot would have sprung like a high wire cut loose but in the presence of Preet Juneja, the one she had admired from afar, hoping to catch a glimpse of, she had lost all ability of speech.
Not noticing her discomfort, Preet flashed a quick smile in her direction, eager to get back to flirting. But Meher had no such intention. Teasingly, she asked Ravjot;
"So?? What day is it today??" she asked Meher in a sing-song voice.
Bewildered, Ravjot stared back at her, hoping with all her might, Meher wouldn't, wouldn't dare mention it in front of Pre-.
"Monday?"
Rolling her eyes, Meher said; "Nice try Ravz, I'm not going to forget that easily! Happy Birthday jaan!" she squeeled, rushing over to hug Ravjot, who, in surprise dropped all of her jugs. Hurriadly, she started wiping at the clean floors, hoping to hid her burning cheeks. Seizing the oppurtunity, Preet whispered to Meher;
"Who is she again?"
Meher gave Preet a look of annoynce and sternly hissed under her breath so Ravz couldn't hear;
"Preet! Hamari doodwali hai! Ravjot!"
A lightbulb went off in his head, and he smiled, embrassed at Meher, who rolled her eyes. Meanwhile, Ravz had picked up her stuff from the ground and set the daily quota of the Juneja's milk on the counter. With a small smile to Meher, she turned to go when she was stopped by a voice that sent shivers down her back.
"Ravz?"
Beet red, she turned to Preet smiling cautionsaly at her, with Meher smiling encouraginly at him.
"Happy Birthday."
"Urm - erm ... " she stuttered. "You are welcome."
Preet's eyebrows crinkled. "Huh?"
Cursing herslef inside she muttered out, "I - I mean, thanks."
Smiling again at her, Preet wrapped his hand around Meher's waist and led her out of the kitchen, both waving back at Meher. Alone in the kitchen Ravjot tried to calm her breathing wondering, how the hell she was going to stop herself blushing now.
